The "Starsky and Hutch" pilot originally aired on ABC on April 30, 1975. The pilot was actually shown about five months before the first episode which aired on ABC on September 10 of the same year. In the pilot, the part of Captain Dobey was played by Richard Ward who was replaced by Bernie Hamilton for the next episode.

They wanted to draw attention to the poor living conditions in their old people's home. The car was stolen by thugs, who conducted armed robberies of liquor stores. Starsky and Hutch not only had to catch the robbers, but they had to find them before the car exploded. Suzanne Somers guest starred in this episode.
