trivia question Quick Question
Every character starts with one unique item in their inventory. What unique item do Thieves get?

From Quiz ""Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Thief's Trail"

Quest for Glory III: Wages of War Trivia Questions

1. Every character starts with one unique item in their inventory. What unique item do Thieves get?

From Quiz
"Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Thief's Trail

Answer: Magic grapnel

The magic grapnel is thrown at far-away ledges or objects and can "dislodge" itself on command, making it an excellent tool for thieving work. Its primary use is for making rope-bridges you can walk across. It's unfortunate that there isn't much thieving to do in "Quest for Glory 3", but the magic grapnel does see its fair share of use. Also remember that the grapnel is pretty much useless until such time that you can find some rope to attach to it.

2. You'll be starting the game with a selection of 11 different spells. You can increase this to 12 spells right away, by simply using one of the items in your inventory. Which spell will be learned thusly?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Wizard's Way

Answer: Juggling Lights

Juggling lights is almost utterly useless. It costs a lot of Mana points to cast, and its effect is negligible - it will serve as a source of light, in dark areas. There are much more useful spells to learn in Tarna though. All three other choices (Reversal, Force Bolt and Detect Magic) are spells that you have already learned in previous "Quest for Glory" games. If you haven't imported your character from an earlier game, you will have all 11 spells anyway, but will not be exceptionally good at casting any of them until you can practice properly.

3. How many people work at the Bazaar in Tarna?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Dizzying Details

Answer: Fifteen

Their businesses: Used items (two merchants), honey, oil, weapons, fruit, animal skins, fish, rope, beads, wooden crafts, meat, amulets, and cloth. That's 13. In addition, there is a money changer, and also a street drummer. This brings the total to fifteen people. Of course, there's also a thief, but he's not really doing much work anymore. Each of them, except the amulet salesman, has at least some purpose other than for dialogue.

4. What is the maximum level of any attribute or skill in "Quest for Glory 3"?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Intermediate

Answer: 300

It's easy to remember the maximum, just take the episode number you're playing (in this case, three) and multiply by 100. This holds true for each game except the second one - you can reach 250 in that game, but only if you work out hard and even then only two attributes at most can get such a boost.

5. How many times will you be required to use the first spell you receive in "Quest for Glory 3"?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Wizard's Way

Answer: Once

Juggling Lights will only be useful in one specific instance. You will need it to overcome a magical darkness that will be cast upon you by a rival sorcerer. Still, some spells are even more useless in "Quest for Glory 3", such as the "Detect Magic" spell, which doesn't need to be used at all!

6. War is brewing in Tarna. Who are the two belligerent groups?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Tough Cookie

Answer: The Simbani and the Leopardmen

The Simbani are in possession of the Leopardmen's Drum of Magic, while the leopards are in possession of the Simbani's Spear of Death. These two diametrically opposed tribes are now in direct contention, and war will soon break out if you and Rakeesh cannot find a way to reconcile these matters.

7. Where is the Thieves' Guild hidden?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Thief's Trail

Answer: There is no Thieves' Guild

Unfortunately, there is no Thieves' Guild anywhere in Tarna at all. This is the only game in the series which does not feature a guild or even a guild representative. Thieves' Guilds are mainly useful for fencing stolen items, and quite frankly there is practically nothing to steal in this entire game which isn't explicitly useful.

8. Where is the only place to practice magic in the city of Tarna?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Wizard's Way

Answer: Kreesha's House

Kreesha is a Magic-Using Liontaur; in fact she is the only one. Liontaurs do not practice magic, and they have forbidden its use anywhere within city limits. However, Kreesha was given permission to practice in her own house, and that is the only place where you can cast magic within the city without being arrested. Do NOT break the rules, or your game might end!

9. On which "side" of the city does Kreesha live?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Dizzying Details

Answer: Western

If asked, some of Tarna's residents will mention that humans live on the west side, while Liontaurs live on the east side. This is because the Liontaurs do not care to mingle with humans, whom they view as somewhat inferior or at least too much trouble. Kreesha the Liontaur, as she herself will explain, feels more sympathy for humans. She also studies magic, which is generally frowned upon in Liontaur society, while Humans seem to be more interested in that field. In any case, she's chosen to live in the western part of town.

10. What does it mean to be declared "without honor" in the city of Tarna?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Tough Cookie

Answer: No one will talk to you

You'll meet a character who suffers this fate, and it's much worse than it sounds. Not only are people prohibited from speaking to you, but they must not even acknowledge your existence. You can't buy food, you can't get a place to sleep, and the loneliness will eventually drive you mad unless you can find a way to leave the city. Unfortunately, with the rumors of war spreading about, there are no trade convoys coming through and thus no real way to leave...

11. What are the different types of food that may be bought at the Bazaar?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Intermediate

Answer: Fruit, Fish, and Meat

While you do start out with some canned rations, you'll quickly have to replenish your stocks with your choice of sustenance for the journey ahead. Don't go out to the wilderness without food, or you could die from starvation! Meat is by far the best choice of all three. That's because Kalb, the Jackal-man and meat merchant, grovels a LOT. I think he's more of a dog-man than a jackal-man - he's always looking to please you like you were his master. In fact, he'll want to please you so badly, he'll sell those juicy steaks of his for the paltry price of 1 Copper Common, meaning you can buy mountains of the stuff if you ever need it.

12. The currency of Tarna is the Gold Royal. Therefore, it only makes sense that the smaller, copper coinage would be called a Copper ____?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Easy as Pie

Answer: Common

Royals and Commons, get it? A Royal is worth 100 Commons. The Royal is a very, very lucrative coin, mainly because everything in Tarna costs heaps of them, and there aren't many Royals to be had, neither! Fortunately, you're unlikely to need too much money, unless you're absolutely awful at combat and need to buy lots of pills. Combat itself is pretty much the only reliable ways to get Royals, and will provide a small inflow. Thieves will be hard-pressed for cash though - there's virtually nothing good to steal... Fortunately, combat isn't hardly as tough (nor as challenging) as in the other Quest for Glory games.

13. How many thieves are there in the land of Tarna (except you, of course)?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Thief's Trail

Answer: One

You'll meet the thief in the early portion of the game. In fact, he'll be caught and punished. Thievery in Tarna (as any other crime) is punished by being declared "honorless", which is somewhat like being excommunicated. No one is allowed to speak with you, let alone sell you anything, and if you can't leave the city you'll probably starve to death or go insane with loneliness. It's a good thing there's nothing to steal in the city anyway!

14. Except for the king, how many Liontaurs sit in Tarna's Great Council?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Dizzying Details

Answer: 6 & six

The council is made up of only female Liontaurs, who are considered more balanced and level-headed, and that's how they can keep the male Liontaur King in check. This is obviously very useful when the Liontaur on the throne is as quick-tempered as King Rajah Sah Tarna.

15. Salim the Apothecary has run out of the main ingredient he requires to make Healing pills. You probably won't be needing too many of them, but to be on the safe side you should find the ingredient he's looking for. Which item would that be?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Intermediate

Answer: Feather of a Honeybird

Fortunately, you don't have to go up against a Dinosaur to get the healing pills you'll need for taking on Dinosaurs! But you might still run into one while searching for the Honeybird. Honeybirds lure humans to beehives, and wait until the humans rob the hive. Thus, the bird gets to eat the leftovers. You'll need to find a honeybird and let it lead you to a hive. But you'll also need some way to lure the honeybird away from the hive. You can't smack it down or hurt it in any way - the feather must come from a happy bird. And you can't climb up to the bird and take the feather, because those are KILLER BEES that will easily destroy you (pwned by insects!).

16. Who currently rules Tarna?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Easy as Pie

Answer: Rajah

Rajah is Rakeesh's younger brother. He took the throne when Rakeesh abdicated so he could go defeat an ancient demon, many years ago. Rajah is hot-headed and arrogant, and seems very keen to go to war. He also has little respect for his brother Rakeesh, who chose the way of the Paladin over the throne of Tarna. However, Rajah is a just king, and you need not be too afraid of him. But do show him respect, even if he doesn't deserve it.

17. Which character will teach you acrobatics?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Thief's Trail

Answer: The rope merchant

The rope merchant works at the Bazaar in Tarna, and is hard to miss. You will need to identify yourself as a thief if you wish him to discuss this subject. This training will boost your Agility score by 30 points. Agility is one of the thief's most important attributes.

18. Kreesha will help you construct a Magical Staff, if you bring her Magical Wood. The only place to get such material is at the Heart of the World. But which gift must you bring to the Heart of the World to make it grow a nice magical branch for you?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Wizard's Way

Answer: A Blue Orchid

After being told to bring one, you can locate the Blue Orchid simply by wandering around the jungle for a while. It'll be hanging quite high in the branches, but you're a Wizard, so I probably don't need to tell you how to get it down from there.

19. Rakeesh is a powerful Paladin - so why isn't he out there fighting demons instead of you?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Dizzying Details

Answer: He's injured

Rakeesh abdicated the throne so he could go fight a Demon who had beset Tarna, many years ago. He was injured in combat with that demon. The wound has not fully healed, and Rakeesh suspects that a part of the demon itself may still be lodged in his hind leg. Therefore, Rakeesh is no longer capable of fulfilling the task you two set out to accomplish, although he will occasionally serve as a wise adviser and mentor. Still, it does sometimes feel like there's absolutely no good reason, because he seems to spend more time cuddled up with his mate Kreesha than doing anything else. And he does make one cross-country walk with you all the way to the Simbani village... Are you SURE that wound hasn't healed yet, "ol' buddy"?

20. How does the only survivor from the peace mission find his ultimate death?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Tough Cookie

Answer: His body is found at the riverside, dead for unknown reasons

The peace mission was apparently assaulted by demons, not by Leopardmen. The demons did something very nasty to the survivor, and his last few days are not very pleasant - all blurry and terrified. You'll get one chance to converse with him, and it's a pretty disheartening conversation. It's likely that he was better off dying than living on in constant agony as he did...

21. Where is the Temple of Sekhmet?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Easy as Pie

Answer: At the top of the city

The Liontaurs make up the majority population of the city of Tarna. It is their home, and the humans have only recently begun to settle there in earnest. At the very top of the pyramid-shaped city, with steep stairs leading up to it, is the Temple of Sekhmet. This is where the Liontaurs worship their great sphinx-like goddess. Humans are forbidden to enter, although you definitely should give it a go! Just below the temple are the doorways into the Council Chambers and the Throne Room. Do not enter unless you've been summoned!

22. How many "break-ins" can you perform in "Quest for Glory 3"?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Thief's Trail

Answer: Two

Compared to other "Quest for Glory" games, this (third) installment is relatively poor in terms of the unique puzzles for thieves. Thieves usually avoid combat or other aggressive situations, and in turn they must face more puzzles and obstacles, but in "Quest for Glory 3" pretty much all characters will have one or two unique "trials" and nothing more. This makes the thief character perhaps the least interesting character to play in "Quest for Glory 3", but fortunately this is the only game in the series in which that happens.

23. Once a Magical Staff has been constructed, you can summon the staff to you at any given time. What is the benefit you get while holding the staff?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Wizard's Way

Answer: You can cast unlimited spells

At the cost of a meager 5 Mana Points (the same cost as a single "Flame Dart" spell), the Staff allows you to cast any spells you want without wasting any more Mana! If a monster ever attacks you in the wilderness, summon the staff and start blasting spells at it. You will only have to pay those initial 5 Mana Points. Moreover, any spell cast while holding the staff will be more potent than it usually is, so all your ranged attack spells will be much more deadly and may easily kill your opponent before he even gets to you! However, after casting the staff, if you move at all it will immediately disappear, and you would have to re-summon it. The staff will also disappear once you enter into combat. Also don't count on the staff to be a tool for practice - you will not gain proficiency with spellcasting while using the staff. Too bad!

24. How many different kinds of monsters can you fight in the wilderness ("random encounters")?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Dizzying Details

Answer: Seven

In rough order of threat, they are: 1) Giant Ant 2) Croc Man 3) Ape Man 4) Flying Cobra 5) Dinosaur 6) Leopard Man 7) Demon Worm Only the Croc, Ape and Leopard men carry any sort of reward (in the form of money), although Fighters and Paladins will want to defeat and loot a Dinosaur at least once, as proof of their fighting prowess.

25. What is frowned upon in the Simbani village?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Tough Cookie

Answer: Magic

The Simbani are a semi-nomadic tribe of cattle herders. They move their village with the seasons, going where the cattle have the most food to graze upon. This naturally puts them in direct conflict with the Leopardmen, who sometimes prey on their cattle, when the village is erected near the Jungle in the dry season. Leopardmen are devout magic-users, and use magic to transform into their leopard form (normally, they are just humans). The Simbani abhor all magic, although they may come to appreciate it if you show them some beneficial uses for the magical arts.

26. East of the city lies the village of the Simbani. To what race do the Simbani belong?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Easy as Pie

Answer: Human

Simbani are similar to some tribes that still exist in Africa today, like the Masai in Kenya. They speak a sort of Swahili, grow herds of cattle, and move their village with the seasons. And naturally, they're very-lightly dressed. But they are not like the cattle they drive - they are fierce warriors ready to defend their tribe. Gaining their trust may be difficult, unless you are a pretty fierce warrior yourself. Still, you'll be treated as an honored guest in the village, and will even have your own hut next to the Chief's. The village is like an alternative to the trusty Adventurers' Guild - you can train a lot of skills here, if you're patient enough. Fighters will want to spend a lot of time doing that, because they need to win a tough contest later on. Magic Users had better find something else to do - Magic is not welcome in the Simbani Village!

27. How do you enter the hut of the Simbani Laibon (the chief)?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Thief's Trail

Answer: Through the wall

You must enter the Laibon's hut to steal the Spear of Death, an item belonging to the dangerous Leopardmen. You'll do at night, by slashing through the leather wall of the hut. Strangely enough, the Laibon is sleeping right next to the wall, and you'll step over him as you enter! Just make sure your Stealth skill is high by this point, or you'll wake him up.

28. How many Mana Points does it cost to cast the "Lightning Ball" spell?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Wizard's Way

Answer: 10 & ten

Lightning Ball is the new combat spell, which you will receive from Johari if you're smart enough to bug her about magic. It is twice as expensive to cast as "Flame Dart", and supposedly does more damage (it's hard to say). If you have a magical staff though, then mana costs shouldn't be an issue, and you should cast Lightning Ball at enemies before they can get to combat range. In combat, however, it would be prudent to stick to Flame Dart, which appears to have better results. Still, in the next "Quest for Glory" game, Lightning Ball will be much more useful, so make sure to talk to Johari about it!

29. What will be your reward for winning the Initiation contest?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Paladin's Path

Answer: The Drum of Magic

The Laibon will grant you one favour, and you must use that favour well, by asking for something which the Laibon would never give to you otherwise. That would be the Drum of Magic, taken from the Simbani's enemies, the Leopardmen. You will need the Drum of Magic if you are ever to convince the Leopardmen to make peace with the Simbani! If you selected "a wife", you were wrong but still close to the right track. Fighters will not be able to marry the Leopardman prisoner until they can become respected members of the tribe, so there's no avoiding the initiation trial (you don't have to win, though). The initiation will only earn you the RIGHT to marry, not the wife herself.

30. Arne Saknoosen is a member of which animal species?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 3" (PC) - Dizzying Details

Answer: Aardvark

On one of the first nights you happen to sleep next to a bonfire, Arne the Aardvark (or "earth pig") will show up and sit down by the fire, drinking his booze. He knows a lot about the Savannah and the Jungle, but his world view is a bit lopsided and makes the info he gives you very difficult to understand at first. It seems that in the "Quest for Glory" world, Aardvarks are pretty intelligent, and actually build termite mines to extract termites from the earth. If you pay close attention, Arne could at least give you some good clues on things you would want to seek out in the wilderness...
