The Galloway hills do exist between Girvan and Dumfries. They're about 100km west of Lockerbie. (Thanks to carolinefo for the correction). Catriona has only left her home once before and that was to tell her guardian that she preferred her home.

2. What is the beverage that Catriona puts the aphrodisiac and sleeping draught in?

Answer: Whiskey

She, somehow, knows that he drinks it before going to sleep.

3. Why does Algaria think that Richard won't be a good husband for Catriona?

Answer: She think that he is too strong

She thinks that he is too mentally strong or stubborn, and willful.
