Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Divert stream to expert. (6)

Answer: Master

Simple anagram. Divert indicates change "stream". Expert = master. Get it?
2. Garment covers a river. (4)

Answer: Sari

A container. The answer is right there. Sari is an Asian garment made of several yards of lightweight cloth draped so that one end forms a skirt and the other a head or shoulder covering.
3. Ok. You hear me? (3)

Answer: Aye

This one's a homophone which means the answer sounds like the clue. Ok=Aye, and me= I. Easy, huh?
4. After 6 and 5, ego is intense. (5)

Answer: Vivid

This is a play on words referring to Roman numerals (6=VI and 5=V), and ego approximates ID (for the purpose of the puzzle). You get "vivid" meaning intense. Fun, huh?
5. Load any damn Beatle's gal? (4,7)

Answer: Lady Madonna

This is a combination of clues: Pun, and lit, and anagram. Load any damn (anagram), "damn" meaning two things, and "gal" being the pun. I love these multiple clues!
6. I heard you were aware of African antelope? (3)

Answer: Gnu

Another homophone. (Knew and Gnu). I could have added "new" or "Nu", but I thought it would have been too complicated. Bet you got it!
7. Satisfy endlessly and entreaties? (5)

Answer: Pleas

This is a removal and a pun. "Endlessly" indicates removing a letter from the end of a word (the "e" from please), to come to "pleas" meaning entreaties.
8. Initially, Steve couldn't understand Bill's aquatic diving equipment. (5).

Answer: Scuba

This is an example of "hidden answers". Take the first letter of the wordplay clue (S,C,U,B,A) to get the literal clue (diving equipment).
9. Soap can inhibit fellow? (9)

Answer: Detergent

This is a charade. Two separate clues: inhibit = deter and fellow = gent. Put them together to get "detergent" (soap).
10. Prevent vessels overturning. (4)

Answer: Stop

This is an example of a "reversal". Prevent is the literal clue and "vessels overturning" is "pots" backwards. Hope you enjoyed my quiz. Thanks, Bwebster.
