Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Trivia Questions

1. In the Mining Plaza in Agon Wastes, there's a huge statue of a certain creature carved into one of the pillars, but which creature does this statue represent?

From Quiz
Did You Ever Notice...?

Answer: Amorbis

There's a giant statue of Amorbis carved out of a pillar in Mining Access. If you scan it, the game will tell you that it may have been put on it as a warning to travelers.

2. What odd creatures will the Dark Torvus Boss, Dark Chykka, fire at Samus?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Enemies

Answer: Chyklings

Although this is probably one of the more intense boss battles of the game, many different exclusive scans can be found here including the different forms of Chykka that appear. Chyklings are rather small offspring of Dark Chykka (a large, moth-like creature) that will be sprayed at Samus as a distraction. Luckily, they tend to hold important items like health and ammo, and these can be a great help in the long run. They can be killed with a couple of single shots from the Power Beam...unlike the boss, which requires a combination of tactics and weapons.

3. In which area of Sanctuary Fortress do we need to remember a colour code to advance?

From Quiz Where on (Dark) Aether Are We? Extreme!

Answer: Minigyro Chamber

Although all four of these locations are in relatively close proximity to one another, the Minigyro Chamber requires that we memorize a four-colour combination (Amber, Cobalt, Crimson, Emerald) and morph into a ball to deactivate a large, dangerous, spinning gyroscope in the center of the area. Once all four coloured switches have been bombed, we can make our way through the outdoor area and into the Reactor Core of the fortress which contains some of the larger robots that guard the area.

4. Where are we if we're in Dark Aether for the second time?

From Quiz Where on (Dark) Aether Are We?

Answer: Agon Wastes

Although we will follow our dark doppelganger into the very first dark portal in Hive Chamber B, none of what follows in this first journey into Dark Aether will be playable, and this instance will leave us with a bad taste in our mouths (the Ing aren't friendly). The next time that we look into the 'Dark Aether Situation' is in Agon Wastes, but in order to accomplish this, we must turn into a Morph Ball, traverse the walls of the Agon Wastes Portal Terminal, and activate the portal to the dark world via a large light-focusing apparatus. Upon activating this, we will need to head to the Judgment Pit to collect the Space Jump Boots.

5. What material is easily destroyed by Morph Ball Bombs?

From Quiz Spelling It Out - "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"

Answer: Talloric Alloy

Throughout Aether and Dark Aether, these materials will often be found blocking access paths or expandable units in various different areas. Although these are often scannable with the Scan Visor, Samus will not be able to make any advancements until she obtains the correct weapon necessary for breaking the material open. Talloric Alloy is probably the earliest instance of such, being breakable by the Morph Ball Bomb found early in the game. In the original "Metroid Prime", its counterpart was Sandstone, also breakable by the same weapon. Denzium is broken by Power Bombs while Bendezium is primarily found in the first "Metroid Prime". Once again, it was only broken by the Power Bomb. Phazon is unlikely to be destroyed by any of Samus' weapons. In fact, it's an extremely dangerous substance.

6. The first main boss of the game is the Alpha Splinter. In which area does Samus face off against the Dark Alpha Splinter?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Bosses

Answer: Great Temple

Although prior to this, players will face off against their first Dark Missile Trooper (who, I may add, becomes a hassle rather than a challenge later in the game), the real boss battles don't really begin until Samus faces off against the Alpha Splinter in the main arena of the Great Temple, found an elevator ride above the Temple Grounds. Although Alpha Splinter is considerably easier than other bosses (and some enemies found later in the game), its position shouldn't be taken lightly. After a while, Alpha Splinter will transform into Dark Alpha Splinter (let's give a big hooray for Dark Aether), and you'll need to watch out for both random jumping attacks and laser shots. Regardless, when the battle ceases, the Alpha Splinter will disappear forever and you'll earn the Energy Transfer Module, a requirement necessary for obtaining the light energy from around Aether and returning it to the Temple.

7. Where do you find the Space Jump Boots?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Accessories and Items

Answer: Dark Agon Wastes

The Space Jump Boots are an innovation found in the first "Metroid Prime" game, and while they do transcribe into "Echoes", Samus loses them during her coup with the Ing in Dark Aether (they did leave a bad first impression, didn't they). Samus can regain these only by defeating the Jump Guardian, a boss found in the Judgment Pit in Dark Agon Wastes. Although Samus will normally jump with the B button, pressing B again in the air will result in an additional jump. To defeat the Jump Guardian, simply use your tactics that you would hold for any normal Warrior Ing, stay in the light, and make sure you watch where you move.

8. What is the first weapon that Samus obtains in the course of the game?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Weapons

Answer: Missile Launcher

Although Samus will lose many of her weapons in her first trip to Dark Aether (the crime rates there are subpar, I must say), the Missile Launcher will be the first necessary weapon in order for Samus to navigate both versions of Aether. Missiles will knockout red-covered doorways, and they will be integral in the fusions of numerous beam-missile combos. Although Samus will only begin with five missiles, more will come to expand the total held. Samus does not need to fight any bosses to earn this weapon; she can find it in Temple Grounds East.

9. Where is the Screw Attack located?

From Quiz Metroid Prime 2

Answer: Vault

The Attack Vault is in the Ing Hive and not the Sanctuary Temple where the Screw Attack is located. Watch Station helps you access Screw Attack, while Main Gyro isn't really much.

10. What does the first boss of the game, found in the Great temple, hold before you defeat it?

From Quiz Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Answer: Energy Transfer Module.

The energy Transfer Module is only found in "Metroid Prime 2", and it was built by the Luminoth to battle the Ing, but they have it stolen by them. Samus can use it to gather the missing energy from Dark Aether and return in to Light Aether.

11. What button do you press to activate scan mode?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Scanning Galore

Answer: Left control pad

When you are done scanning, just press the A button to activate the combat visor, or you can press up on the control pad.

12. What region is the planet Aether located in?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"

Answer: Dasha

This is told during the scene before the game. This planet is right now covered in a strange purple aura, which is the darkness of the planet. Once you complete the game, the aura will disappear along with Dark Aether.

13. A two-piece robot tends to appear in Sanctuary Fortress with a head a set of legs. What is the name of the head?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Enemies

Answer: Quad CM

Quad CM and Quad MB make up the unit known as Quad M8, a rather formidable mechanoid creature found in both Sanctuary Fortress and in a dark form in Ing Hive. The special characteristic of this enemy is the fact that its head and body are two separate creatures. The body will use its four legs (hence 'Quad') to swipe and spin at Samus. Samus will need to use the Boost Ball to knock some sense into it and a Bomb or two to finish it off. The head will detach from the body if it isn't killed with concussive blows first, so Samus can deal with this as well. Using laser systems (and a shield if it detaches), Samus will have to avoid its oncoming fire. The boss of Ing Hive's Temple, Quadraxis, is a much larger model of this creature.

14. Where are we if we're fighting the Spider Guardian?

From Quiz Where on (Dark) Aether Are We? Extreme!

Answer: Dynamo Works

The Spider Guardian hides out in the Dynamo Works, a room spectacular merely for the fact that it's comprised entirely of Spider tracks and narrow corridors, forcing us to fight the entire battle in Morph Ball mode. The boss can be beaten with a series of Morph Ball Bombs and energy conduits, but it's the matter of navigating these intricate pathways that makes the battle all the more difficult. As long as we avoid hitting this sub-guardian's seemingly-impenetrable forcefield, the battle should go off without a hitch. Defeating the Spider Guardian will result in our finding of the Spider Ball.

15. Where are we if we're claiming the Super Missiles?

From Quiz Where on (Dark) Aether Are We?

Answer: Temple Grounds

The Super Missiles are a relatively useful upgrade to gain as they will both provide superior firepower and open the green locked doors around Aether and Dark Aether. We need to travel to the Hall of Honored Dead in the Temple Grounds (directly beneath the Great Temple itself) in order to collect this fine item, but before we can, we must use the four spinners in different directions of the room to solve a unique spinning floor puzzle and unlock the protective case in which the weapon rests. In obtaining this weapon, we'll now be able to travel to even more areas!

16. Health comes in packets that are in which shape?

From Quiz Spelling It Out - "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"

Answer: Orbs

Health Orbs come in many sizes and colours throughout the game, and while they'll be extremely common during the journey through Aether and Dark Aether, they'll usually never be thrown by the wayside; they're a precious commodity. A Small Energy Unit will represent 10 energy while other denominations will result in 20, 50, and 100 energy respectively. Energy is upgradable through the course of the game as Samus finds Energy Containers. Each of these will add an additional 100 energy to Samus' total energy. All of these containers are found throughout the game in various places. Often, Samus will need to backtrack or solve intricate puzzles to reach these though.

17. How many Morph Ball Bombs can Samus lay in succession?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Weapons

Answer: Three

The Morph Ball Bomb is the first Morph Ball add-on that Samus obtains during the game. Despite the raid in Dark Aether, Samus does hold onto the ability to morph into the ball form to squeeze and roll through tight spaces. Morph Ball Bomb technology doesn't change from the original "Metroid Prime". Timing the release of the bombs is key in Samus' navigation in Morph Ball areas of Aether. Samus can find the Morph Ball Bomb in Agon Wastes by defeating the Alpha Sandigger (which becomes the Bomb Guardian). Morph Ball Bombs are mighty good at destroying anything composed of Talloric Alloy, so anytime Samus comes across it, it might be to an advantage to cause some demolition.

18. What is the name of the Annihilator Beam's Charge Shot?

From Quiz Metroid Prime 2

Answer: Disruptor

When Quadraxis shoots at you, you may get hit by either the Annihilator Beam basic shot or the Disruptor shot. The difference is that the Disruptor beam locks onto you and you can see it lock on in your HUD.

19. What suit do you start with?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"

Answer: Varia

It is the suit you always start with in every Metroid game. As the story goes, the suit was given to her by the creatures who raised her from a baby, the Chozo.

20. Where could we if we can't claim a Missile Expansion in our current location?

From Quiz Where on (Dark) Aether Are We? Extreme!

Answer: Mining Access (Agon Wastes)

If we're travelling to Torvus Bog for the first time, the Missile Expansion found in the Transport to Agon Wastes is an easy one to get a hold of. Simply shooting a weak point on a certain wall near the elevator and the cliff, the path will open to an easy five Missiles. Portal Access A is a uniquely constructed room in Agon Wastes (behind Mining Station A). If we shoot over to the side nearest the Portal Terminal we can find the Missile Expansion behind the dead soldier's body. The Hydrodynamo Station is a room visited more than once in the undertemple of Torvus Bog, and we can find the Missile Expansion in plain sight here. As long as we raise the first segment from the large, central column, we can reach the platform this Expansion is situated on by jumping on a newly-produced ledge. Although the Mining Access room of Agon Wastes does not contain a Missile Expansion, it does contain an Energy Tank.

21. Where could we not be if we've just found an Ammo Station?

From Quiz Where on (Dark) Aether Are We?

Answer: Temple Grounds

Ammo Stations are much less plentiful than Save Stations in "Metroid Prime 2", so it's always important to refill our ammunition stock before continuing on if we do happen to find them. To refill, much like a Save Station, we just simply need to step into the location indicated. This station will refill Missiles and Power Bombs as well as Dark and Light Beam ammunition, so it does save us the time and effort normally needed. The location in Dark Torvus Bog is adjacent and below Dark Torvus Temple, the location in Ing Hive is connected to the Hive Reactor (it's known as the Ing Cache), and the location in Dark Agon Wastes is next to the Dark Oasis.

22. Which game company developed "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"?

From Quiz Spelling It Out - "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"

Answer: Retro Studios

Although Retro Studios had been slated to finish many different products for the Gamecube, their works continuously got cancelled. It wasn't until Nintendo bought the majority of the company's shares in 2001 that work commenced on the "Metroid Prime" series. Over the course of the company's existence, Retro's claim to fame has been the "Prime" series (including some work on the DS title "Metroid Prime Hunters"). HAL Laboratory is a second-party developer known for working on the "Kirby", "Pokemon", and "Super Smash Bros." franchises, Intelligent Systems worked on the "Fire Emblem" and "Paper Mario" series, and Monolith Soft worked on "Baten Kaitos".

23. How many Amorbis will appear during the boss battle for the Dark Suit?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Bosses

Answer: Three

Returning to Dark Agon Temple for yet another boss battle, you can find Amorbis sporting the latest of Samus' fashions for "Metroid Prime 2". The battle starts with random jumping Amorbises that will try to land on you around the arena. Luckily, these bosses are large enough that you can view their trajectory the moment they leap from the ground. For the second half of the battle, the three Amorbises will attach to a rather large, indestructible ball in the center of the field, and destroying them becomes a matter of firepower and Morph Ball Bombs aimed directly into the digestive system. Defeating all three is the only way to win, and as long as you stay inside the light you won't lose too much of your energy; just pick your moments right. Completing this battle will destroy the 'indestructible' ball (ha ha, take that shoddy Ing craftsmanship) and result in the Dark Suit, which still hurts Samus in Dark Aether, but slows down the rate of damage taken by a tolerable rate.

24. In which area does Samus receive the Dark Suit?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Accessories and Items

Answer: Dark Agon Wastes

The Dark Suit is Samus' prize for defeating the Amorbis monster in the Dark Agon Temple of Dark Agon Wastes (see the similarities?). In order to defeat the Amorbis, a healthy dose of missile shots and Morph Ball Bombs will eventually do the beasts in. The Dark Suit is a wondrous creation in itself. Rather than traverse the Dark Aether locales taking on extreme degenerative damage, Samus will now be able to traverse the Dark Aether locales taking slightly less degenerative damage. It doesn't sound like much, but eventually, those light orbs become few and far between, and certain boss battles are made a bit easier by the notion.

25. The Dark Beam is the first new beam weapon that Samus obtains. Where is it found?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Weapons

Answer: Agon Wastes

The Dark Beam is one of three available beam weapons (outside the Power Beam itself) that Samus will come across through the course of the game. In order to obtain it, Samus will need to cross into the laboratories of the Agon Wastes and fight Dark Samus in the Main Reactor. Following the actual battle (not the last with this character, I assure you), the actual Dark Beam can be found within Storage Room D, located directly adjacent to the battle room. The Dark Beam opens Dark Beam doors which are designated by an odd, purplish, swirling glow. As well, certain enemies across the map will have a certain weakness to the Dark Beam's shots, but it really depends on the situation.

26. What are the three types of AI controlled turrets (i.e. the type which you can't control no matter what)?

From Quiz Metroid Prime 2

Answer: Luminoth, Growler, Humility

Growlers are found in the GFMC Compound areas (belong to the Galactic Federation Marines). Humility's are found in Agon Wastes. The Luminoth turret is found on your way to the Sanctuary Temple elevator. The Vigilance is the turret which you can enter and shoot from (the same thing as the one in the multiplayer level Shooting Gallery).

27. How many things can you possibly scan within the game?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Scanning Galore

Answer: 221

Each item is classified in your logbook between creatures, lore, and research. It is then classified even further beyond that. This is why there are so many items waiting to be scanned.

28. Where is the map station for the Temple Grounds located?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"

Answer: Hive Chamber A

It is one of the first rooms you enter in, after the Landing Site. These will show you all the places you haven't traveled in the area you are in.

29. The word "Ing" is actually a word in the Luminoth's language. What does "Ing" mean in the Luminoth's language?

From Quiz Did You Ever Notice...?

Answer: Terror

Although the Ing certainly are all of these, the reality is that "Ing" in the Luminoth's language is the word for "terror". You can find this out by reading through the Luminoth Lore in your Logbook.

30. Excluding bosses, how many different types of Metroid are found within the game?

From Quiz "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes" Enemies

Answer: Three

Although the common, everyday Tallon Metroid is found in Agon Wastes' Pirate Trooper mines, you can also spot Infant Tallon Metroids coming out of the cocoons in the same area. These Metroids can be killed with repetitive blasts to their tops (Missiles are our friends). On top of these, we can find Dark Tallon Metroids in Dark Aether versions of our favourite Agon Wastes and Temple Ground locations. These Metroids, like their normal counterparts, tend to have a weird affinity for Phazon, so avoiding the stuff is probably good.
