The Witcher Trivia Questions

1. Geralt was looking for Ciri. Which physical feature did he often mention to people when asking about her?

From Quiz
Geralt's Journey - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Answer: Ashen hair

Ciri had grey-white hair and green eyes. She also had a deep scar on her left cheek. A decendent of Elder blood, she had numerous magical abilities, including the ability to travel through space and time. Geralt adopted Ciri when she was young and trained her as a witcher. In this game, Ciri was on the run from the Wild Hunt - a group of spectral warriors who wanted to control her abilities.

2. A mysterious individual known as Gaunter O'Dimm rescued Geralt from a death sentence. What did Geralt have to do in return?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: Grant three wishes to Olgierd von Everec

Gaunter O'Dimm was a secretive, enigmatic character who appeared to have numerous magical abilities: he could pause time, create magical worlds, and had the power to grant wishes. Gaunter - otherwise known as Master Mirror - had made a pact with Olgierd. Olgierd's wishes would come true and then Gaunter would gain possession of the man's soul. Master Mirror enlisted the help of Geralt to fulfil Olgierd's wishes. 'Be careful what you wish for' was a key theme in his story.

3. Drowners were a necrophage creature, meaning they ate corpses. Where would you most likely encounter a Drowner?

From Quiz Geralt's Journey - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Answer: Near a body of water

Drowners usually congregated near water, like rivers, lakes, and sewers. They often protected some kind of 'treasure' lying on the riverbed or washed up on the banks. Drowners were humanoid, but havd blue, scaly skin and dorsal fins.

4. Arachasae are formidable foes, found in amongst the dense undergrowth and caves of Velen. According to Geralt's bestiary, as what are arachasae classified?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Insectoids

Arachasae can be just as tricky to fight up close as from afar. Their venom attacks can wither away Geralt's health in the blink of an eye if he's not careful, while attempting to gain some distance can cause the arachas to spit an immobilising web at him, often followed by a powerful charging attack. Arachasae are most often encountered in the dark depths of Velen's cave systems and can be found in various forms - armoured arachasae can be particularly painful to deal with due to their added protection.

5. Geralt ran into an old acquaintance who helped him with some of his quests in "Hearts of Stone". What was the name of the medic who had been healing soldiers on the front line?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: Shani

Shani had trained as a medic at Oxenfurt Academy. She had appeared in a previous "Witcher" game and turned up again in "Hearts of Stone". Gearlt found her in the sewers trying to resuscitate a soldier. They had been sent below Oxenfurt to collect a sample of the toad creature's venom. After the toad problem had been resolved, Shani helped Geralt fulfil Olgierd's wishes.

6. The Bloody Baron was a main character in the game's plot. Who was he searching for?

From Quiz Geralt's Journey - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Answer: His wife and daughter

The Bloody Baron hired Geralt to find his missing wife and daughter. In exchange, he would tell Geralt what he knew of Ciri's whereabouts. The Baron told Geralt that his family had vanished one night, but that was a lie. He knew more about their disappearnce than he wanted people to know.

7. One of Geralt's quests, "Wild at Heart", sees him tracking down and battling which cursed beast in a cave beneath an abandoned shack?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Werewolf

This side quest can be picked up from Blackbough and sees Geralt helping a hunter called Niellen track down his missing wife. Geralt searches the local area and finds clues leading him to a shack. Tracks leading down to a cave underneath reveal the lair of a werewolf and Geralt does battle with this beast when it attacks him. Before Geralt is able to strike the final blow, the werewolf capitulates and reveals himself to be Niellen. He had killed his wife in a rage, caused by his sister-in-law (who secretly loved him) and who wanted his true werewolf form to revealed and for his wife to leave him.

8. In "Hearts of Stone", which event did Geralt attend, along with a ghost and an old friend?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: A wedding

Gerlat was tasked with showing Olgierd's brother a good time. The problem was, Vlodimir was dead. Luckily, his ghost was able to possess Geralt's body and the two of them went to the wedding with Shani. Shani and Vlodimir/ Geralt took part in lots of different events at the party, including herding pigs and diving for shoes. (There were more typical activities like drinking and dancing, too.)

9. Which sorceress did Geralt meet in Novigrad?

From Quiz Geralt's Journey - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Answer: Triss Merigold

Triss was in hiding in Novigrad, secretly helping mages escape from the numerous witch hunters and Eternal Fire practioners that were punishing people of magic. The King of Beggars was providing protection for Triss in exchange for a large proportion of her profits. When Geralt first met Triss in Novigrad, she was ridding a warehouse of rats. The job was a trap, however. Geralt and Triss fought the witch hunters who rushed in to kill her after the job was done.

10. Which imposing relict of Velen can summon crows, wolves and roots against Geralt should he wander into its domain?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Leshen

These great, tree-like monsters roam silently through the forests of Velen and have no problem calling upon their innate powers to stop Geralt in his tracks. The Igni sign is particularly effective against this type of foe (given that it's primarily woody) and it can be easy to get a few attacks in after it teleports around the battlefield. Just keep an eye on its root attacks - these can knock Geralt down and leave him exposed.

11. A new craftsman was introduced in "Hearts of Stone". Which type of artisan could give Geralt a boost in combat?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: Runewright

With "Hearts of Stone" an Ofieri runewright appeared at Upper Mill, though sadly without his tools. Once Geralt helped him find the materials he needed (and paid a pretty hefty start-up fee), the man would make runewords and glyphwords to improve Geralt's equipment. The glyphword Deflection, for example, would divert arrows when it was added to a piece of armour and Eruption could make enemies explode.

12. What was the name of the card game that Geralt could play in 'The Witcher 3'?

From Quiz Geralt's Journey - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Answer: Gwent

Gwent was a two-player card game that you (as Geralt) could play. You could earn money by betting before you started, and some opponents would give you one of their cards if you beat them. There were Gwent quests that you could complete in order to earn more high-level cards.

13. Drowners, found around most of Velen's waterways, are classified as what sort of creatures in Geralt's bestiary, given their proclivity for consuming dead flesh?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Necrophages

Drowners, despite their squishy and weak appearance, can quickly overwhelm the unwary traveller if they happen to stray into their territory. Found along the water's edge primarily, drowners are almost always in groups and can attack hard and fast if provoked. Their "safety in numbers" approach can often mean Geralt is surrounded on all sides, so effective use of signs (particularly Aard to knock them back and Igni to ignite them) can keep the tide of battle from turning unfavourably.

14. Gwent was a card game that Geralt could play throughout "Witcher 3: Wild HUnt". Which Gwent deck became available in "Blood and Wine"?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: Skellige

The Skellige deck arrived with "Blood and Wine". It featured a new type of weather card, two new leader cards, and a range of combat cards with 'tight bond' or 'brotherhood' abilities (which provided a boost to the player's score). Three new hero cards were also added: Cerys, Hjalmar, and Ermion. The cards could be bought, or won in games against merchants.

15. Geralt teams up with fellow witcher Lambert and tracks down which vampiric creature, responsible for a string of gruesome killings in Novigrad?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Ekimmara

In the quest "Following the Thread", Lambert and Geralt discover they are hunting the same beast, which turns out to be an ekimmara. While Geralt's intentions were purely for his own benefit (after all, there was a contract to get rid of the beast), the ekimmara proved to be a mere stepping stone in Lambert's quest to track down those who had killed a close friend of his. "The Mystery of the Byways Murders" also sees Geralt track down a particularly powerful ekimmara inside some elven ruins. Though they are classified alongside "traditional" vampires, ekimmaras are a lot less humanoid and much more beastlike with their acquisition and consumption of blood, opting for a "tear and slurp" approach rather than the more usual "bite and suck".

16. Who invited Geralt to Toussaint with a contract in "Blood and Wine"?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: Duchess Anna Henrietta

In Toussaint, knights had been murdered and the evidence suggested that it was the work of a monster. Two knights journeyed to Velen to offer Geralt a contract to find the culprit. The Duchess has requested him personally. "Blood and Wine" was a pretty huge expansion pack. It opened up a whole new country (Toussaint) and offered over 90 new quests.

17. Geralt could use signs for defense and attack. What was the name of the fire sign?

From Quiz Geralt's Journey - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Answer: Igni

Igni was the fire sign, which could be used for attack. Enemies were burned and could catch fire, which did damage over time. The Yrden sign created a magic trap that was particularly effective against noonwraiths and nightwraiths. When inside the trap, the wraiths maintained their physical presence: it was much easier to do damage to them. The Aard sign was a telekinetic blast that could knock over or stun enemies. It could also be used to force doors open and clear blocked entrances.

18. Geralt tracks down a doppler in Novigrad, after a contract is posted for removal. Once Geralt finds it and the two do battle, what form does the doppler take?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Geralt

Dopplers are shapeshifters, able to assume the shape of anything they want. Though with this ability comes a reluctance to harm; thus, dopplers are generally not noticed and tend to blend in. Geralt's run-in with a doppler in Novigrad culminates in a battle against himself, as the doppler copies his opponent. Luckily, Geralt's superior swordplay skills prevail and he is then given the option of killing the doppler or letting him go.

19. Scurvers were a new kind of monster introduced in "Blood and Wine". What hazard did they present when they were near death?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: They exploded and dealt damage to anyone in range.

Scurvers were similar to the rotfiends of the base game, though the new monsters had spikes covering their bodies. When they were in combat and about to die, they would explode, just as rotfiends did. They presented an additional problem, however: when they exploded, their sharp spines flew out and caused additional damage to anyone nearby. Scurvers were attracted to blood and would appear around dead bodies.

20. What is the name of the godling whose voice Geralt helps to restore in Crookback Bog?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Johnny

Compared to most other creatures that Geralt encounters, godlings are amongst the nicest. Resembling children (and possessing the rare ability to talk), godlings have good intentions towards the settlements they watch over. Geralt's arrival in Crookback Bog kicks off with helping a young godling called Johnny get his voice back. In return, Johnny arranges an audience with the Crones, in the hope that they can help Geralt track down Ciri.

21. Which creature could shapeshift into other people or beasts that they had encountered?

From Quiz Geralt's Journey - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'

Answer: Doppler

Dopplers could take on the appearance and characteristics of any living thing that they had encountered before. Dudu was a doppler and friend who helped Geralt to rescue Dandelion from prison. Geralt could also meet a doppler on 'An Elusive Thief', a witcher contract from a market merchant. The doppler shapeshifted into Geralt during the fight, but could not compete with the real witcher. Geralt had to choose whether to kill him or let him run away and leave Novigrad.

22. Jenny o' the Woods is found near Midcopse in Velen and takes the form of what sort of specter?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Nightwraith

Robbed of a life of love thanks to her untimely death, Zula is stuck in this plane of existence as a nightwraith, haunting the area around Midcopse. With silver sword in hand, Geralt is able to track down the specter known as Jenny o' the Woods and bring her peace, sending her into the afterlife. Nightwraiths require special tactics to defeat; they are normally immaterial unless forced into a material form by trapping them with the Yrden sign. This allows a brief window for Geralt to attack before it breaks free. Nightwraiths can also create duplicates; though these are usually weaker, they can nonetheless pose a threat to Geralt, particularly if he is distracted long enough for the nightwraith to strike a few blows.

23. Geralt became a property owner in "Blood and Wine". What kind of establishment was he given?

From Quiz "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" Expansion Packs

Answer: A vineyard

The Duchess granted Geralt the deeds to a vineyard that he could use as a base while he ivestigated the string of murders. Players could purchase upgrades, such as a grindstone to buff swords and a greenhouse to grow the herbs needed in alchemy. Any weapons or suits of armour that Geralt had collected could be put on display, too. Upgrading the guestroom would also lead to an unexpected visitor...

24. What type of creature does Geralt help the baron deal with at Crow's Perch during the "Family Matters" quest?

From Quiz The Beasts of Velen & Novigrad

Answer: Botchling

A dead foetus not receiving a proper burial spawns a botchling, a gruesome creature that preys on pregnant women. Geralt encounters one at Crow's Perch and discovers it to be the daughter of the baron. He is then presented with a choice - kill the botchling to protect the village, or try and turn it into a lubberkin, a good spirit that can watch over the family.
