The Ronettes consisted of Veronica "Ronnie" Bennett, her older sister Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley, but on this particular recording Ronnie was the only member to perform. The "Wall of Sound" was a technique developed by Spector which utilized orchestral instruments, such as strings, woodwinds and brass, giving the recording a fuller and richer sound. Many of the musicians who played on the song were members of "The Wrecking Crew", a group of session players who appeared on thousands of studio recordings during the '60s and early '70s.
