1. Regarding the first playable character, Shun Akiyama, what incident from a previous "Yakuza" game was the catalyst for his rise back up in the world after being fired from Toto Bank and becoming homeless?

Answer: Explosion at the top of the Milennium tower from "Yakuza 1"

Shun Akiyama was an elite college graduate who found a good job at Toto Bank. However, after being framed for embezzlement, he lost all his money trying to investigate who framed him. At the end of "Yakuza 1" when Akira Nishikiyama caused the explosion in the Millennium Tower, billions of yen rained down on the city. Akiyama was able to gain a lot of this money and ironically, it was the same money he had been accused of embezzling.

The Hakuho clan is a satellite of Kamuracho's Tojo clan. Mine was able to rise to the top of the Hakuho clan through is mind and his money (bribary and business skills). Originally Mine's Hakuho clan seemed to be supportive of Daigo as head of the Tojo clan before his ulterior motives were revealed.

After seeing Shintaro Fuma to deliver the debts Kazuma collected, Kazuma gets a phone call from Shinji who tells him that Dojima has kidnapped Yumi and Nishiki has gone after her. Fearing for their safety, Kazuma, against Fuma's wishes, decides to go after them. When Kazuma gets to Dojima's office, he sees that Nishiki has killed Dojima and Yumi is on the floor in a deep shock. Because Nishiki's sister is unwell in the hospital and her next operation could be her last, Kazuma orders Nishiki to take Yumi and escape. Kazuma is then arrested and sentenced to prison for ten years.

Akiyama went after the Hatsushiba clan as they broke into his office knocking out Hana, his secretary, in order to retrieve the account book of Sky Finance under the pretense of that Akiyama's company was taking customers from Hatsushiba loan sharks. Kido, who was also at the office at the time was taken by Midorikawa which caused Akiyama to become suspicious of Kido due to his being a great fighter.

A frequent boss in the "Yakuza" series, in the third "Yakuza" game you can fight him more than twice in Ultimate Challenge and the Coliseum, however in the story of the game you only fight him twice. In the second "Yakuza" game, Mark Hamill, who most famously played Luke Skywalker, in the Star Wars movies voiced Majima in the English dub.

Saejima befriended Hamazaki after being moved to a secret prison off the coast of Okinawa. Saejima was sent there for his execution after a twenty-five year stint in prison, being accused of murdering eighteen Ueno-Seiwa clan members. Saejima assisted Hamazaki in escaping and in finding the error in his ways as he was the first person to ever truly trust Hamazaki.

Based in Okinawa, they are a small family and constantly battle with the Tamashiro family for control of Ryukyu. Rikiya and Mikio are members of this family. The Ryudo family were originally assisting (unknowingly) in the plan to demolish the orphanage, but after befriending Kiryu and Haruka, the Ryudo family did their utmost to assist Kiryu and the orphanage.

For reasons unknown, Fuma Oyabun is unable to meet Kazuma when he is released. He instead sends him a letter, explaining that in the time he has been away the Tojo Clan has changed a lot and there is something important that he needs to tell him. He tells Kazuma to go to Stardust as Fuma knows the owner of the bar and that the owner will be expecting him.

Answer: Sasai Family

Saejima joined the Sasai Family as a teenager after being discovered by Hideki Sasai when he was fighting to save up money for his sister Yasuko's kidney operation. After Saejima's failed assassination of Yoshiharu Ueno, Sasai disbanded the family and was found half-dead by Goro Majima. Sasai lost everything and ended up living in the Purgatory as a homeless man.

These two can only be completed in Kamuracho when Rikiya is with you. These two quests were both involving Rikiya including finishing Rikiya's tattoo and assisting Rikiya in trying to woo a girl he loved back in Okinawa as a child.

After the fight with Shimano, Kazuma jumps into a car and speeds away from the funeral. The driver is revealed to be Detective Date. The two of them then team up to find the missing ten billion yen and Yumi, as Date believes the two of them are somehow connected.

Tanimura's father was killed due to the fact he found out the truth about the assassination attempt on Yoshiharu Ueno. He found the truth about the Ueno-Seiwa and Shibata clans conspiring with each other to set up the Sasai clan but he also stumbled upon the police corruption behind it. His father was killed for this and it created Tanimura's desire to become a police officer.

Fujiwara is known for his portrayal of Shuhei Nanahara in the "Battle Royale" series. Nakamura and Shigeru also did voices for characters in this game (Mine and Nakahara respectively) while Funaki played Kiryu in the live movie of the first "Yakuza" game.

Haruka is found in Bacchus surrounded by dead bodies and holding a gun. She explains she came to the bar looking for her mother and found all the bodies. Kazuma decides to take Haruka with him, which sets off the chain of events in the game.

Answer: Junji Sugiuchi

After uncovering the police corruption and the cover up of the true killer of the eighteen Ueno-Seiwa members (Katsuragi), Sugiuchi killed Tanimura's father. After Tanimura discovered Sugiuchi's false report on the incident and after confronting Sugiuchi, Sugiuchi admitted the truth and also revealed himself as a member of the Ueno-Seiwa clan. He died in Tanimura's arms after being shot by an unknown gunman.

The orphanage plays a central role in the game due to its importance in the Okinawan Resort deal and is unfortunately knocked down by Tamashiro and Mine. Mine had also found personal pleasure in destroying the orphanage due to his own negative experiences growing up in an orphanage.

Haruka is kidnapped by the Snake Flower Triad later in the game. Their leader is Lau Ka Long, a man that Kiryu has dealt with and was tortured by in the past.

Kiryu fought Saejima when Saejima had recovered from his injuries from his prison escape and demanded Kiryu to assist him in getting back to Kamurocho to sort out his past. He fought both Akiyama and Tanimura at the same time when he returned to Kamurocho when Akiyama and Tanimura found Kiryu chasing them, assuming he was out to capture Yasuko Saejima who Kiryu was also trying to protect.

All character's tattoos have meanings respective to their characters. Mine's Kirin is representative of power due to the Kirin being rated as one of the strongest mythological beasts. Kazuma's is relative to his nickname, the Dragon of Dojima and his ferocity. Kanda's is a Geisha and seems to represent his indulgence in women and Rikiya's is a snake of Okinawa, representing where he is from.

After being shown a picture of Mizuki's body, Kazuma, on closer inspection of the picture, realises that her tattoo was done by Utabori the second, the master tattoo artist who also made Kazuma's tattoo. Not certain if the women in the picture really is Mizuki, Kazuma decides to see Utabori and investigate. After seeing Utabori, Kazuma finds out that Utabori did not do this tattoo, saying that a lot of people have been copying him. Utabori then offers to touch up Kazuma's tattoo, saying that with a weak dragon on his back, Kazuma will not be a match for Nishiki, who has a carp.

Answer: Kamurocho Hills

Kiryu had to fight his way up to the top of the Kamurocho Hills development site. This was due to Katsuragi not wanting to fight Kiryu and thought Kiryu would be too tired to fight if he had to fight his way through the entire Ueno-Seiwa clan. Unfortunately for Katsuragi, he was betrayed by Hiroaki Arai and was killed by Yasuko, who he had shot moments before.

Kazuma and Richardson are polar opposites in the game. Joji is Kiryu's adoptive father's brother and is investigating the arms group Black Monday. Richardson, originally thought to be a CIA operative is really the head of Black Monday and is one of the masterminds behind the Okinawan resort deal.

Purgatory is hidden in West Park. It is run by Kage, the legendary informant. It is an underground gambling and pleasure den. It is also used as an illegal fighting arena and is linked to thousands of hidden cameras all over the city.

Answer: Taiga Saejima

Saejima and Majima were Yakuza brothers before Saejima was sent to jail. For many years, Saejima thought that Majima had betrayed him as both of them were going assassinate Yoshiharu Ueno, but Kazuo Shibata had kidnapped Majima in order to make Saejima do it on his own. This was to set up the Sasai family and allow them to take the fall in order for the Shibata family to rise up the Tojo clan ranks. Majima lost his eye while captive after one of Shibata's men cut it out with a knife.

Date is still able to assist Kiryu greatly in the game, even though he is no longer a detective. He is able to assist Kiryu on information regarding Joji, Black Monday and the internal strife in the Tojo clan. He also falls in love with the New Serena bar manager, Mariko.
