How many dungeons are located in the same place in both the first and second quest?

From Quiz "Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2"

The (NES) Legend of Zelda Trivia Questions

1. How many dungeons does the entire game feature?

From Quiz
Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2

Answer: Eighteen

"The Legend of Zelda" features the most dungeons of any "Zelda" title: a staggering eighteen. The game comprises two individual quests with nine dungeons each.

2. Who is the main character you control in "The Legend of Zelda"?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: Link

"The Legend of Zelda" introduces us to the principals of the series: Zelda, Ganon, Impa, Link, and the Triforce. Although Impa features heavily in the backstory of both "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" and "The Legend of Zelda", she does not appear in the game. Miyamoto chose the name Link, because he wanted to link the player into the fantasy world Hyrule.

3. What is guarding the Map in the first labyrinth?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: Keese and Traps

This has got to be the easiest map to get in any "Zelda" game and, it seems like even for the first labyrinth, it would be harder. I guess the difficulty might come in with the area of the room if you don't have the ladder. The room has a water row. The room becomes much less maneuverable with the traps and the flitting Keese. Then again, the map is in plain view so getting it becomes a hit and run operation.

4. In the very beginning of the game, when you enter the cave on the opening screen, an old man says, "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this." What is he referring to?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" - NES version

Answer: Wooden sword

It is the first of three swords you can obtain in the game. The second is the White Sword, and the last is the Magical Sword.

5. How many dungeons are located in the same place in both the first and second quest?

From Quiz Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2

Answer: One

There is only one dungeon that is located in same place in both the first and second quest, and that is the first dungeon located on the island in the middle of Lake Hylia. The second quest, other than having the same enemies and boss battles, completely changes the locations of all major dungeons and items.

6. How many quests are present in "The Legend of Zelda"?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: Two

One of the game's most famous features is the presence of the second quest. Once you defeat Gannon, a whole second quest opens. Though the actual geography of the overworld map is largely the same, having only minor differences, all item and almost all dungeon locations are shifted and the dungeons themselves are entirely different. Miyamoto and his team developed "Super Mario Bros." and "The Legend of Zelda" at the same time. Both titles feature a "second quest", though "Super Mario Bros." unfortunately does not feature changed levels but instead just replaces enemies. "Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels", to me, always felt like a second quest, like "The Legend of Zelda".

7. Follow my directions from the starting point of the game: North, West, West, North, West, North, North. Where are you?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: In the grid with the second labyrinth

One of the changes in the overworld is the grid that held the Blue Ring Shop in the First Quest of "The Legend of Zelda". It's now the area where the second labyrinth is located. It is also usually my first stop. There's a very utile item there.

8. How many rupees does the blue ring cost?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" - NES version

Answer: 250

It is well worth it because when you are wearing the blue ring, your vulnerability decreases by 1/2. Also you turn light blue while using it.

9. In one of the dungeons in the first quest, there is a famous glitch. At the dungeon entrance, you face a locked door. Exit the dungeon and then immediately re-enter, and the locked door is open. What's the dungeon?

From Quiz Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2

Answer: First Dungeon

This is one of the more famous glitches in the series. Another glitch can occur when you purchase the Blue Ring. Exit and renter the store with the rupees are still being depleted, and more often that not the overworld music will continue to play. Another glitch involves the Goriya who you have to give bait too in order to pass. As the Goriya disappears, open up the menu screen, press Up and A, select "Continue", and you will restart the dungeon with the Hungry Goriya gone and your bait still intact.

10. In the first labyrinth, you obtain the wooden boomerang and the bow. In order to obtain the boomerang you must defeat several creatures that already possess their own boomerangs. What are these creatures called?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" - NES version

Answer: Goriyas

The ones in level one are orange and require three hits with the wooden sword to defeat. Later, you meet blue ones that are tougher to defeat.

11. What Triforce are you seeking in "The Legend of Zelda"?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: Triforce of Wisdom

An important point to remember in the story of "The Legend of Zelda" is that it is not Gannon who hid the Triforce fragments in the game but rather Princess Zelda. It is important to remember this because logically that means the all the dungeon enemies and bosses are NOT servants of Gannon. Zelda broke the Triforce of Wisdom into eight fragments and hit them in secret dungeons throughout the land in order to prevent Gannon from having both the Triforce of Power, which he already had, and the Triforce of Wisdom. If the dungeon enemies were servants of Gannon, they could simply unite the Triforce of Wisdom and present it to Gannon. It is only after Link has reunited the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom is he "wise" and experienced enough to face Gannon, the ultimate king of evil. He's quite an attractive pig monster too.

12. What is the mini-boss of the third labyrinth?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: There isn't one

This is the smallest of the labyrinths in "The Legend of Zelda's" second quest. It's so small, it doesn't need a mini-boss; at least it doesn't have one. I guess you could probably say that the Orange Goriya are sort of a semi-mini-boss. Shaped like an "'L", and it's one of only two labyrinths where the labyrinth item is not downstairs.

13. Skipping ahead a bit to level 3, what happens if you strike a Zol with the wooden sword?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" - NES version

Answer: Zol breaks into two Gels

The Zol is a jelly-like creature first found in level 3. When you strike it with the White Sword it dies instantly and it may reward you with rupees or other items. If you strike it with the Wooden Sword, it splits into two Gels which are little chocolate chip-like items. Ropes are the snaky enemies in level 2, Keese are the bat-like enemies, and Darknuts are the red and blue warriors with swords and shields that protect their front sides.

14. The same development team, headed by Shigeru Miyamoto, was designing and producing two separate titles at the same time during 1985. The first game was "The Legend of Zelda" What was the second game?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: Super Mario Bros.

"Super Mario Bros." and "The Legend of Zelda" were made in conjunction with each other. Miyamoto decided that all the linear designs would go to Mario, and all the open ended gameplay would go to Link. "Super Mario Bros." came out in 1985, and "The Legend of Zelda" came out in February 1986 for the Famicom Disk System. "The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" came out in January 1987 for the Famicom Disk System. Japan had both Zelda titles before the United States even got the first.

15. Hidden in which of the labyrinths is the message, "South Of Arrow Mark Hides A Secret"?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: Labyrinth Six

The game's Overworld is loaded with Armos Statues and rock formations. These make great markers to help you find your way. This message in the sixth labyrinth is hinting at the Magical Sword which you can actually get before you read the message, if you're like me and you love exploring. Just be sure to have the correct amount of Heart Containers when you decide to go.

16. What item must you collect in level 4?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" - NES version

Answer: Stepladder

If you do not collect the ladder, you will not be able to cross any of the rivers that exist in the labyrinths from here on in. Also, the ladder will enable you to get an extra heart container, as well as crossing over the river up in the mountains. This is where level nine is located, so it's pretty important.

17. On the Second Quest, Dungeon Six is located in the graveyard. What item is required to access Dungeon Six?

From Quiz Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2

Answer: Recorder

Link must play the recorder in order to make the grave vanish. The secret item in Dungeon Six is the ladder.

18. Due to a translation mistake, in the NES version the President of Nintendo at the time was listed in the credits as what?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: Executive Producer

There are several errors in the end credits. Shigeru Miyamoto is listed as "S. Miyahon", Takashi Tezuka is "Ten Ten", and Toshihiko Nakago as "T. Nakazoo". It should be noted that in the end credits of "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link", Miyamoto is also listed as "Miyahon". Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo's President during that era, was incorrectly identified as "Executive Producer".

19. What is the boss and mini-boss composition of Labyrinth Seven?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: Four-headed Gleeok, 2 Manhandlas, and Ghoma

This is one of the most intricate labyrinths of the game. It's loaded with those always dangerous Blue Iron Knuckles as well as lots of twists and turns to navigate the labyrinth. Oh yeah! Bring Rupees, you never know when you might have to make a "Life" altering decision.

20. What is the only way to defeat Digdogger?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" - NES version

Answer: Blow the recorder and wait until he shrinks to attack him

Once you blow the recorder, he becomes vulnerable. You can hit him with your sword or shoot arrows at him; it doesn't matter. I prefer not to waste arrows.

21. What dungeon in the first quest contains not one but two special inventory items?

From Quiz Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2

Answer: Dungeon Eight

The Eight Dungeon is hidden under a bush in the eastern woods. It contains both the Book of Magic and the Magical Key. The Book of Magic enables Link to shoot a fire spell. The Magical Key opens any locked door.

22. When you touch any tombstone in the Hyrule Graveyard a Ghini will pop out. Picture the Graveyard. Now tell me, in the upper right sector, and remember we're playing the Second Quest. What is the maximum number of Ghinis that you can kill?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: Ten

In the First Quest of "The Legend of Zelda", there was an item hidden in that sector. In the Second Quest, even though there isn't an item hidden in that sector, there are also no Ghini available if you touch the tombstone that hid the item in the First Quest. Even more, just the opposite is true in the upper left sector. Not only is there an item but there is a Ghini if you touch the tombstone with the item underneath. The catch is, touch the tombstone after you push it open.

23. Nintendo gave each dungeon an official name. What dungeon is the "Demon Labyrinth"?

From Quiz Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2

Answer: Seventh Dungeon

The first dungeon is Eagle Labyrinth. The second dungeon is Moon Labyrinth. The third dungeon is Manji Labyrinth. The fourth dungeon is Snake Labyrinth. The fifth dungeon is Lizard Labyrinth. The sixth dungeon is Dragon Labyrinth. The seventh dungeon is Demon Labyrinth. The eighth dungeon is Lion Labyrinth. The ninth dungeon is Death Mountain Labyrinth. The third dungeon, the Manji Labyrinth, is an inverted swastika.

24. The instruction manual for the NES release stated this enemy hated loud noises but you could not kill by exploiting this weakness. What's the enemy?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: Pols Voice

The instruction booklet for "The Legend of Zelda" had this rather puzzling description of Pols Voice: "A ghost with big ears and a weak point - he hates loud noise." This is a true for the Famicom version of "The Legend of Zelda", because the Famicom included a microphone with the system. By blowing into the microphone, all the Pols Voice on the screen will be killed. As the NES did not have a microphone, this functionality did not cross over in the NES release although they still included it in the instruction manual. In all subsequent titles where Pols Voices were included they are vulnerable to the Recorder.

25. Where in all of Hyrule would you see the following message: "Secret Is in The Tree At the Dead-End"?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: Under an Armos west of Warp Point Three

I used to think this message was about the Blue Ring Shop. However, since that isn't a tree, I must conclude the message points to the very obvious tree with the Money Game inside.

26. What special weapon is required to kill Gannon?

From Quiz Let's Play 22: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 2

Answer: Silver Arrows

To defeat Gannon, you must have both the sword and the Silver Arrows. You find both the Red Ring (a special piece of armor, more powerful than the Blue Ring) and the Silver Arrow in the final dungeon of Death Mountain. According to the game manual: "Link's no match for Gannon and his might. Whatever attack Link uses, Gannon just repels him. But if Link uses the magical sword and some other object, he'll manage to topple the mighty Gannon." This section of the manual alludes to the fact you must have the Silver Arrows, found in Dungeon Nine (the final labyrinth), to bring down "Gannon". Oddly enough, the in-game text and all instances in the manual refer to Ganon as "Gannon". This spelling would be changed in all subsequent titles in the series.

27. Miyamoto named Princess Zelda after what famous writer's wife?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: F. Scott Fitzgerald

Zelda Fitzgerald had a tumultuous marriage with F. Scott Fitzgerald. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, "Zelda was the name of the wife of the famous novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. She was a famous and beautiful woman from all accounts, and I liked the sound of her name. So I took the liberty of using her name for the very first "Zelda" title."

28. The map of "The Legend of Zelda" appears in what subsequent "Zelda" game?

From Quiz Let's Play 21: "The Legend of Zelda" Part 1

Answer: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Directly south of Death Mountain where you get the hammer, a miniature version of the original game's map appears in "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link." The map is quite small and not wholly accurate, but it is quite clear this section of the Overworld is a very clear reference to the first game. This little Easter egg was probably included to give "Zelda II" a sense of scope.

29. The Shop with the Blue Ring has three items. If I bought all of them, how many Rupees would I spend?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" Trivia

Answer: 390

This may seem like a tough question but it's really easy. This has got to be the most memorable shop in Hyrule. It contains the Blue Ring, a Bait Meat, and a Key. It memorable because it has the most expensive item and the cheapest Bait and Key. The Rupees you spend are a pittance as the game is loaded with Rupees.

30. When you defeat Ganon, the door opens and you find yourself in a room with the princess. However, she is guarded by fire which you must destroy in order to save the princess. How many burning balls of fire are in the room?

From Quiz "The Legend of Zelda" - NES version

Answer: Four

You only have to destroy two to save the princess. Just shoot at them with the silver arrow and they will disappear. Then you will be free to stand next to the princess, thus saving her. Good luck on the second quest!
