Rome: Total War Trivia Questions

1. Which cities do the House of Brutii start off with in the game?

From Quiz
The Places in "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Croton and Tarentum

The Brutii family control the southern tip of Italia, which was called in ancient times, "Magna Graecia" (Great Greece). This facilitates the projected expansion of the Brutii faction into Greece and the East.

2. What are the only three factions you can start out with?

From Quiz "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Julii, Brutii, & Scipii

The only three you can start with are Julii, Scipii, and Brutii though the others are available after. After you win with these countries you can play as most of the others.

3. If playing as the Julii faction, which place does the first Senate mission order you to capture?

From Quiz The Places in "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Segesta

The Julii have a city, Arretium, close to the town of Segesta, which is why the Senate's first issued mission is to conquer the town. Normally, the town is previously occupied by Rebels but if the mission is attempted promptly, then the Gallic faction can install themselves in Segesta.

4. Where are the only two places where you can train "Spartan Hoplites"?

From Quiz "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Sparta & Syracuse

If you are a Greek history nut, this would make sense because Sparta colonized both of these places in real life. Syracuse was attacked during the Palepenisian war by the Athenians, but the Spartans got wind of this and intercepted them, and trained the Syracuse warriors into what closely resembled Spartan hoplites. This game however is set after Alexander, so of course it is after the Palepanisian war.

5. With any faction, if you play a full campaign, you must fulfill 2 objectives. One is capturing Rome, what is the other?

From Quiz "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Capture fifty provinces

The only other thing you have to do is capture fifty other provinces; the other objectives are in short campaigns. This can be quite a feat, especially after you sack Rome with one of the houses. If your economic base is based on the other houses, your treasury goes downhill fast. So be sure you are economically independent before you take Rome.

6. What unit can only be trained by a temple?

From Quiz "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Arcani

Arcani are the only ones trained at a temple. Priests come in Barbarian invasion after the Romans were Christian. These are almost like assassins, they are sneaky. However, they are not really strong in battle.

7. What religion are the Romans?

From Quiz "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Pagan

This game is set at the Rise of Rome. The fall is in Barbarian invasion, so obviously, the Romans would be Pagan in this game. A Pagan is defined in Websters Dictionary as "One of a people observing a polytheistic religion, as the ancient Romans."

8. Who has the smallest empire at the start of the game?

From Quiz "Rome: Total War"

Answer: SPQR

The SPQR only contains one province throughout the game. For those wondering SPQR stands for the "Senate and People of Rome". Although it's allies contain huge empires, this will remain the smallest.

9. When you conquer a settlement, you have the options to Occupy, Enslave or _____ the settlement.

From Quiz The Places in "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Exterminate

All of these options have an effect on the amount of money your faction has earned but may have a negative effect on the population count and growth. Occupy pays a small amount of denarii (if playing as a faction of Rome) but does not reduce the population of the settlement. Enslave reduces the city population by half and generates more revenue than Occupy. Exterminate eliminates 75% of the population of the city but gives a high amount of money to the faction.

10. When a member of your family is part of an armed force, automatically they become the commander of said force. They can also become resident in conquered settlements. What does NOT happen when a family member enters a settlement?

From Quiz The Places in "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Tax rate increases

The tax rate is something that players control themselves, it only has one automatic setting, which is after a settlement is conquered the tax rate is set at 'Normal', which does not change automatically when a family member enters a settlement. Population growth can be affected either positively or negatively, depending on the traits of the family member in question.

11. What bonus does the Mausoleum wonder bestow?

From Quiz Rome: Total Quiz

Answer: Faster build time for high-end structures

The wonders are scattered about, although most are in and around Greece. The mausoleum is particularly useful for Rome, as it is one of the only factions which can construct high-end buildings (those that take six turns to complete). Other factions, like Gaul, do not benefit from this wonder at all. The Statue of Zeus wonder, also in Greece, is of major strategic importance, as it gives a flat increase to loyalty in every city. Extremely useful for any empire that grows so large that its outlying settlements begin to riot.

12. The region that has Capua (modern Santa Maria Capua Vetere) as its regional capital is ____________.

From Quiz The Places in "Rome: Total War"

Answer: Campania

Campania was a part of the southern region of Italia, known as Magna Graecia. It also contains the ancient settlements of Naples (Neapolis), Pompeii, Stabiae and Herculaneum, some of which were obliterated by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79. It was known for its rich countryside that was suitable for viticulture and farming.
