Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Moose International?

Answer: A service organization

According to Moose International's website they are "A fraternal and service organization of 1.5 million men and women." It is unclear whether a real moose is eligible to join.
2. What is Mussolini International?

Answer: There is no such thing

Mussolini's Fascist Party Blackshirts marched into Rome in 1922 and took power almost ten years before Adolf Hitler became the leader of Germany. Rumor has it that Mussolini's daughter is still alive and enjoys telling moose stories about her father.
3. What is the tallest member of the deer family?

Answer: The moose

A moose can stand seven feet tall. A giraffe is taller, but it is not a member of the deer family. I hear that Canadian basketball teams like to put a moose on the team as center. They do, however, have a real problem with dribbling the ball.
4. Who was the world's tallest member of the Axis powers during World War II?

Answer: Hitler

Hitler was the tallest of these four men standing between 5'7" and 5'9" depending on which source you consult. All of the pictures I have seen of Hitler and Mussolini together show that Mussolini was 1 or 2 inches shorter. It is suspected that most of the photographs of Mussolini in uniform show his moose skin boots.

5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) -- Adolf Hitler
5 ft 6½in (1.69 m) -- Benito Mussolini
5 ft 6 in (1.67 m) -- Hideki Tojo
5 ft 5 in (1.65 m) -- Emperor Hirohito.
5. What do moose eat?

Answer: Willow, birch, and aspen twigs

Moose eat this food during the fall and winter. There is great debate over what Italian moose eat.
6. What did Mussolini eat?

Answer: Italian food

Being from Italy, Mussolini ate Italian food! It is believed that his favorite dish was Moose Scallopini. One must think that his favorite dessert was Chocolate Mousse.
7. Only male moose have antlers.

Answer: True

Mature males shed their antlers once a year in November/December and replace them with new larger ones. I have heard that during Halloween, some female moose wear fake antlers.
8. Mussolini had antlers.

Answer: False

There are no known pictures of Benito Mussolini with antlers although there is a rumor that Mussolini had matching moose costumes made for relaxing weekends with Hitler.
9. What is the number one hunted big-game species in Alaska?

Answer: Moose

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulates the moose hunt in Alaska.
10. Who was the number one hunted dictator in Italy in 1945?

Answer: Mussolini

In April, 1945, Mussolini was arrested and he and his mistress, Clara Petacci, were taken from the jail and lynched. Oddly, the Communist partisans who did this were later fined by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for not having proper hunting licenses.
11. What is the name of a professional hockey team in Manitoba, Canada?

Answer: Manitoba Moose

The Manitoba Moose play in the AHL in Winnipeg. If Mussolini were alive today, it would probably be his favorite team.
12. What is the name of the professional hockey team on which Mussolini played goalie?

Answer: Mussolini didn't play hockey

History does not reveal whether Mussolini ever played ice hockey. For that matter, history does not reveal whether Mussolini ever met a real live moose.
13. What "moose" related city is found in Saskatchewan, Canada?

Answer: Moose Jaw

The city of Moose Jaw has nothing to do with Moose or Mussolini. The Cree word Moosegaw meaning "Warm Breezes" evolved into the name Moose Jaw. There is no truth to the rumor that Mussolini is alive and well and living in the Moose Jaw tunnel!
14. What "moose" related city is found in Italy?

Answer: There is none.

The moose does not figure heavily in the history of Rome or Italy although some say that the Roman Empire fed its soldiers canned moose meat as early as 345 B.C. Others disagree.
15. How much does an adult male moose weigh?

Answer: 1200-1500 lbs

Females weight over 900 lbs. It has been reported that Mussolini's mother also weighted over 900 lbs!
16. Mussolini weighed how much?

Answer: Between 50 and 500 lbs.

Vatican records show that Mussolini tried to get Hitler excommunicated because he was upset over Hitler's annexation of Austria. Some historians say the real dispute was over whether Italy or Germany could use the moose as their "official" animal.
17. In Europe moose are called what?

Answer: Elk

North America also has the "elk" which is a totally different species. A North American moose will ignore you if you say "Hey, Elk, come here!". The European moose, however, will come every time.
18. In Europe, Mussolini was called what?

Answer: "Il Duce"

"Il Duce" means leader. In private, his surviving servants say he perferred to be called "Il Moose".
19. Where would you find a moose in the wild?

Answer: All over the Northern Part of the Northern Hemisphere

Moose live in coniferous forests. Non-wild moose live anywhere they can afford the rent.
20. Where would you have found Mussolini?

Answer: Italy

Mussolini was the leader of Italy from 1922 to 1943. He invaded Ethiopia in 1935. Amazingly, not one moose was killed during the entire invasion!
