The second instance occurs after you escort him home to protect him from the were-creatures. He gets to his door and can't get in. You have to break the pots which are dotted around his home to find three spares.

As well as being used as a mode of transport, the bunny hopper is featured in a couple of missions where items need to be smashed in order for you to proceed. To use the hopper all you have to do is to jump on top of it and you are away and if you then press the x button you can produce a higher bounce and by pressing the square button you can smash down on items. To dismount you use the triangle key.
