The reason that the secondary power source was to be activated, was so that Barney Calhoun could return to Earth, as well as allow the teleporter machine to transport things to chosen locations, as opposed to random geographical areas. After activating the machine, several creatures show up to slow down Calhoun's progress. Instead of wasting his time, he escapes through a portal, back to Earth.

13. In "Half-Life", what professor of Gordon's also works at Black Mesa?

From Quiz Half Life: Opposing Force

Answer: Black-Ops

The Black-Ops are the most deadly human character you meet in the game. They are highly accurate with any of their weapons and can take a lot of damage. There are two categories of Black-Ops soldiers that threaten the well-being of the facility. The first is the male Black-Ops agents that carry carbine weapons and sniper rifles. In close range, they use martial arts and are very deadly. The female Black-Ops agents are very stealthy, speedy, and carry silenced pistols. In one part of the game, Adrian Shephard is trapped by the Black-Ops with heavy-weapons man, a medic, and another soldier at his side. All of the soldiers but the heavy weapons man die in that particular encounter. The heavy weapons man gets killed in the underground train station by the Black-Ops soon afterwards leaving Shephard on his own again.

15. After the main character has been beamed back to Earth, a problem occurred with the teleportation device. What was this problem?

From Quiz Half-Life: Blue Shift

Answer: The battery had been depleted

To get new batteries, Calhoun had to take a service elevator down to the basement. There he encountered several alien creatures, as well as several military men. 17. After the teleporter had been fixed, the main character was forced to push some buttons to get it to work. Which button did he not press?

From Quiz Half-Life: Blue Shift

Answer: Off

The procedure that Dr. Rosenberg gave Barney Calhoun first involved turning on the machine with the 'on' button. An unforeseen malfunction in the coolant unit forced Calhoun to turn the 'Coolant Control' switch, so the temperature would not cause a meltdown. After that was taken care of, Barney Calhoun was forced to turn on the energy, and allow the transportation process to begin. He never had to press the 'off' button, because once he left, the room detonated, and the teleporter was destroyed along with it.

From Quiz Half Life: Opposing Force

Answer: Gene Worm

The creature resembles a worm-like creature with many tentacles with a protrusion similar in both shape and position to that of the green tentacles seen throughout Xen. The way to destroy it in the game is to use the two laser guns, to blind it. Of course, care has to be given to avoid its acid attack. Once it is blinded, the purpose is to shoot the creatures inner crystal which spawns Race-X creatures. Once that is done, the creature will die.
