Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many victory points do you need to win a game of Catan?

Answer: 10

In order to win a standard game of Catan you must earn 10 victory points. If you like shorter games you might change the amount of points you need to win.
2. Which one of the following is not a natural resource in "Settlers of Catan"?

Answer: Water

Resources are needed to build/buy anything you need to earn points, for example settlements, roads, cities, and development cards.
3. How do you build cities?

Answer: Expand a Settlement

Cities are the most effective way to earn points because they double how many resources you earn from adjacent areas and they are worth two points.
4. Which resources do you need to build a road?

Answer: brick and wood

Roads must be built if you want to build settlements because settlements must be two spaces apart. Plus, by building several road segments, you could earn two points from the "longest road" card.
5. What resources do you need for a development card?

Answer: Ore, Wheat, and Sheep

Development cards are for the gambler because sometimes they earn you points or valuable resources, other times they do next to nothing to help you win.
6. By the standard rules, how many possible board configurations exist?

Answer: Hundreds of millions

The board changes almost every time because it is random what numbers are put on resources and where the resources are on the island.
7. If you roll a seven what happens?

Answer: You can move the robber

The robber allows you to take away production from a spot on the island until he is moved, and you get to steal one random resource card from one person.
8. What does a 2:1 sheep port mean?

Answer: You can trade two sheep for one other resource

Ports give you the freedom to trade with the bank. There are a 2:1 ports for every resource, and a 3:1 random port.
9. How many points is a chapel worth?

Answer: 1

Some development cards are worth points like the chapel, the university, etc. All base game development cards that are worth points score just one.
10. What is the minimum length of the longest road?

Answer: 5

The longest road must be at least five segments long and longer than everyone else's roads. It is one of two ways of getting points where you can lose the points again later.
