Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On the island of Melita, the apostle Paul was bitten by what animal while lighting a fire?

Answer: Viper

In Acts 28:3, God showed his provision once again. After a disastrous shipwreck in which all were brought safely to shore, Paul's miraculous protection from an otherwise fatal snakebite garnered favor from the inhabitants of Melita (now known as Malta).

The castaways were provided with lodging and food where Paul performed other miracles to show the barbarians of God's goodness and power.
2. What animals avenged the prophet Elisha for the scorn and mocking of the disrespectful youth of Beth-el?

Answer: Bears

2 Kings 2:23,24 says: "And he went up from thence unto Beth-el: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them."
These were most likely older children in their teens. In their disrespect toward Elisha they were as rebellious as their parents, who refused to heed the warnings from God through His prophets to turn away from the evil ways the nation of Israel were involved in.
3. What animal went into battle for the nation of Israel?

Answer: Hornets

Joshua 24:12 says: "And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow."
God was reminding the Israelites that it was through His power, and not their own, that they were victorious.
4. What animal, as described in the King James Version of Matthew 12:40, was used to stop Jonah after he refused to obey the Lord and go to Nineveh?

Answer: Whale

This is the same animal described as a great fish in Jonah 1:17. Bible critics will argue that this translation is a Bible error, since a whale is not a fish, but a mammal.
5. What animal attacked Samson in the vineyard of Tim'nath?

Answer: Lion

Judges 14:5 "Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Tim'nath, and came to the vineyards of Tim'nath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him."
6. What animal did Moses and Aaron have on "staff" to help convince Pharaoh to release the Israelites?

Answer: Serpent

Exodus 7:10 "And Aaron and Moses went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the Lord had commanded; and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent."
7. What animal was used by God to verbally rebuke her master?

Answer: Ass

Numbers 22:28 "And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Ba'laam, What have I done unto thee, that thou has smitten me these three times?"
Balaam didn't see God's miracles of a talking animal (was he too concerned about wealth and glory?), but proceeded to have a conversation. Had the animal's eyes been as blinded as her master's, Balaam would have been slain by the angel of the Lord which stood in the way. God was clear in his instruction to Balaam, but he seems to have chosen man's way instead of God's.
8. What avian helper was first sent by Noah to see if the waters had receded after the great flood?

Answer: Raven

Genesis 8:7 "And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth."

Unlike the dove, which was released after, the raven, being a carrion eater, would land just about anywhere. The dove would not land on an uninhabitable place or one that was unclean.
9. On which day of the week did God populate the seas and the air?

Answer: 5th

Genesis 1:20,23: "And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day."
10. In Psalm 58, to what defective animal are the wicked men of Israel compared?

Answer: A deaf adder

Psalm 58:3,4 says: "The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear."

The unrighteous were wreaking havoc with the poison of their words. So many times the Bible warns of the destructive nature of the tongue. The sinner in his folly would not listen to wise instruction nor obey.
