quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the price of parking at Dick Van Dyke's Barrel of Fun Carnival?

Answer: Free

If you look closely, a small sign is shown when the gang first enters the carnival that says "free parking."
2. What does the ghostly glowing hand say to Mr. Van Dyke?

Answer: "I'll buy a ticket."

It is never explained in the episode how the ghostly hand is able to float by itself, as in the end it is revealed to have been someone's real arm (even though we never see the body attached to it).
3. How much money does Dick say the ghost arm owes him?

Answer: $27

Dick Van Dyke mentions that the arm never paid him for throwing the balls at the bottles and winning numerous dolls.
4. What do Shaggy and Scooby put on the grill?

Answer: Hot dogs and hamburgers

The grill disappears into thin air with the hot dogs and hamburgers, causing Shaggy and Scooby to run out of the kitchen area.
5. Finish Shaggy's quote: "Soon you'll be laughing out of the other side of your _____"

Answer: face

This is said when Shaggy clumsily drops a dumbbell onto the ground, and is angry at Scooby for laughing at him. Scooby takes the expression literally and laughs out of the other side of his face when Shaggy drops the dumbbell again.
6. What magic trick did Dick perform with Velma?

Answer: Disappearing act

Dick apparently has no knowledge of magic, because when the trick is done he asks Velma how he did it.
7. What type of ice cream did Dick Van Dyke eat?

Answer: Tutti frutti

Dick got ice cream on his face when Scooby landed in a cart of ice cream, which happened to be tutti frutti.
8. What did Scooby call his scoop of ice cream?

Answer: Scooby scoop

Dick got a double scoop, Shaggy got a triple scoop, and Scooby got a huge cone with at least 10 scoops, which he called a "Scooby scoop."
9. How does Daphne land in a dodge-um car?

Answer: Falls through a trap door

Daphne goes to take a picture in the photo booth, where a ghost opens a trap door that she falls through into a dodge-um car.
10. What word does Dick *not* know the meaning of?

Answer: coward

After Shaggy and Scooby persuade Dick into hiding from the ghostly strongman chasing them, Dick realizes that he should not have to hide from the ghost and decides he should protect his carnival. He then says that he doesn't even know the meaning of the word "coward," and Shaggy convinces Dick to sit down again so he can tell him the meaning of the word.
11. What type of coin does Dick put into the fortune teller machine?

Answer: Penny

The fortune teller machine was set up to only accept quarters, but Dick attempts to put in a penny so he can save his quarter. The fortune teller then says sternly "That is a penny."
12. Why does Dick stand up in the boat in the Tunnel of Love?

Answer: He is looking for a secret door

Dick ends up falling into the water, but eventually he does find a secret door.
13. What stops Shaggy and Scooby from leaving the secret tunnel?

Answer: A gate comes down, blocking the exit

Shaggy and Scooby end up going the other way with the rest of the gang, and find the strongman.
14. Who is behind the haunting of the carnival?

Answer: Strongman

The strongman wanted to scare Dick away so he could buy the carnival cheap and run it. This is a unique episode because there is no suspects whatsoever because the gang did not meet anyone other than Dick prior to the unmasking, making the mystery nearly impossible to guess.
15. To reward them for saving his carnival, Dick gives the whole gang jobs at his carnival. What is Scooby's job?

Answer: Barker

The gang's jobs at the carnival are never mentioned again after this episode (in fact, in the first episode of the next series, the gang is looking for jobs).
