From Quiz "The Moves of "Mortal Kombat""

Mortal Kombat (MK9) Trivia Questions

1. Which character ultimately erupts his opponent's upper body from the inside out with a giant ball of acid?

From Quiz
The Fatalities of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Reptile

Called "Weight Loss," this fatality involves Reptile turning invisible, then quickly slashing his opponent's neck and torso with his claws. He soon reappears with a sickly green acid ball that he plunges into the gash he made in the opponent's stomach, turning around and covering his face as the opponent implodes into a colorful mess of green and red. Stryker also makes his opponent explode but with a different method.

2. Certain moves are universal to all "Mortal Kombat" characters, meaning every character can perform them. What move is always "back + B"?

From Quiz The Moves of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Sweep kick

While every character shares the sweep kick move (which is a low-hitting kick that knocks down a non-blocking opponent), the aesthetic appearance of the move may change based on the character. Such characters like Cyrax and Scorpion literally perform a sweeping kick, while a character like Reptile performs a dropkick to the opponent's ankles. The other three incorrect answers are also all universal moves shared by all characters, but they are performed with different button inputs.

3. In the Krypt you can purchase several concept art, as well as codes, costumes, and more. Only four characters in the game have Shadow Renders available to buy, and view in the Nekropolis. Who is the only female character in this category?

From Quiz Mortal Kombat (2011)

Answer: Mileena

All the female fighters in the game have less concepts than Mileena, as the latter has a Shadow, Reveal, Official, and Alternative renders, both her Fatality codes, and Damage Concepts available for purchase. Kitana, Jade, Sindel, Sheeva, Skarlet and Sonya do not have Shadow nor Reveal renders.

4. In the story mode, there are two characters you unlock as you get further. Who are the two characters you unlock?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Cyber Sub Zero and Quan Chi

You unlock Cyber Sub Zero after you beat him with Kabal in the story mode. You unlock Quan Chi for beating the story mode.

5. How many fatalities need to be specifically executed at fullscreen distance?

From Quiz The Fatalities of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Three

Surprisingly, out of the huge amount of fatalities this game has, only three are required to be inputted at fullscreen. (This means that you must be as far away from your opponent as possible, so that the entire screen is showing.) Jade has one fullscreen fatality, named "Head-A-Rang"; the other two belong to Sektor, named "Robo-Sek" and "The Scarecrow."

6. All the move list combos in the game are given a name. What is the name of Scorpion's "X, X, X" combo?

From Quiz The Moves of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Torment

The Torment combo is one of the simpler and easiest combos to pull off in the game. The move, aesthetically, is a jab to the jaw, an elbow to the shoulder, and a flaming uppercut. It is a 3-hit combo that deals 12% damage. Damnation, Brimstone, and Takeout are other combos or special moves of Scorpion.

7. How many challenges in the 'Challenge Tower' does one get to play as Johnny Cage?

From Quiz Mortal Kombat (2011)

Answer: Twelve

The Tower has a character being played in six challenges in a row before moving to another warrior. Cage has two rows of six, 13-18 and 127-132.

8. In the Challenge Tower, you play as Sheeva in mission 299 and you fight Goro. How do you beat this mission

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Defeat Goro without getting hit

If you get hit with Goro's attacks in this mission, you automatically die in the mission. This is also Sheeva's last mission in the challenge tower.

9. Another mode is Test Your Luck, which is a normal one-on-one fight, with a variety of changes to the battle decided by the reels on a slot machine. What will a reel called 'Lucky!' give you?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Kurrency

If you fill all reels with 'Lucky!', you earn an Achievement/Trophy called 'Luck Be a Lady'. Other examples are 'Floor of Flame', where bursts of fire come out from the floor at random intervals, and 'Zombie Kombat', where the loser will explode when defeated.

10. Which female character actually skins her opponent alive with her bare hands?

From Quiz The Fatalities of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Sheeva

After snapping her knuckles, Sheeva grabs her opponent by the chest and shoulders and focuses all her energy on ripping off every last inch of skin (or metal) from the opponent's body. Fun fact: the skin Sheeva rips off always acts like a flimsy rubber suit in her hands after she's done with her fatality. This is an amusing fatality to perform on characters like Cyrax, Sektor, and Cyber Sub-Zero, as their pure metal exteriors flop around like elastic.

11. How many Koins does defeating Goro, Kintaro, Mileena and Shao Kahn in Challenge #300 give?

From Quiz Mortal Kombat (2011)

Answer: 10000

It does give you a costume, Mileena's Flesh Pits outfit, but it also gives out a grand prize of 10000 for beating the Tower. Other challenges normally give out from 100-1000 koins, whilst Special challenges give out 1000-2000 koins.

12. In the Story Mode, Future Raiden gets into Raiden's mind and says "He must win." Who is he referring to?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Shao Kahn

At first, Raiden thought he had to make sure Liu Kang wins all the Mortal Kombat tournaments. Then, he realized that Shao Kahn was the one that had to face the judgment of the elder gods since he had planned to merge the realms.

13. A Klassic mode from previous "Mortal Kombat" games makes a return to "Mortal Kombat 9". It's known as Test Your...what?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Might

Test Your Might consists of increasing your character's Might to a point where they are able to smash through increasingly harder targets from pine boards to diamond. Test Your Sight makes you watch a "Mortal Kombat" icon as it is hidden amongst a group of containers and switches places. Test Your Strike allows you to increase your Might into a small area within which you can smash the middle object amongst objects set in a square shape. Test Your Speed does not exist.

14. Who is the only character who retains his original fatality from the very first "Mortal Kombat" game (excluding DLC fatalities)?

From Quiz The Fatalities of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Kano

Kano retains a practically perfect replica of his fatality from the original Mortal Kombat--plunging his fist into the opponent's chest to rip out his or her heart. The only minor difference is that Kano turns the opponent around to face away from him. Kano also visibly crushes his opponent's heart in his hand before lifting it above his head. (In the original "Mortal Kombat," it is not discernible if Kano crushes the opponent's heart, although he still lifts the heart above his head.) Johnny Cage has a fatality partially identical to his original fatality--punching his opponent's head off; however, he also rips his opponent's torso off, which makes his newer fatality differ from the original. Liu Kang also retains a similar version of his original fatality (a cartwheel uppercut), but it is instead used as his X-Ray attack in this game.

15. How many characters with absolutely no special powers are present in the Challenge Tower?

From Quiz Mortal Kombat (2011)

Answer: Six

They are: Ruutuu (a demon in one of Nightwolf's challenges), Zombies, Tarkatan Leader, Tarkatan Soldiers, Director (Cage's movie director in one of his challenges) and Unit 5 robot (a Grey palette swap of a Lin Kuei Cyborg). All of these characters possess only basic movesets (kicks and punches).

16. After you beat the Challenge Tower, you get a reward. What reward do you get?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Mileena's Flesh Pit Costume

You fight Mileena after you have beaten Kintaro in the last mission. You also will fight Mileena in her flesh pit costume in the story mode.

17. Story Mode retells the original "Mortal Kombat" trilogy on an alternative timeline. It starts with Raiden sending a message to his past self with the message, 'He must win'. Who is this referring to?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Shao Kahn

The reason behind this is that Shao Kahn has illegally invaded Earthrealm and Raiden believes the Elder Gods need to punish him for doing so. So, Raiden, after being brutally attacked by Shao Khan like his future self warned him about, is revived and prepares himself for one last battle with Shao Kahn.

18. Every playable character has an Arcade ending. Sometimes chracters from previous games cameo in them. In how many endings has Havik appeared?

From Quiz Mortal Kombat (2011)

Answer: One

Havik cameos in Noob Saibot's Arcade ending as an Chaosrealm clerk. He helps Noob in opening a portal, ultimately leading to Noob becoming ruler of the Netherrealm. Havik first appeared in 'Mortal Kombat: Deception' as a playable character.

19. How many chapters does the story last?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Sixteen

Once all chapters are completed, Quan Chi becomes a playable character. Each chapter follows one specific character at a time, starting with Johnny Cage and finishing with Raiden.

20. Which character has a fatality called "Razor's Edge"?

From Quiz The Fatalities of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Kung Lao

"Razor's Edge" is a gory fatality where Kung Lao kicks the opponent down onto his or her back, then throws his razor-laced hat onto the ground, between his opponent's legs, as it begins to spin like a table saw. Kung Lao grabs the opponent's ankles and begins to drag him or her through the hat from the crotch up--all the way to the head--sawing the opponent in half and lifting up both halves of the body with pride. It would be possible for Kenshi, Scorpion, and Kabal to have fatalities named "Razor's Edge," though, as some of their fatalities include using sharp blades to dismember their opponents.

21. Which character possesses a special move called 'Eclipse Kick'?

From Quiz Mortal Kombat (2011)

Answer: Jade

'Eclipse Kick' is the enhanced version of Jade's 'Shadow Kick' where she pushes herself forward with a green-glowing kick, knocking the enemy down. This move first appeared in 'Mortal Kombat II', where she debuted as an unplayable, secret character.

22. Which DLC character is a female blood ninja?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Skarlet

Skarlet was a female Vampire Ninja that was from Outworld. She was the first DLC character to appear in the game. She was also the only female DLC character in the game as well.

23. In the PS3 version of "Mortal Kombat", how many playable characters are there (excluding DLC)?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: 28 & Twenty-eight & Twenty Eight

The Xbox 360 version has the same roster as its PS3 counterpart, only the PS3 has the exclusive character, Kratos from the "God of War" series. The Xbox 360 version was also rumoured to have an exclusive character of its own such as Marcus Phoenix from "Gears of War" or Master Chief from the "Halo" series, but this never happened.

24. What does Mileena NOT do during her "Be Mine" fatality?

From Quiz The Fatalities of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Kiss her opponent's forehead

Mileena starts off by throwing two sai into her opponent's chest. She then proceeds to walk over and caress the cheek of her opponent sensually before ripping the head right off and gnawing on it--and after throwing it to the ground, she slides her hands down the curves of her body while soaked in blood. Her second fatality, "Rip Off," is partially similar to "Be Mine" as it involves her throwing two sai and finishing her opponent off in a sensual manner.

25. Which character has an enhanced special move that "locks on" to the opponent?

From Quiz The Moves of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Sektor

The enhanced version of Sektor's Up Missile (Above) ("down, back + A") turns into Homing Missile ("down, back + A + RT"), which places a green, square crosshair on the opponent as Sektor aims his chest to the sky and fires a missile from his chest cavity that will follow the opponent until it hits them. The missile cannot be avoided but can be blocked. Also, when robot Sektor performs Homing Missile, he says, "Target acquired." When human Sektor does the Homing Missile, he doesn't say anything, and instead of raising his chest to the sky, he raises his arm and fires the missile from his wrist device.

26. The fatality button input of "forward, down, forward, Y" belongs to who?

From Quiz The Fatalities of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Scorpion

This fatality must be executed at touching distance and involves Scorpion unsheathing one of the two swords mounted on his back, cutting the opponent's torso in half, decapitating the opponent, kicking the opponent in the chest, and then slicing the opponent's decapitated head in half. This fatality is named "Split Decision." Sub-Zero also shares a fatality with the same button input--a DLC fatality (recreating his original fatality from the first "Mortal Kombat" game) named "Spine Rip," which is performed at sweep distance.

27. Which character has the most unique X-Ray attack in terms of how you perform it?

From Quiz The Moves of "Mortal Kombat"

Answer: Cyber Sub-Zero

Cyber Sub-Zero has the most unique X-Ray of the bunch because it is the only X-Ray in the game that needs to be executed while in the air. (Kitana also has an aerial X-Ray, but it can be executed on the ground, as well.) The X-Ray of Baraka, Reptile, and Stryker are all blockable, high-hitting X-Rays performed while standing with nothing particularly special about them in terms of execution.

28. X-Rays are considered one of the most brutal additions to the game. Besides Quan Chi, Jade, and Jax, which other character does NOT make their opponent bleed with their X-Ray attack?

From Quiz Mortal Kombat (2011)

Answer: Sindel

Sindel breaks her opponent's leg and procedes to deliver a powerful kick to the groin. Although it takes 35% of the opponent's health bar down, it does not feature blood.

29. In Test Your Luck mode, what happens when you get a single slot that says "Lucky"?

From Quiz "Mortal Kombat 9"

Answer: Kurrency

Each time you get a lucky slot, you get Kurrency. You get an achievement called "lucky to be a lady" if you get lucky on all the slots.
