Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What nature raises a Pokemon Attack stat, but lowers its Special Attack stat?

Answer: Adamant

That's right, Adam Ant was the lead singer of the group, Adam and the Ants!

Pokemon suitable for the Adamant nature are ones that have naturally high Attack stats. Machamp, Salamence and Metagross are all good choices!
2. Which of these natures would be worst suited to a Shuckle?

Answer: Modest

Modest raises a Pokemon's Special Attack, but decreases the Attack stat. It is basically the reverse of the Adamant nature.

All the others are seen as 'defensive' or 'wall' natures. Calm raises Special Defense and Lowers Attack. Bold Raises Physical Defense and lowers Attack. Impish Raises Defense and lowers Special Attack.

Shuckle is completely useless with a Modest nature for two reasons:
1. Shuckle has possibly the worst base Special Attack stat in the game (Even Magikarp are better!)
2. They also do not learn many Special moves, which a Modest nature would benefit, with the exception of Hidden Power (and Mud Slap, if you breed him right).
3. Which of these sets of natures are NOT opposed to each other?

Answer: Brave and Quiet

Brave and Quiet can't be opposites, because they both lower the speed stat! All the others are, though.
Sassy raises Special Defense and Lowers Speed.
Rash raises Special Attack and lowers Special Defense.
Mild raises Special Attack and lowers Physical Defense.

The other natures have the opposite effect of the ones they're paired with.
4. Which of these natures would make the attack Ancientpower most powerful?

Answer: Modest

New to "Pokemon Pearl and Diamond", types are split up into physical and special categories to increase the flexibility of movesets. Ancientpower is now a special move, as it involves no physical contact, meaning that a Modest nature would be best for it. On the other hand, the elemental punches (Fire, Ice and Thunder) are now all physical moves, so Alakazam no longer dominates with them!
5. How do you increase the chances of your Pokemon inheriting natures in the Day Care Center?

Answer: Have the female Pokemon hold an Everstone

Natures are only inherited from the Female Pokemon! (Or the Ditto). Even if you have both Pokemon with the same nature, it won't increase your chances, because only the female Pokemon carry nature inheritance genes. The males handle the moves and Physical features departments. If the female is holding an Everstone, the chances of a nature being carried onto the next generation improves to an amazing 50%!

Just when you thought Everstones were useless...
6. What Pokemon would the Timid nature be best suited to?

Answer: A fast one with Special moves, like Shadow Ball

The Timid nature Raises speed, and lowers attack, meaning the Pokemon would be faster than normal, and have a lower Attack stat than normal.

Some good Pokemon for this nature are Alakazam, Gardevoir, Sceptile and Jolteon.
7. Which of these movesets is best suited to the Jolly nature?

Answer: Endure, Reversal, Megahorn, Earthquake

A Jolly nature raises Speed while lowering Special Attack. Did you manage to place the Pokemon to the movesets?

The Endure, Reversal, Megahorn, Earthquake moveset is a generic Jolly/Adamant Heracross.
The Counter, Mirror Coat, Encore, Destiny Bond moveset is specific to only Wobuffet (Although Smeargle can have it, too).
The Calm Mind, Psychic, Shadow Ball, Energy Ball moveset is most commonly found on a Modest Alakazam, but Gardevoir and Mr. Mime can have it, too.
The Flamethrower, Hydro Pump, Draco Meteor and Hidden Power moveset is sometimes found on a Modest Salamence. Did you get them?
8. What trait do the Jolly and Naive natures have in common?

Answer: High Speed

Naive lowers the Special Defense stat, while Jolly lowers the Special Attack stat. neither of them have any effect on either the Attack or Defense stats, and the only things that can change HP are IV's and EV training, which is too long to explain here...
9. How many natures are there that have no major affect on a Pokemon's stats?

Answer: Five

These natures are: Hardy, Bashful, Docile, Serious and Quirky. None of them make any big difference to any stat, making them good for balance.

Good Pokemon to have these stats are Pokemon that need balanced stats, like starter Pokemon. Meganium, for example, is an excellent choice for any of these natures.
10. How many natures are there in the game?

Answer: 25

There are four natures for each stat (except HP), which makes 20. There are the five natures that don't do anything extreme: Hardy, Bashful, Serious, Docile and Quirky. Here's a list of all the extreme nature Traits.
