Well we don't pull no punches, we aim where the crunch is
Bound to do most damage to your brain
If you're looking for it mellow
You're nothing more than yellow
Gonna do it again and again

We'll beat you to submission
So you might as well surrender
You gotta learn your lesson
'Cause there ain't nobody here to defend your heart...

Delivering the Goods - Judas Priest

The quintessential metal anthem for all eternity. Sebastian Bach and Skid Row know what I'm talking about. All hail! :-)

Since I was born they couldn't hold me down
Another misfit kid, another burned out town
I never played by the rules and I never really cared
My nasty reputation takes me everywhere

I look and see it's not only me
So many others have stood where I stand
We are the young, so raise your hands

They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild

We stand and we won't fall
We're one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild

Boss screamin' in my ear about who I'm supposed to be
Getcha a 3-piece Wall Street smile and son, you'll look just like me
I said, hey man, there's somethin' you oughtta know
Well, I tell ya, Park Avenue leads to -
SKID ROW!

I look and see it's not only me
We're standin' tall, ain't never a doubt
We are the young, so SHOUT IT OUT!!

I’m so glad you liked that clip! I’m so tickled you enjoyed it!! I was worried for some reason that you wouldn’t like it. Yeah, Scrubs was a good show, I really liked it when it aired! That scene was one that stuck with me after seeing it!

I’m the same way, I have loads of bands I enjoy, I just don’t happen to own much or any of their music. Funny how that is sometimes! To be completely honest, I don’t know why people put down Creed, same with some other bands. Like… it’s embarrassing for people to admit they like a band, which I think is just silly. If you like a band, you don’t have to shout it from the mountains, just at least appreciate ‘em. I suppose people will find any reason to dislike a band, I have my own list, but at least I have a good reason to!

I was babysitting for my cousins years and years ago and had my personal CD player with me. One of my cousin’s friends (she was about 12) saw I had Creed in there. “You listen to Creed?” she asked, incredulous, kind of laughing. I said I did, and she replied, “I heard they (“stink”).” I asked her if she’d ever heard them play and she admitted she hadn’t. I asked her to judge something only if she gave it a shot first. That was definitely a “teaching moment”. I hope she carried that lesson with her after she left… I even baked these cake-cookie things! (She loved them… hopefully somewhere out there, that now 27-something year old gives bands a shot before labeling them!)

I respect Rob Halford for being hands-on with his music, down to helping writing it. That always adds a lot to how I feel about an artist. I don’t know how all of these musicians do it, pumping out different songs for an extended period of time! Incredible. I hope your quest for finding specific songs written by Rob Halford is fun for you!

Haha, I like that, I’ll just shove the haters into a big mud puddle!

Has there been a band you enjoyed that only released, say, one album then broke up? That’s a heartbreaker.

Rockin' Rob Halford here inviting YOU to come watch me perform with the greatest metal band on earth, coming to a town near YOU, or perhaps the very same town where YOU live.

You know, it has been said that I like to be "hands on" with my music, and I thought it would be nice for me to show YOU my left hand pointing at YOU. That's right, YOU.

Ahyuk! Just showing off my new Robbly photo and pretending that he's the one doing the talking. Hee hee! Took me a while to find a photo that the system would accept. Guess they have to be pretty small.

It's funny that you thought I might not like that clip, Jen. I can't imagine why you would ever think such a thing, other than maybe I might think it was a put down to metal or something, which was a far cry from being the case. I thought that thing was hilarious! :-p I'd love to meet the person or people who wrote that thing. I have daydreamed about being a comedy writer for almost all of my adult life, and that clip is so very much like something I would write. Every last little element of it!

Hmm...that's an interesting thought about awesome rockers who explode onto the scene with a boss-rocking album and then are never heard from again. I'm thinking there has to be somebody like that out there somewhere, but I just can't think of anyone right off the top of my head. Now I'm not going to be able to shake the thought until I have thought of someone. :-p

Just got company. I'll be back to tell you about one band who released a number of albums, but nothing like their first one, in my opinion.

A bunch of rock and roll outlaws call Great White. These cats released some pretty groovy stuff, but nothing like their first album, or it may have been their second, I'm really not sure. I had thought it was their first one for many years, but then I seem to remember coming across this other album they did, maybe from a magazine or a catalog, I can't remember, but I seem to recall that it had an earlier release date.

Anyway, the album I'm talking about is just simply titled "Great White" and it has a solid black cover with "Great White" in white letters in the middle of it. That thing is just packed with serious punch-in-the-mouth rockers. Out of the Night, Stick It, Streetkiller, End of the Line. They also did a cover of an old tune by The Who called Substitute that was pretty boss as well. Anyway, I believe than one came out in '81 or '82, and they just never even came close to the same rumble-fest intensity of that album after that. Maybe it could be that the record company people brainwashed them into making the kind of stuff that was much more listener-friendly and radio-friendly and all that, I really don't know. I believe that has happened with quite a number of rock bands over the decades, whether the record company people were a factor in instigating those changes or not.

I'm still trying to think of a band who literally came out with just one album that rocked my boat until it tipped over and then just fell off the face of the earth, but I still can't think of anyone. I just wish that bands like Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot would explode back onto the scene again. NOT! I love making fun of those clowns. Hee hee! I bet Rob and the Priest Beast are way jealous of both of those bands. I mean, just take a good look at these incredibly deep, intense lyrics that define the true essence of heavy metal...

I wanna rock
ROCK!
I wanna rock
ROCK!

That's from a huge metal masterpiece from Twisted Sister. Timeless metal that encompasses every aspect of the true spirit of heavy metal. NOT! :-p

Aha! Very nice new profile picture! I noticed it right away! And I love how you found such a fitting image! I remember when I was Gold, I would have to search for a picture small enough for FT’s liking. I’m sorry it’s still tricky like that.

It’s just a lack of confidence that made me worried you might not like that video… and I did worry you would take it the wrong way and think it was insulting metal! I never would have shared it if I thought that, and I’m glad you didn’t take it the wrong way!
If that’s the kind of humor you’d use, then I’ll calmly sit here and wait for your first draft! If you want to write some comedy, I wish you would. Or are you like me and struggle with writer’s block?

Oof, that’s a killer. The thought of a record company trying to control an artist (and succeeding) is ridiculous. Creativity should not be muzzled! I just read an article about one of my favorite artists, saying she didn’t like parts of her third album because her record label wanted a certain sound from her… that is such a shame! All about getting more money, of course. Why sign a band in the first place, only to try to change them? Sorry, I’m ranting now.
On the flip side of that, another one of my favorite artists got mad at her record label and wrote a great song about it, so that’s a bright side! Motivation can come from the craziest places.

Haha, I had some fun looking up some pretty bad lyrics. Here are my favorites:

Dr. Dre “Keep Their Headz Ringin”
“I kick plenty of [butt] so call me an astronaut”

Eminem “Love the Way You Lie”
“Now you get to watch her leave out the window
Guess that’s why they call it window pane”

3OH!3 “Blah Blah Blah”
“Zip your lips like a padlock”

Hmmm...someone out there is actually expressing some kind of interest in my comedy writing? Wow, that is very interesting, and such a different change of pace compared to what I'm usually running into with the crying and complaining and me being told all about how I can't say certain things here and blah blah blah and on and on and on. There were so many years - long before I ever came here - when I would have just loved to be able to write funny articles for magazines or maybe even newspapers, or write skits for radio or TV programs, or maybe even be involved as part of the writing teams for TV shows or even be involved in writing certain parts of movies or whatever. The only thing I can do here in that regard is just try to say funny stuff in some of the things that I post, which was exactly what I had in mind when I first became a member, you know, when I wasn't gaming. However, I quickly found out that what I needed to do instead was carefully walk around on eggshells everywhere and be so very careful with every last word I said.

Anyway, I've obviously learned a lot about what I can't say and the topics and players that I need to avoid, because the complaints made directly to me or made to others about me are happening a great deal less often now than they were in the beginning. I really thought my Buddy Holly blog was going to be a great outlet for me to have some laughs with people and it really was that way for quite a while in the beginning, but it has really died off a lot and I think it's just a matter of time before it drops off the first page and gets buried into oblivion. I've pretty much reached the point where I have just simply lost interest in making posts that are totally ignored for the most part. Posts that don't even have anything to do with me and my goofy antics, but that are about rock and roll related news events and articles on the internet and things like that. All of the same can pretty much be said about my Bar and Grill thread as well. Don't get me wrong, it isn't like I'm holding anything against anybody at all, nobody is under any kind of obligation to talk or respond to me, and like they say, nothing lasts forever, right? Anyway, this is just an idea, but maybe you could read the first few pages of my Buddy blog if you want. I really had a lot of fun with that thing when it first started.

I'll tell you another little secret. There is a thread right here on Music Chat called "Favorite Concert Ever??" that's on page 2 now. It's only on post #45 or so, but I think that post #12 on that thing is one of the funniest posts I've ever made here. #14 must evidently be pretty funny as well, because I have friends over here in my personal life who just about fell in the floor when they read those, and the same can be said about a lot of other posts I've made over the last 2 1/2 years. Of course, these are people who have known me personally for years and they pretty much know what I'm about and what I'm not about, so I'm thinking on one hand that maybe that makes some big undeniable difference with everything. On the other hand, I have read things all of my life that has busted me up good that were written by people I have never met, seen or spoken to in my entire life, so I really don't know what to think about it all, Jen, other than the fact that there are just some very, very mysterious things that happen pretty much every day in this life.

I meant to mention that when I made that post #12 on that Best Concert Ever thread, I was going under the name "metalmad." I had gone gold very shortly after that and I couldn't get back into the system. Looking back, I believe I was not clicking onto the right link that I should have been clicking on. I kept getting a message saying "that player already exists" or something like that. Unfortunately, I just didn't know what the heck I was doing and I thought, okay, if I can't be that same player I was before, then I'll just be someone else, and I came in under a different name. The birth of Sad Wings of By God Heavy Metal Destiny! :-p

Anyway, I had told a few people what happened and someone told me to be careful because the thing with one person playing under two different names was a huge no-no and I could get permanently banned if that's what they thought I was trying to do and this and that. Well, then I started scrambling around trying to let it be known to the right people what the story was with the name change and all that. Ha! It was a big mess for a minute there but it all got worked out. One very nice Moderator told me not to worry about it and that I was not the first person that had happened to, which really made me feel a lot better and a lot more at ease.

Anyway, I'd really love it if you read those two posts on that thread and maybe even some of my Buddy blog if you want, Jen. Oh, there's also some funny "concert" clips on that Concert thread as well. Stuff that I really think may possibly have been the very birth of heavy metal, but I'll just let you be the judge of that. In the meantime, I'm gonna go look up The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and give them a listen to. Never heard of them and I can't just walk away from someone with a name like that without checking them out. :-p

Woops, almost forgot, this is just a little something we love to do down here in Oklahoma.....

My favourite lyrics are these, by David Bowie, from Changes

And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through...

Wow, that is very cool, Miss Cirrus. I bet I have heard that song hundreds of times on Classic Rock radio stations (my favorite kind of radio station as far as radio stations go) over the last 40 years, well, probably getting to be closer to 50 now, and I guess I just never paid that much attention to the words. That guy certainly made a lot of great music throughout his career.

Hey, Jen, those Apparatus guys are pretty electric and rocking. Seems to be a little bit heavy on the punkish side for my taste, but nothing wrong with that. I'm sure they must have a lot of fans. If they are still together I hope they continue to be successful.

My friend, you’re talking to someone with very sore feet… the eggshells can get painful after a while, as you well know. I get that comedy is subjective, but sometimes it’s just… come on! Anyone can take offense to almost anything a stranger says, be it little or small, real or not, but the bigger person doesn’t make a big deal out of it. In my opinion, if you’re offended by something, just ignore it and perhaps don’t check out a certain board/blog/etc.
It’s true I’m the “avoid confrontation” kind of person, too, but I don’t see the reason to cause a big stink about some things. Then again, I’m also one of those people who don’t have too much time on their hands…

Yes! Your Buddy Holly blog! If someone took issue with what you said, why couldn’t they have just left it alone and chosen not to look at it again? To complain about it seems like just a waste of a moderator’s time. Oof, I could go on and on about the limits here. I’ve had posts removed and I still don’t know why, because all I was doing was defending someone.
Remember sectant? He left here because he was tired of getting scolded and grew too paranoid for his comfort about what he was posting. At least, that was part of it. He was a good participant on the Music boards and to make a member feel so… I don’t know, excluded seems like it’d be the opposite of what the mods would want to be doing.
I’m truly sorry the same has happened to you. Maybe there should be a “Funtrivia For Adults or Kids With a Good Sense of Humor” website for us. Also, in this day and age, I feel like if someone sees a post longer than a few sentences they lose interest and scan over it or skip it entirely. Silly, I know, but people seem to want it short and sweet. What’s this world coming to?

Haha, thanks for pointing me to your post about that insane Sissies/Stagedork concert! I think my favorite part was about the stage itself: “Stagedork tore about half of it down just trying to look all cool and bad”. The Sissies had a solid concert (I was one of the people who fell asleep so I missed Stagedork), but Running Scared really stole the show when they came to my town a few years back. :p
Haha, classic Tommy Boy! Honestly, not lying here, when I read metalmad’s post about Best Concert Ever and the cow tipping, I was going to send you the video of Chris Farley dancing under the hose! I enjoy that movie and loved Chris Farley. “Brothers don’t shake hands, brothers gotta hug!”

Oh yes, there have been people here who have snuck back onto the site in hopes of continuing their quest to troll, but you aren’t like that, and I’m glad there was a kind moderator to let you know all was well. I enjoy stories like that.
I really like the moderators (like kyleisalive), I know it can’t be easy to be one, but sometimes I wonder if even they get sick of having to keep the peace.

Hey, thanks for checking out Red Jumpsuit Apparatus! My cousin loved them and got me into them too. The singer can be a screamer, his voice is a little odd, but I do enjoy the band. I was surprised at the amount of lyrics I have written down from them… at least three come to mind, which is impressive for one band.
I’ll try to read more of your blog today, things are a little nuts after the holiday—I appreciate that last post about the defenders of freedom. Home of the free because of the brave!

Hmm...I guess I don't remember sectant. That would be a really great idea to have a Fun Trivia for Adults. It would probably never work, the people who run things around here probably have their hands full enough as it is, so they would probably have to recruit a whole new set of people and all that. Still a great idea.

Tommy Boy! I just loved that movie. Probably my favorite Chris Farley movie. I could never get tired of watching that one! It's awful how soon that guy was taken away from us.

Man, I really need to get some sleep. Can't even think of anything to clown around about if that tells you anything! Just wanted to pop in for a bit before I hit the sack for a little while and then get up and dive into my daily Duels.

Hey, Jen, I know it's still a ways off, but it's creeping up on another season of thumpity-bumpity football action, and you know my Buddy blog is the place to be for all the lively football chat and live reports from all over the country from Kommentator Kev! :-) In the meantime, here's a good-time rocker as a tribute to the upcoming season....

24 blue! 24 blue!
Hut! Hut! Hut!!
Lookout honey, here we come!
Hey hey!

Crank Me Up - Bullet Boys

This song is really not about football, I just like that first verse! People ask me here and there how I am so young-looking for my age, and truthfully, the reason is because of stuff just like this. I'm in love, so in love, and I can't stop talkin' 'bout my rock forever! :-) Great song to go along with a bit of speedy driving on a nice stretch of highway, like a jillion other songs, but everyone please do buckle up and drive safely. I'm sure all of you already know that. Other than that, slam that hammer down and crank it up! :-)

Here's that boss-rockin' Bullet Boys tune. For those of you who have never heard this, put a little spice in your life if you are able to do this, and take your computer device on a cruise out on the open highway where you can maybe go a little bit over the speed limit and just have a little fun with this on your first listen. If you've heard this before, well, hey, nothing says you can't do it anyway. Rock and roll, man! :-)

Sigh… drugs have taken so much talent away from this world. Right now I’m referring to Chris Farley but the list of the lives taken from us for that reason is way too long.

This is always a hard time of the year for me sports-wise… no football! At least I have baseball right now, although my team (Detroit Tigers) appear to enjoy losing, haha. I had four fantasy football teams last year and it was *too* much fun! Man, I can’t wait for football!

Crank me Up was definitely high-energy! (haha, I listened to it at work, so there was unfortunately no cruising going on, but I was picturing it in my head!)

Glad you liked Crank Me Up, Jen, it's definitely a boss-rocking punch in the head. :-)

You know, gang, it's really amazing how sometimes changing one single word in a song can make a big difference in your musical enjoyment, and it doesn't even have to be a radical change, you can change the one word with another word that rhymes with it and really add a lot of pleasure and amusement to your day. A great example would be I'm Down by the Beatles, and the most amazing thing to me about this particular example is that I've heard this song so very many times over the course of what has got to be close to 50 years now, and this simple little one-word change just popped into my head a couple of weeks ago. I don't know where it came from, it just popped into my head from out of nowhere, and I don't know why on God's green earth that I didn't think of it a long time ago.

Anyway, don't wait for this thing to get played on your favorite oldies station, go ahead and dial it up on your computer and sing along with it like this...….

Ahem....

You tell lies thinkin' I can't see
You can't cry 'cause you're laughin' at me
I'm clown
(I'm really clown)
I'm clown
(Clown on the ground)
I'm clown
(I'm really clown)

How can you laugh
When you know I'm clown? :-(
How can you laugh
When you know I'm clown? :-(

Ahyuk! Life really is a barrel of laughs if you know where to look for it. Come getcha some! :-)
