Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Cross Chop on a Girafarig?

Answer: Normal effect

Cross Chop is a Fighting-type physical move with great power, decent accuracy, and a high chance for a critical hit. Girafarig, introduced in Generation II, is a Normal and Psychic-type Pokémon that is often underused, although advanced players occasionally used one with stat boosting moves and Baton Pass to give their stronger Pokémon an advantage when sent out. Since Cross Chop is a Fighting-type move, and Fighting-type moves are super-effective against Normal-types and not very effective on Psychic-types, the effect evens out and the result is a neutral attack.
2. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Megahorn on a Mismagius?

Answer: Not very effective

Megahorn is a powerful, specifically the most powerful Bug-type move so far, physical Bug-type move learned by few. Mismagius is a Ghost-type introduced in Generation IV that evolved from Misdreavus, which was introduced in Generation II. Although not very often used, it can be deadly, especially if it has both Mean Look and Perish Song, thus rendering the opponent helpless if the Mismagius stays in the battle until the third turn, where it can be switched out and the opponent will faint. Since a Bug-type move is not very effective against Ghost-types, Megahorn would not be very effective towards a Mismagius.
3. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Selfdestruct on a Frillish?

Answer: No effect

Selfdestruct was introduced along with the first Pokémon games, and is an extremely powerful Normal-type physical move that faints even the user. Frillish is a good Water-type and Ghost-type Pokémon, but its evolution, Jellicent, is extremely useful. With high defense, high HP, large movepool, and a decent ability that sometimes disables moves that attacked it as well, people get frustrated when fighting players with this Pokémon. Because Selfdestruct is a Normal-type move and Frillish is part Ghost-type, it would have absolutely no effect other than knocking the user out.
4. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Twister on a Kingdra?

Answer: Super-effective!

Twister is a weak special Dragon-type move that may cause the foe to flinch. Kingdra is a Water and Dragon-type, making its only weakness other Dragon-type moves. It is used pretty often, although its most notable use in-game is by Clair, the Dragon-type Gym Leader of Johto.

It is her main Pokémon, and very difficult to defeat, with SmokeScreen, Hyper Beam, DragonBreath, and Surf (Dragon Pulse and Hydro Pump in "Pokémon HeartGold" and "Pokémon SoulSilver"). Since Dragon-type moves are super-effective against Dragon-types, Twister would have a powerful effect when used on a Kindgra.
5. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Hurricane on a Masquerain?

Answer: Super-effective!

Hurricane is a very powerful special Flying-type move that may confuse the target. Masquerain is a Bug and Flying-type introduced in Generation III that evolves from Surskit, a Bug and Water-type. Masquerain is pretty weak considering its defenses, but it can do some damage with a very diverse movepool as long as it can survive, and its ability, Intimidate, can help. Because Flying-types are strong against Bug-types, Hurricane would result in a super-effective attack.
6. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Rollout on a Leavanny?

Answer: Super-effective!

Rollout is a physical Rock-type move first brought into the games in Generation II. When used, it will only have a meek 30 power, but will be automatically used for the next four turns, doubling its power each time, unless it misses, in which it will reset and you can use a different move. If Defense Curl is used beforehand, it will double the power again when it is used, effectively letting the move have to most potential power along with Ice Ball. Leavanny is a Pokémon introduced in Generation V with terrible stats most of the way, and the typing of Bug/Grass doesn't help a bit. Due to the fact that Rollout is Rock-type and Rock-types are super-effective against Bug-types, Rollout would be super-effective, and could pack a a painful wallop for such a weak Pokémon.
7. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Zap Cannon on a Flygon?

Answer: No effect

Zap Cannon is an extremely strong Electric-type move that only hits half of the time but will always cause paralysis if it hits. Flygon, contrary to popular belief, is a Dragon and Ground-type. The only thing it has to do with Flying is its ability, Levitate.

It is strong but other Dragon-types are considerably better, such as Dragonite, Salamence, and Garchomp, but it is still useful if you need a Pokémon immune to both Electric and Ground-type moves. And speaking of immunity to Electric-type moves, Flygon's Ground-type would render Zap Cannon harmless.
8. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Astonish on an Umbreon?

Answer: Not very effective

Astonish is a very weak Ghost-type physical move that may make the opponent flinch. Umbreon, introduced as an evolution of Eevee along with Espeon in Generation II, is a Dark-type that can be useful when used wisely, such as with Curse and Payback, as Karen, the Johto Dark-type member of the Elite Four, did in her rematch in "Pokémon HeartGold" and "Pokémon SoulSilver". Ghost-type moves are not very effective on Dark-types, thus making Astonish a bad choice to attack an Umbreon with.
9. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Earth Power on a Bellsprout?

Answer: Normal effective

Earth Power is a moderately powerful special Ground-type move that has a slight chance of lowering the target's special defense, although it falls short to Earthquake. Bellsprout is a weak Grass and Poison-type that is decently strong at its final evolution, Victreebel.

It has access to some nice offensive moves and can hit pretty hard. Due to the fact that Ground-type moves are strong against Poison-types and weak against Grass-types, it would have a normal effect in the end.
10. How effective would it be if a Pokémon used Hydro Pump on a Charizard?

Answer: Super-effective!

Ah, yes, the basics of type advantages and disadvantages. Hydro Pump is a potent Water-type move that can easily defeat many Pokémon, especially Fire-types. Charizard, being the final evolution of the Fire-type starter of Kanto, is used extremely often. Of course, common sense can tell us that Water-types can destroy Fire-types. Your rival was smart when he picked Squirtle after you chose Charmander!
