1. PLOT: A guy in a hurry drives a car from Denver towards San Francisco. Which movie does this describe?

Barbra Streisand was indeed the funny girl in this 1972 screwball comedy centering on a suitcase full of rocks, and had previously starred in the 1968 Fanny Brice movie, "Funny Girl". Her co-star in "What's Up Doc?" was Ryan O'Neal, with Madeline Kahn in a hilarious supporting role. "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" was a 1972 comedy western, starring Paul Newman. "The Absent-Minded Professor" was a 1961 Disney classic that introduced us to the mysterious substance, Flubber.
3. PLOT: Dewey and Huey help Freeman Lowell (Bruce Dern) tend to the garden. Which movie does this describe?

Answer: Silent Running

"Silent Running" is a 1972 sci-fi cult classic detailing one man's desperate fight to preserve the last remaining vegetation from a now barren Earth, that is orbiting in space. Dewey and Huey are the robots he reprograms to help him. "The Jungle Book" is an animated Disney classic from 1967. "The Secret Garden" is a fantasy-drama from 1993. "The Backyard" is a comedy short from 1920 featuring Oliver Hardy.
4. "Hey, you're Snake Plissken, ain't ya? ... I thought you were dead!" This and several similar memorable lines are from what movie?

Answer: Escape from New York

Kurt Russell starred as Snake Plissken in an attempt to rescue the President from Manhattan (in the movie it was a Federal prison) in this 1981 action movie. The line quoted was from the character, Cabbie (Ernest Borgnine), and was repeated in several variations throughout the movie. Russell also starred as Wyatt Earp in the 1993 movie "Tombstone". "Snake Eyes" was a 1998 mystery thriller starring Nicolas Cage. "Reptilicant" was a 2006 sci-fi adventure centered on Alcatraz Island.
5. "Monsters, John! Monsters from the Id!" This a-ha moment is from what movie?

Answer: Forbidden Planet

This line confirms that all was not swell with the Krell, the extinct denizens of the planet Altair IV, in the 1956 movie "Forbidden Planet". This landmark sci-fi classic was a large influence on outer space adventures to come, including "Star Trek" and "Star Wars". "The Bourne Identity" was a 2002 action mystery, starring Matt Damon. 6. SUB-PLOT: Interesting duo rescue a potted tree from the city, take it to the countryside (skirmishing with a policeman en route), and plant it. From which movie is this?

Answer: Harold and Maude

Ruth Gordon (Maude) and Bud Cort (Harold) starred in this classic cult comedy from 1971 about growing up and growing young. The potted tree episode noted was a comic highlight, especially when they were stopped by the police officer, with the tree sticking up tall in the back of the car. Abbott and Costello did a comedy version of the fairytale in "Jack and the Beanstalk" from 1952. "Thelma and Louise" from 1991 starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis in a memorable cliffhanger. Answer: The Magnetic Monster

"The Magnetic Monster" from 1953 starred Richard Carlson, better known for his TV series "I Led Three Lives". The monster in the film was a dangerous radioactive substance, with an almost insatiable appetite for consuming energy. For fans of this cult B movie, it has finally become available on DVD. Carlson also starred in the 1953 sci-fi horror movie, "It Came from Outer Space". "The Abyss" was an underwater sci-fi adventure from 1989. "Underworld" was a 2003 fantasy movie pitting vampires against werewolves.
8. In the French film "Last Year at Marienbad", what was it that supposedly happened the previous year?

Answer: an affair

Directed by Alain Resnais, this haunting film from 1961 tells the story of a man and a woman who may or may not have had an affair the previous year. Time is not linear in the story, which makes trying to follow the story like being in a maze, from which there may not be a way out.
9. Something suddenly jumps out at Susy Hendrix (Audrey Hepburn) in an edge of your seat scene from which movie?

Answer: Wait Until Dark

The incredible tension in this scene usually caused screams from the audience in "Wait Until Dark" from 1967, a thriller in which a blind woman is threatened by thugs in her apartment. Audrey Hepburn also appeared in all the other listed movies, "Always" from 1989, "Charade" from 1963, and "The Unforgiven" from 1960.
