'Supernatural'- Season 8 Trivia Questions

1. Which actor played a character who was an ally of the elder Winchester brother while he was in Purgatory?

From Quiz
"Supernatural" Name that Actor or Actress Season 8

Answer: Ty Olsson

Ty Olsson played Benny, a vampire who formed an alliance with Dean in Purgatory. Shown in flashbacks starting with "We Need to Talk About Kevin", the vampire helped Dean survive and led him to the way out, in exchange for Dean carrying his soul back to earth. Once back on earth, though, Benny had difficulty fitting in, shown in "Blood Brother" and "Citizen Fang". In "Taxi Driver", the vampire allowed Dean to kill him in order to return to Purgatory and lead Sam out the same way he led Dean out. However, Benny ended up staying behind after leading Sam to the door.

2. In "Pac-Man Fever", how did Dean find himself in 1951?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 20 through 23

Answer: He was in Charlie's dream

After Charlie was poisoned by the djinn, the brothers could not bring her back. To save her life, Dean took dream root and entered her dream to help her come back before the poison killed her. This was the third time the brothers used dream root. They used it in "Dream a Little Dream of Me" to enter Bobby's dream and save him. Sam then used it to enter Dean's dream and stop the killer in the same episode.

3. In "Man's Best Friend With Benefits", what were the Winchester brothers hunting?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 15 through 19

Answer: A witch

The brothers were called to St. Louis by the familiar of an old friend, James, who had become a witch. He was afraid he was killing people. It turned out that another witch, Spencer, was killing people, and framing James for the murders.

4. Who killed Samandriel during "Torn and Frayed"?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 10 through 14

Answer: Castiel

Castiel, Sam and Dean rescued the angel from Crowley and Viggo, who were totruring the angel. Naomi directed Castiel to rescue Samandriel, but made him think it was his own idea. Then, once Castiel had gotten the angel out, she directed him to kill the angel. Castiel did so. He also followed her instructions to tell the Winchesters that Samandriel was compromised and he had killed him in self defense. Sam and Dean knew something was wrong, though.

5. What creature did Sam and Dean hunt in "Southern Comfort"?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 6 through 9

Answer: A spectre

The brothers hunted a spectre. Spectres are avenging ghosts that possess people, ramp up their resentments and anger to rage, and get them to kill the objects of that rage. The ectoplasm from the spectre was green, rather than the black ectoplasm the brothers were used to seeing from ghosts. The spectre was attached to a penny that the unknown confederate soldier had been wearing, and it possessed a woman, her son, two police deputies, and Dean, before Garth picked up the penny and melted it down.

6. What song was playing while Dean walked through the Louisiana woods in "We Need to Talk about Kevin"?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 1 through 5

Answer: "Man in the Wilderness" by Styx

"Man in the Wilderness" played while Dean walked through the woods and dug up the bones. He then cut his arm and allowed the glowing ooze imprisoned there to dribble over the bones as he recited an incantation. This resulted in Benny appearing behind him. Dean had provided the "soul train" he and Benny had discussed, since the door out of Purgatory that Benny knew about was only open to humans, not vampires.

7. What happened that caused Dean to tell Sam, "That's why we don't have nice things, Sam" in "Pac-Man Fever"?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 20 through 23

Answer: Sam failed to catch the beer Dean threw to him

Suffering from the effects of the trials, Sam slept a whole day. Entering the library of the bunker with serious "bed head," his brother teased him saying, "give me five minutes with some clippers." He then tossed Sam a beer, but Sam was unable to catch it, and it smashed when it hit the floor. Clearly worried about his brother, Dean tried to make a joke of it, saying, "That's why we don't have nice things, Sam."

8. Who said, "Burn a confederate soldier's bones in a town full of rednecks? Sure!" in a very sarcastic manner?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 6 through 9

Answer: Sam

Sam said this in "Southern Comfort" after the brothers and Garth realized that the body in the tomb of the unknown confederate soldier was the source of the spectre they were hunting in Missouri. The brothers and Garth were able to burn the bones without incident, though.

9. Finish this quote by Dean: "The rules are simple, Sam. You don't take a joint from a guy named Don, and there's no ______ in the car."

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 1 through 5

Answer: dogs & dog

Dean said this to Sam in "We Need to Talk about Kevin". When Dean first got into the Impala, he said he smelled dog, and Sam denied it. Later, when Dean asked how he had met Amelia, Sam said he had hit a dog and Dean realized he had been right, and responded with this gem.

10. Which actor played the father of John Winchester?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Name that Actor or Actress Season 8

Answer: Gil McKinney

Gil McKinney played Henry Winchester, John's father and Sam and Dean's grandfather. Henry was a Man of Letters, a secret society of scholars that recorded information about evil and how to stop it. The Winchesters were part of these elite scholars, and the brothers' maternal family, the Campbells, were elite hunters. The brothers discovered all this when Henry appeared in their hotel room through a time portal, looking for their father in "As Time Goes By". After he died, they also realized this was why John never knew about this legacy, but thought his biological father had abandoned him. Not knowing about the Men of Letters, John had become a hunter after hs wife was killed. Sam told his brother he understood why the angels had worked to get their parents together - combining the brains and the brawn, so their children would be elite in both skills.

11. In "Pac-Man Fever", what research source led the Winchesters to determine that they were hunting a djinn?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 20 through 23

Answer: John's journal

The information about the different strain of djinn was in John Winchester's journal. This djinn fed on people that were frightened. The poison from this strain of djinn would send the victim into a nightmare state, rather than the dream state Dean experienced in "What Is and What Should Never Be," and would liquefy the victim's insides, killing them. In researching the blue handprint that was on the victim, Sam went through MOL books, Charlie used her app, and Dean searched John's journal. Dean found the answer first, in his father's journal.

12. In "Man's Best Friend With Benefits", Spencer got into the Winchesters' minds and called up painful memories. What was NOT one of those memories?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 15 through 19

Answer: John's death

Dean saw his mother burned on the ceiling and his torture in Hell. Sam saw his fall into Lucifer's cage in Hell, and his torture there. After this reminder of what they had been through at the hands of demons, Dean told his brother that he knew they had to stick together and he would support him taking on the trials to close the Gates of Hell.

13. What was the name of Garth's boat?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 10 through 14

Answer: Fizzles' Folly

Dean and Castiel went to Garth's boat to speak to Kevin during "Torn and Frayed". "Fizzles' Folly" was clearly visible on the boat. This was not the first time "Fizzles" was associated with Garth. In "Party On, Garth", Garth used a sock puppet to speak to a traumatized child. Much to Dean's exasperation, he called the puppet "Mr. Fizzles".

14. Who killed the tooth fairy?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 6 through 9

Answer: Garth

In "Southern Comfort", Garth told the Winchesters that he was a dentist until he killed the tooth fairy and became a hunter. This was also the episode where the brothers found out that Garth had taken over Bobby's duties.

15. When Sam and Dean tracked down Kevin after a year, he asked what happened to them. Dean responded, "Cliff notes: I went to Purgatory, Sam ______."

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 1 through 5

Answer: hit a dog

It was revealed in "We Need to talk about Kevin" that Kevin had left messages on Sam's phone asking for help for six months. Sam never responded, since he had ditched his phones. Dean, still angry that Sam quit hunting and did not appear to have tried to find him, responded to Kevin with this succinct explanation.

16. One character performed the trials to close the gates of Hell. Who played that character?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Name that Actor or Actress Season 8

Answer: Jared Padalecki

Jared Padalecki played Sam Winchester. While his brother Dean wanted to take on the trials, it was Sam that performed the first one while saving his brother from a hellhound in "Trial and Error" and therefore needed to complete the others. While performing the trials, Sam became very ill, but told his brother the trials were purifying him. As a baby, Sam had been fed demon blood by Azazel. Since he spent months during the trials coughing up blood, many fans speculated that the "purifying" Sam referred to was a purging of the demon blood from his body. He did not complete the final trial, since Dean discovered it would kill his brother, so stopped him just in time. However, Sam remained very ill as the season ended in "Sacrifice".

17. In "The Great Escapist", how did Kevin determine that the Sam and Dean he was dealing with were imposters?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 20 through 23

Answer: Sam and Dean were too polite

Crowley scrubbed Kevin's mind and put him on a "set" exactly like Garth's boat, and then had two demons play the parts of Sam and Dean, in an effort to get Kevin's half of the demon tablet and to have Kevin decipher his half. While Kevin sprayed the "Winchesters" with his water guns, it had no effect since Crowley replaced the holy water with regular water. However, Kevin began to get suspicious when the brothers did not use the secret knock. Then, as Crowley pointed out, fake Sam was talking like Dean. Kevin then tested them by asking them to bring him several kinds of food from town. When the brothers did so, even though there were still burritos in the refrigerator, he knew it could not be them. When he told Crowley how he had figured it out, Crowley asked, "My demons were too polite?" Kevin confirmed that it was the thing that convinced him that they could not be the real Sam and Dean.

18. In "Remember the Titans", what was NOT a way Shane died?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 15 through 19

Answer: shot by a robber

At the beginning of the episode, Shane was killed when he was hit by a truck. Later, the sheriff's office discovered a newspaper article saying he was killed by a bear. After Sam and Dean found him, he had a heart attack and died in front of them. Shane, or Prometheus, as he turned out to be, died every day from a curse put on him by Zeus.

19. What FBI aliases did Sam and Dean use when introducing themselves in "LARP and the Real Girl"?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 10 through 14

Answer: Taggert and Rosewood

The brothers introduced themselves as agents Taggert and Rosewood. While they often used rock music icons for their aliases, this time they used the names of the two officers from "Beverly Hills Cop", a movie starring Eddie Murphy, released in 1984. This episode also marked the first time that they were caught with fake FBI badges. After showing the badges to a LARPer, the player pointed out that the ID numbers should have had ten digits with two letters mixed in, and that the seals were from the previous month. The brothers quietly pocketed the badges. LARP stood for Live Action Role Play. This was the third time the brothers encountered the term. The first time was during "The Monster at the End of this Book" when they were mistaken for LARPers. The second time was during "The Real Ghostbusters", when the "Supernatural" convention participants were all LARPing, pretending to be Sam and Dean.

20. Upon seeing Linda Tran through binoculars, who said, "Tiger Mom, nine o'clock."?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 1 through 5

Answer: Sam

Sam said this during "What's Up, Tiger Mommy?". Kevin insisted on checking on his mother and once the Winchesters and Kevin got to her home, they found her surrounded by demons. While the title of the episode had the term "tiger mommy," Sam was actually the only character that made reference to the term during the episode. A tiger mom is a strict mother who pushes her children hard to ensure they excel in school. Linda turned out to be a strong, resourceful woman generally, in addition to her maternal commitment to her son.

21. Which actor or actress played an angel that controlled other angels, probing their minds for information and forcing them to follow orders without them realizing what had happened?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Name that Actor or Actress Season 8

Answer: Amanda Tapping

Amanda Tapping played Naomi. She controlled Castiel's actions and thoughts for much of season 8, forcing him to lie to the Winchesters and kill Samandriel after the Winchesters rescued the angel in "Torn and Frayed". She also tried to brainwash Castiel to kill Dean, but when Castiel was about to do so, Dean was able to reach him by reminding him all that they had been through and that they were family. Castiel then started remembering Naomi and told Dean what she had done. He then touched the angel tablet, which broke his connection to Naomi completely. In "Sacrifice", Naomi told Dean that the final trial would kill Sam, and told Castiel she would listen if he wanted to return to heaven. However, she was killed by Metatron shortly thereafter.

22. Sam referred to the hotel manager in "The Great Escapist" as "Dr. Scowly Scowl," and said he was "like a villain from ______" what?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 20 through 23

Answer: Scooby Doo

When Dean said he was going to check out the Two Rivers Tribal Museum and Trading Post, Sam said he was going to follow the hotel manager. Dean suggested he rest instead. Sam did so for a bit, but then followed the manager, and saw him leaving books for someone. This led the brothers to find the scribe of God.

23. Sam asked, "What do we know of that has Jason Bourne fighting skills, dies a lot, and has a history of violent women?" Who did Dean say that described?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 15 through 19

Answer: Sam

In "Remember the Titans", Dean sarcastically responded to Sam, "I don't know. You?" Sam does fit the bill, since he has excellent fighting/hunting skills, has died at least five times that we know of (stabbed by Jake in "All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1", electrocuted in "Wishful Thinking", impaled by Anna in "The Song Remains the Same", shot by hunters in "The Dark Side of the Moon", and falling into Lucifer's cage in "Swan Song"), and has the history with Madison, Ruby, and Amy. Of course, Dean could have just as easily named himself, since he has the same fighting/hunting skills, died all those times in "Mystery Spot", in addition to dying in "In My Time of Dying", "No Rest for the Wicked", "Dark Side of the Moon", and "Survival of the Fittest", and he had the hook up with Lydia, the amazon, producing the amazon spawn that tried to kill him.

24. What did Charlie call Dean when the two encountered Boltar during "LARP and the Real Girl"?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 10 through 14

Answer: My handmaiden

Charlie panicked and called Dean her handmaiden. Boltar the Furious, otherwise known as Gerry, continued to refer to Dean as a handmaiden later in the episode when he and Dean searched for the missing Charlie. Gerry turned out to be the killer, having used magic to capture a fairy and force her to kill for him.

25. Linda Tran hired Delta to help make a demon bomb in "A Little Slice of Kevin". How did she meet Delta?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 6 through 9

Answer: She found her on Craigslist

Linda Tran found the witch on Craigslist. She enlisted Delta to find the ingredients for the demon bomb. Her dealings with the witch led to a funny exchange. When Delta asked for the recipe, Linda responded, "You know the rules. Casual encounters. That means no questions asked." Kevin stepped in to correct his mother, letting her know that was from "another part of Craigslist."

26. In "What's Up, Tiger Mommy?" who tried to auction off the word of God?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 1 through 5

Answer: Plutus

Plutus, the God of Greed, included the tablet containing the word of God, in his auction. When the God's employee Beau told the brothers that he worked for the God Plutus, Dean responded, "Is that even a planet anymore?". Beau was not amused, but he did invite Kevin, his mother, and the Winchesters to the auction. Beau was dressed in a perfectly tailored pinstriped suit and hat, and carried a cane. Viewers may have been trying to figure out who he reminded them of - until Dean threw out a parting shot of, "Thank you, Mr. Peanut."

27. Name the actor who posed as a Texas Ranger, and assisted in stopping a spectre attached to a cursed coin?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Name that Actor or Actress Season 8

Answer: DJ Qualls

DJ Qualls played Garth, a rather unconventional hunter who was a friend and ally of the Winchesters. Garth protected Kevin on his houseboat, checked in on people at the request of the Winchesters, and kept track of the hunter network that Bobby had handled before his death. Garth worked with the Winchesters in "Southern Comfort", assisting them in finding the penny and stopping the spectre, while also trying to help the brothers get past their issues.

28. The brothers encountered the scribe of God in "The Great Escapist". What was the name of the scribe?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 20 through 23

Answer: Metatron

In "The Great Escapist", the brothers tracked down Metatron after Sam remembered the symbol he used on the tablet from a Native American art class. Metatron explained that he had hidden out from the angels for so long, just reading books. Sam and Dean told him what had happened, and after hearing about Kevin, Metatron saved Kevin from Crowley just as Crowley was killing the young prophet.

29. Who killed Zeus in "Remember the Titans"?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 15 through 19

Answer: Prometheus

Artemis shot an arrow that kills immortals at Zeus, but Zeus blocked the arrow by pulling Prometheus in front of him so the arrow went into Prometheus. Then, after Zeus told Prometheus that he was going to put his son on the mountain to be tortured, Prometheus forced the arrow through himself and into Zeus, killing them both.

30. Who was Henry Winchester?

From Quiz "Supernatural" Season 8 Episodes 10 through 14

Answer: John Winchester's father

Henry Winchester was John's father. He time travelled from 1958 to 2013, appearing in Sam and Dean's hotel room, in "As Time Goes By". He was followed through time by Abaddon, a demon from Hell.
