In the cities of the world
You know every boy and girl
Goes crazy to the beat of rock and roll
And as the volume's soarin'
All the crowd is roarin'
Let it roll! :-)

Well, we don't care in the least
'Cause our metal is a feast
But there's always someone tryin' to put it down :-(
So we crank the music louder
And our voices turn to power
With a wall of sound we'll blow 'em all away! :-)

When the day is over
I like to ease my mind
By juicin' up my system
With the beat of a heavy kind

I smack a bottle open
I crank the hi-fi high
I'm in a seventh heaven
Ooh, I can touch the sky

I'm in love, so in love
And I can't stop talkin' 'bout my rock forever

It's got the movin' to me
Just that I can't explain
It's like a brilliant sunshine
After standing in the pouring rain

My skin begins to tingle
Ooh, right on down my back
It's really got me fevered
Pounding my senses flat

I'm in love, so in love
And I can't stop talkin' 'bout my rock forever....

Abra-abra-cadabra
I wanna reach out and grab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra

Abracadabra - Steve Miller

This cat really rocked out with Book of Dreams and Fly Like an Eagle in the 70s, so I was somewhat taken aback when he came out with the above tune. Knowing that Black Sabbath had a song called Sabbra Cadabra, what do you suppose was the first thing that popped into my mind the first time I heard this Miller tune? Somewhat of a no-brainer, indeed! :-) What do you suppose was the next thing that popped into my mind when I heard him sing the above chorus? You got it - "Sabbra Sabbra cadabra, I wanna reach out and stab ya!" You guys check this song out and sing along to the chorus like that and see if you can do it over and over without laughing. Bet you can't! :-)

When I am down and oh, my soul so weary,
When troubles come and my heart burdened be,
Then I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains,
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas,
I am strong when I am on your shoulders,
You raise me up to more than I can be.

Though I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me the strength to carry on
'Cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams

Here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
And I've made up my mind, I ain't wastin' no more time....

I've always considered Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra" one of the head-tilting songs. Unexpected. But I do love that band!

Sabbra Sabbra cadabra…..I wanna reach out and stab ya! :-) Yeah, Jen, Steve's Book of Dreams album was one of my favs in my 9th grade year when it first came out. Just loved it. I know what you mean about "head-tilters." That's just like Mr. Roboto from Styx and Radio Ga Ga from Queen - two bands that I will always love. Those two songs really threw my rocker friends and me for a big time loop in high school when those busted out on the scene. We were like "No WAY, man! Get real!" Very shocking material considering the awesome stuff both bands had released before that.

Speaking of Queen, I shall return shortly with some stuff from my favorite tune from them, which was not exactly a runaway choice, believe me. Wait a sec, I think Radio Ga Ga came out after I was out of high school. Maybe well after. I'll have to check up on that...….

Yeah, Radio Goo Goo Ga Ga came out in '84, 4 years after I was done with high school. Guess it must have been Mr. Roboto all by itself that mowed us down like a set of bowling pins. :-p

With all the stuff I like, it doesn't make any sense to me that I am too picky when it comes to music, but maybe I am. The fact is, I doubt that I could list 50 albums that I truly like every song on them. I know I could list 30 because I've done it before, but 50 would probably take me a lot of time and research, provided that I remain honest with myself, and I was quick to discover at an early age that there is no other way I can be. At any rate, A Day at the Races from Queen would make that list by all means. This particular song from Races is very awesome and thought-provoking from start to finish, but this my favorite verse from my favorite of all the songs those outrageously swinging cats ever did...…

Out here on the street, we'd gather and meet
And scuff up the sidewalks with endlessly restless feet
And half of the time we'd broaden our minds
More in the pool hall than we did in the school hall....

Drowse - Queen

All hail the glorious essence of rock and roll! :-)

True, there aren’t too many albums that I could say I love all the way through, with no weaknesses. (Dido’s “No Angel” and A Perfect Circle’s “Thirteenth Step” come to mind) But those are near and dear to my heart and I’m glad I have ‘em!

Wait, you aren't going to say Painkiller from Priest, jen? Just kidding! I'm not familiar with those two you mentioned, but you know what I'm gonna do? I'm going to check both of them out in their entirety. I figure I owe you at least that for showing me how to listen to tunes while doing stuff on my computer, and I'm going to get started on it right now.

First, let me quickly mention something really strange that has blown me away for many years. You know how it is so very common that the first song on an album will be the best one, or certainly one of the best? Well, those wimpy Anthrax guys have an album called Persistence of Time and I love every song on it except for one - the first one. I can't explain why other than to say I just can't relate to it. The point is, I suppose there are other albums here and there that I like all the songs but one, I'm really not totally sure, but I do know this - the thing with the one lone song that I really don't like from Time turning out to be the first song on the album is the only album I have ever heard in my entire life that I can say that about. Pretty weird, ay? Other than that, it is composed of some of the deadliest, most ruthlessly explosive metal known to man. Okay, I'm off to check out that other stuff now. I just hope it isn't that hard rock stuff, jen. That stuff shakes me up pretty badly and scares the crap out of me. :-p

Just rolled up and smoked Thirteenth Step. Pretty rockin' stuff, jen. Easy to see how someone could like every song on that. I was impressed. Bits and pieces here and there kind of reminded me of Alice in Chains, you know, a little bit. Not saying that Circle was copycattin' anyone, that's not what I am saying at all. Just touching on what I would call "vague similarities" for lack of a better term. I'm an old Neanderthal metalhead from back in the days of its very birth, and it's always been hard for me to relate to the alternative stuff, but I'll say one thing about Alice in Chains, I was really kind of neutral about them from their beginning, but the more I listened to them, the more I liked their stuff and the more interesting I found it. Very, very few bands have given me that experience. I have almost always either liked a band or not liked them from the beginning, probably like most people.

Anyway, with that being said, a couple of tunes really reminded me of that Disturbed stuff that Jo likes. The Outsider and Pet. Boss rockers right there. Weak and Powerless, The Noose, Vanishing and Gravity are also pretty awesome. Gravity is way awesome. A little more finesse going on with this stuff than the hellhammer runaway freight train stuff that I normally smoke and have destroyed my mind with over the last 40+ years.

You are quite a youngster over there, aren't you, jen? You stop that! You stop being all full of youth like that over there! :-p Just clowning around with ya. Oh, I meant to also say that bits and pieces of the guitar work kind of reminded me of some of the stuff that Bono from U2 has done, someone I really admire a lot. Okay, I'll quit yakking now. I won't do that any more, I know that's not what this thread is for. From now on, I will just say "comments about so and so will be posted on my Buddy blog." Can't help my brief intros and recaps on the lyrics sometimes, though. Deal?

In the meantime, you guys please carry on with the lyrics by all means! :-)

Aww, you owe me nothing! That was super sweet of you, thanks for giving my stuff a try! Please feel free to express any opinion, negative or not, you’re completely free to do so! A Perfect Circle released Pet on a different album, changed it a bit, and renamed it Counting Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums and I loved it so much. I have quite a few APC songs in soundtracks I’ve made for stories I’ve written. I love them that much! And they inspired me.
I love that Gravity was the last song. Sometimes finales are as important as the first track! Because the first one brings you in, and then… they want to make sure you’re left feeling something. Remembering what you just heard. For me, I always sing, “I choose to liiiiveee…” from Gravity.
Hey, since I created this thread, can I say you’re allowed to write any single thing you want on it? Add your shopping list if you want!!! :)
I dunno about “young,” haha, I feel older than I am, I suppose. Of course, in a few years I’ll think, “Oh, I was so young back then…”

Flirtin' with disaster
Y'all damn sure know what I mean...…

That's from Flirtin' With Disaster by Molly Hatchet. Boss rocker, man! Anyway, flirtin' with disaster is what I feel like I'm doing by telling you this certain thing, Jen. You reminded me of this when you mentioned shopping lists. I'm sure you probably already think I'm a pretty big goofball, but now you are probably gonna think that more than ever before! :-(

Well, looks like it can't be helped. Anyway, back when I was married, my wife told me that this certain cousin of hers used to say "hankiber" instead of "hamburger" when he was a little kid. She and I called it quits almost 30 years ago, but to this day, whenever I write out a grocery list, I always put down "hankiber meat" or "hankiber buns" or "Hankiber Helper" or whatever! :-p I might be nuts, but I'm proud to say that only a true rock and roll outlaw would ever do anything like that. :-)

Haha, I love it! That’s such a cute story. I love little things like that, we have a ton of those in my family. My dad doesn’t type too well on his cell phone, and always ends up typing “habe” instead of “have” and that eventually became “hab”. That was years ago, and every one of us types, “Hab a good day!” We’ve even started saying it too.

Ha! Hab a good day! That's pretty funny, Jen. Your family sounds like they are pretty fun over there. I bet you guys are all a bunch of rock and roll outlaws, aren't you? You stop that! :-p

I tried to smoke that No Angel from Dido but I got a bucket of water thrown in my face when I went to fire it up. Scraped up what I could off the ground and went someplace safe and let it dry out and I smoked that. Seriously, I got those irritating "Unavailable" messages on it, but I'm not giving up yet. Gonna go back when I can and check it out one song at a time if it will let me do that. The little bit I did get to smoke was what I am assuming was the title track. Had the same title. It wasn't a bunch of raging hellfire demonic onslaught so I didn't really understand it. Just kidding! :-p It was pretty groovy. She has a nice voice. Pretty cute, too. Can't believe I had never heard of her before.

So what kind of shocking, controversial music do your rock and roll outlaw parents like? Wait a sec, didn't you tell me something that your mom had, or I'm wondering if I am thinking of someone else. I'll have to go back and read a few posts again. In the meantime, I'm going to take a stab at something they may have liked at one time. This is some stuff that I liked a lot when I was a little kid, but most people my age don't remember it because it was "before their time" as I have been told about stuff like this by people around my age here and there throughout my life, but I am just going on a hunch that your parents are maybe a few years older than me. Maybe a moderately few years or so, I don't know, just a hunch. Anyway, check this bad boy stuff out, yo...…..

I didn't cry
I just stood and watched her say goodbye
She closed the door
Said "I don't want to see you any more"

Things I should have said to her
That maybe would have changed her mind to stay
Things I should have said to her
Like "Girl, I love you, so let love find a way".....

Things I Should Have Said - The Grass Roots

Isn't that sweet and romantic? :-) Of course, I was jamming out to this stuff way before I had any idea what love was all about, but I didn't care, I just liked the groove. You know, I've heard a lot of people throughout my life say that The Monkees were like the American version of the Beatles and what not, but I honestly felt that way about these swinging Grass Roots cats.

Anyway, wanna maybe have a little fun with this stuff, Jen? This might not work out at all like I'm envisioning, but I figure we could give it a shot if you want to. I was thinking you could check out that Grass Roots tune and listen to it a few times until you can remember pieces of it, like say maybe the chorus, and then the next time you are around your folks, maybe you could just kind of casually start singing it, you know, like when you are busy doing something. I don't know, maybe they are not familiar with that stuff at all, but if they are, do you think maybe they would kind of freak out a little bit for you to be singing that stuff? If they did, you could take it from there and go anywhere you wanted to go with it really. You know, something like "What? What are you guys talking about? I have always loved 60s music, it's my favorite decade." Hee hee! I am always thinking of pranks like that to pull on people. :-p You know, just the harmless leg-pulling kind of pranks where everyone involved can get a few laughs out of it. Anyway, just an idea. If you ever do it, be sure to fill me in on the details! :-)
