1. In what region of Toril was Elminster born?

Answer: Athalantar

Athalantar no longer exists in present day Toril. At the present time (DaleReckoning) Elminster lives in Shadowdale.

2. Which of Elminster's uncles was sitting on the Stag Throne during the course of the book?

Answer: Belaur

Belaur was the oldest of the children of the Stag King (Uthgrael). This is not to suggest that Belaur was the real power in the realm, as he tended to be mostly just a puppet king for the magelords to control everything in the area.

3. What did Elminster hate so much that he wanted nothing to do with it?

Answer: magic

His hatred stemmed from the fact that his entire village was destroyed by a magelord. It upset him deeply that people with such power used it with no thought of the damage they did to other people.

4. Who did not help Elminster leading up to his fight against the magelords?

Answer: Undarl

Undarl Dragonrider was the magelord who destroyed Elminster's village at the beginning of the book.

5. What did Mystra do to Elminster after his encounter with her in her temple in Hastarl?

Answer: turned him into a woman

The reason for turning Elminster into a woman was two-fold. For one, it would keep him off the radar of the magelords, since they would be looking for a man, rather than a woman. Secondly, being a woman would allow Elminster, during this time referred to as Elmara, to "feel" magic much more than if he had remained a man.

Answer: Myrjala

Myrjala had been seen before meeting up with "Elmara". She was also referred to as "Dark Eyes".

Ander was capable of seeing the truth about "Elmara" really being a man. When "she" showed that "she" understood that there was more to magic than simply hurling spells at everything in sight, Ander gave the spell to El to allow for him to return to his original gender.

Ithboltar at one time or another trained pretty much all of the magelords in Athalantar.
