I don't know, Jen, I don't think "crafty" was the word most people had in mind when that story broke. :-p

Ted Nugent may have been the rock and roll outlaw who invented the middle finger, but these cats defined just exactly what that means like no other band in the history of rock and roll, because the odds were stacked so heavily against them from the very beginning. It's true that the odds are against anyone succeeding in this business, but it stood to a considerably higher degree with these guys and they did what they had to do anyway without batting an eye. All hail! :-)

Everyone who wins in the great escape
Leaves a thousand more who suffer in their wake

I don't talk about it but that's alright
Table's turned now there's a revenge in sight
If it takes forever, babe, I tell ya, I can wait
Send them screaming back through their hell's own gate.

Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest

This is the one with You've Got Another Thing Comin' on it, Jen. :-)

Just got off the phone with the Pentagon. They want me to dedicate a song to all the freedom-hating terrorists crawling around out there but they didn't really know which one. Told them I knew the perfect one. Embrace each day, terrorists, it just may be your last. Here's one just for you from good ol' Uncle Sam and our partners across the Atlantic.....

Whipcrack
Stings the sky
Don't mess with me, I'm danger
The meanest one alive

Earthquake
Breaks the Richter scale
The more that you resist
The more the pain you'll feel

I'm blazing onto glory
There's thunder in my veins
And nothing stands before me
Forever I'll remain

Hard as iron
Sharp as steel
Stop for no man
You better beg and kneel

Untouched
Cold as ICE
I'll turn your blood to water
Strangle in my vice

Shock waves
Bones to DUST
You're messin' with a minefield
So expect the worst

I'm blazing on to glory
There's thunder in my veins
And nothing stands before me
Forever I'll remain

Hard as iron
Sharp as steel
Stop for no man
You better beg and kneel

As I destroy
Last thing you'll hear me cry
Is victory
Is victory...

Hard as Iron - Judas Priest

You can bank on it.

Jen, here's something just for you. Just thought you might find it interesting. You might also like to take a peek at the first few dozen or so brief comments listed below the video. Most of these people actually know what they are talking about. I was quite shocked!

Thanks for sharing! Made me smile when she admitted she thought one of the guitarists would be the one to start singing!

I liked how she called him a puppeteer of the stage and the audience, like he is in complete control. That vibrato! He makes it sound so easy, not being content with straight singing "Diamonds and rust," adding all of that vibrato.

I'm sure it was nice hearing someone praise a singer you enjoy so much!

It's madness
The sun don't shine
On the sea of madness
There ain't no wind to fill your sail
Madness
When all you see can only bring you sadness
On toward the sea we go.....

Sea of Madness - Iron Maiden

Jen, you should check out that part of this tune. You don't have to listen to the whole thing, just dial it up and fast forward to 2:55. Bet you would have never figured these guys would even be capable of making sounds like that. :-)

What a bold and daring music lover you are to dare look Iron Maiden straight in the eye like that, Jen. :-) Here's a lesser known Skynyrd song you might like.....

New York City is a thousand miles away
And if you ask me, I'll tell you that's okay
Now I'm not tryin' to put the Big Apple down
'Cause they don't need a man like me in town

I pick cotton down on the Dixie line
I work all day tryin' to make a dime
But that's alright, that's okay by me
'Cause that's the way that it was meant to be

Big city, hard times don't bother me
I'm a country boy, I'm as happy as I can be

I don't like smoke chokin' up my air
And some of those city folks, well, they don't care
I don't like cars buzzin' around
I don't even want a piece of concrete in my town

I like sunshine, fresh clean air
Makes me feel like you wouldn't care
But that's all right, each to his own
But one smell from the city and this country boy is gone

Big city, hard times don't bother me
I'm a country boy, I'm as happy as I can be

Well, I don't want to even read about it.....

I'm a Country Boy - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Afraid to know what lies behind the stare...

Soon I discovered that this rock thing was true
Jerry Lee Lewis was the devil
Jesus was an architect previous to his career as a prophet
All of a sudden I found myself in love with the world
So there was only one thing that I could do
Was ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long.....

Overcoming tyranny to desecrate the entity
Satanical
Laying waste this sick disease
That crippled, maimed, fell to our knees
Like Jericho

Piles of skulls crunched under foot
Torched remains are crying out
Satanical
Rising up to purge and scourge the killing of our paradise
Like Jericho....

Golgotha - Halford

Not saying that you feed on this stuff like Godzilla strolling through a power plant, Jen, but just for the cheery, happy-go-lucky fun of it, if you'd like to hear the kind of raging hellfire demonic onslaught that makes the most evil-sounding thing that Ozzy ever did sound like Tiptoe Through the Tulips by Tiny Tim, this is it right here. Okay, maybe that comparison is a bit of an exaggeration, but it really does sound more evil than anything Ozzy ever did, and I've heard every last sound that maniac ever had anything to do with.

Anyway, it's right at 2:05 into the song when this part will hit you like a hellhammer runaway freight train barreling down on you at, oh, I don't know, I'd say probably between 350 and 380 m.p.h., and there is no place to run to get away from it, believe me. Lots of stuff will grab you by the throat, but when this one does it from right out of nowhere, your feet'll come off the floor a good three or four feet about half a second before you take the wall out behind you. It plays absolutely no games whatsoever. Anyway, you'll get a live video that comes up first when you enter this, but scroll down right under it to the image of the album cover to Crucible - it's a Celtic cross with "Halford" right across the middle of it. The first time I heard this thing I got so scared I wet my pants. :-(

That was when I got the nickname Tinkle Pants and I was even thinking about naming my band Tinkle Pants before we decided on Stagedork. We might have to cut a song or maybe even an album with that name. Billboard's #1 album of the week: Tinkle Pants by Stagedork. Ha! Hope nobody beats us to it! :-)

Thanks for warning me about Golgotha... I made sure I went to the bathroom before listening :)
Is Halford, I assume, a band he created on the side, or maybe after Judas Priest?

The guitars reminded me just a little of this. This is a song called “Watch Your Words” by Alter Bridge. You don’t have to listen to it (although it rocks!) but it seemed a little in the same vein as Golgotha. Just the first 40 seconds or so. Not as epic or heavy, of course, I wouldn’t flat-out compare the two, but just a little alike.

Hey, you are right about those two tunes kind of sounding a little similar with that type of heavy guitar sound on both of them, Jen. I had never heard of Alter Bridge before, and I was thinking that it reminded me of some of the stuff Creed did. I looked them up and discovered that a couple of them came from Creed. Don't know why I had never heard of them until now, I heard about Creed left and right back when they were together.

So you played it safe and went to the bathroom before you cranked up that explosive demonic rage from the Metal God, ay? Hee hee! You are just about as silly as I am, and that's pretty silly! :-p

Yeah, Rockin' Rob took a break from the holy, sacred, almighty Priest Beast from '92 to '01. He first formed a band called Fight and they did I believe three albums from '92 to '95. I really like the first one - War of Words. You should check out the video of Nailed to the Gun from that album sometime. Serious heavy metal beatdown. "nailed2gun" is my password on another website. :-p

Anyway, then the maniac formed a band called 2wo and did one album with them in '98. It's that stuff they call industrial metal, which I don't really care all that much for. After that is when he went solo under the name Halford and released a lot of awesome stuff. Did 7 albums with those guys from 2000 to 2010, all of them just packed with awesome tuneage. Explosive, brutal world class heavy metal indeed. Very much worth checking out.

By the way, when you've got a minute, check out post #3102 on the "What Are You Listening to Right Now?" thread. :-p

I am unabashedly not ashamed to admit I’m a Creed fan. So many people rag on them, and that’s fine, that’s their prerogative, but Creed represented one of those bands I found on my own, and not part of the large music I’d grown up listening to. Bands like Linkin Park, Creed, Dido, etc. all gave me something new and I did a lot of growing up listening to them. Yes! Alter Bridge has every original member of Creed (minus Scott Stapp, the singer)! Well done!

Wow! Rob Halford has released so much music! Do you know how much of that he wrote? Is he a songwriter (I’m embarrassed that I don’t even know that)? I’m impressed he has released so much in such a short span of time… three albums with Fight in three years! Seven with Halford in ten years! I’m jealous of his fans… way too many of my favorite artists go years and years between albums.

“Nailed to the Gun” was some good speed metal! The backup singer sounded like a werewolf singing (and I find that a good thing, haha, cool)!

This is me (pay attention to the driver) when people try to talk over my music (starts 26 seconds in):

I just love his sad look when JD (the passenger) shuts his music off. Then I feel like him again when he gets so into it!

Ha! That clip was hilarious, Jen. Busted me up pretty good! I loved it when the driver had JD take the wheel so he could air drum out for a few seconds and then he just flings JD's hands back off the wheel. I've never seen a single one of those shows but you have made me want to start checking that stuff out with that clip. I didn't realize that show was anything like that or I would have probably been watching it a long time ago! That clip is about to be added to my favorite videos list, by the way. :-) God, I just can't seem to stop laughing about that thing!

I honestly never knew anything about people ragging on Creed. For what reasons exactly? I'm very curious about that. They have always captured my attention and my interest right from the very first time I ever heard anything by them. I've never bought any of their stuff but that doesn't really mean anything one way or the other. There are tons and tons of bands that I really like a lot that I don't have any of their stuff in my collection. I guess it shouldn't come as any kind of surprise to me about people ragging on Creed. As long as something has electric guitars in it, that's it, that's all it takes for people to rag and whine and get their sad little tummy aches on, and a lot of the time it doesn't even take that. I'm going to have to start checking out their tunes and videos when I can and see if any of them can make their way over to my faves list. I am pretty confident that some of it is bound to. If they are noisy enough for people to complain about it, I'm sure I've got to like it to some degree! :-)

You know, from what I can recall, it seems the overwhelmingly vast majority of Priest's songs are credited to "Tipton/Halford/Downing" with Tipton and Downing being their two guitarists, both of whom I believe are retired now. As for Rob's solo stuff, Rob seems to be the one who is credited first on most of it, but there are also just about always other writers involved as well. I honestly don't know if that cat has a single song that he has written entirely by himself. I Googled "songs written by Rob Halford alone" and it gave me a list of 39 tunes, but it also said "songs written or co-written by Rob Halford" but it gave no indication which ones are what. Didn't notice any of them being from Fight or from his solo stuff, just all Priest, and 39 songs is just a drop in the bucket from all the tunes those almighty warlords released, so now this has all really aroused my curiosity. I wrote down some of those tunes and I'll be looking them up later one at a time to just take a little peek at who is credited for writing them. But in summary, yeah, Rob seems to be a co-writer on pretty much everything he's ever done.

I wouldn't be all that concerned about the fact that a lot of really boss-rocking bands sometimes take quite a few years between album releases. I suppose there would have to be so very, very many different factors involved with that. Besides all that, you shouldn't be jealous of Rob's fans, you should just simply become one of them, and you should push anyone and everyone down into a big mud puddle who gets in your way. :-)
