Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What would an Australian, in "strine", call their "gluteus maximus"?

Answer: Bum

Well, an ass is a relative of the donkey (although the similar-sounding arse can be used as a strine reference to this part of the body); posterior may be used in polite company; and as for funny bone, well, in that refers to a completely different part of the anatomy!
2. If I'm "under the affluence of incohol", what am I?

Answer: Drunk

You're under the "influence of alcohol", obviously drunk "as a skunk" or even a "lord"! Inebriation may have impaired your ability to get the words starting with the right initial syllables as you tried to describe yourself.
3. If you "can talk under wet cement" you do what?

Answer: Have a lot to say

My five year old daughter can talk under wet cement, then again, her father is Irish and don't they have the gift of the gab!
4. If you want to "put a bomb under someone", what would you really want to happen?

Answer: Get them to hurry up

You want them to do something faster, similar to "put a rocket under them"!
5. What's a "Balmain Bulldozer"?

Answer: A four wheel drive

Specifically, a four wheel drive used only for city driving, not unlike a "Toorak Tractor", a "North Shore Tank" or a "Bronte Buggy"!
6. What time does "beer o'clock" fall on a weekday?

Answer: Five o'clock

"Beer o'clock" generally refers to knock off time, the end of the working day, i.e., five o'clock - if you work "nine to five", that's when it's time to wind down with a beer!
7. What's a "bubbler"?

Answer: A drinking fountain

A "bubbler" is a small drinking fountain which squirts a stream of water into the mouth at the push of a button or turn of a handle. Usually found in parks and school yards.
8. If you've "dropped your bundle", what are your circumstances?

Answer: You're finding it hard to cope

"Bundle", meaning the load you carry. So, if you've "dropped your bundle" you've lost control of the situation and you're finding it hard to get things sorted!
9. "Territory rig" or "Darwin rig" is what?

Answer: A style of dress in the Northern Territory

"Territory / Darwin rig" is male attire adopted in the Northern Territory on official occasions. Long trousers, shirt and tie. Also referred to the tropical look of the 1970's and 1980's which combined a short sleeved shirt, longish shorts and long socks!
10. What, specifically in northern Australia, is a "cheerio"?

Answer: A small frankfurt

Cocktail frankfurts, or "Cheerio's", are great for children's parties, and my kids love them for dinner! Known as "little boys" in southern Australia!
