Interesting, would that lineup be your ultimate rock band?

(side note: there was this fun game a while ago called Rock Band where you went through different scenarios and you had to hire different musicians. Sometimes they clashed, like if you hired a pop singer and a heavy metal guitarist, and sometimes you had to send them on a “vacation” where they would “rehab” from all of their hard work if you catch my drift. It was a cute little game)

Hey, Jen, nice to see you, I have really been wondering about you. You don't have to explain anything, of course, I'm sure you have just been busy.

Hmmm...I don't know if I would call those guys the "ultimate" rock band, but I bet they would be pretty noisy. :-p All that screaming and yelling and all that long-haired guitar playing going on. When it comes right down to it, I really don't think there could ever be such a thing as the "ultimate" rock band. There's just way too much talent out there for that to ever happen. I think the chemistry between the band members plays a big part in what they are going to sound like. Then it really comes down to just a matter of opinion. I bet there is no band on the face of the earth that anyone can name that doesn't have at least one fan who will insist that that particular band is the best rock band on earth and they just blow everybody else to smithereens and blah blah.

One thing is for sure, though. I was just thinking about this the other day. There are far more "certified experts" on the topic of music than any other topic under the sun. Know what I mean? They are everywhere like a pandemic. It's really pretty amusing when you think about it!

So are you all geared up for football season, yo? I hope your team or teams do well this year. I was joking around on one of these threads recently about how I couldn't wait to see all the new dance routines from all the NFL teams this season. :-p

I love Aimee Mann. I woke up today singing this song -- no clue why:

"I'm so happy the band's doing well. By the way, what's with the hair? Is that part of the new image?"

"You know this little hobby of yours has gone too far. Why can't you for once do something for ME??

"Like what?"

"Voices Carry" -- 'Til Tuesday

"In the dark, I'd like to read his mind
But I'm frightened of the things I might find
Oh, there must be something he's thinking of
To tear him away-ay-ay
When I tell him that I'm falling in love
Why does he say-ay-ay

Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry

Oh! Oh!

I try so hard not to get upset
Because I know all the trouble I'll get
Oh, he tells me tears are something to hide
And something to fear-eh-eh
And I try so hard to keep it inside
So no one can hear

Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry

Oh! Oh!

He wants me, but only part of the time
He wants me, if he can keep me in line

Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Oh oh oh hush, sh*t up now, voices carry

Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, darling, she might overhear
Hush -- voices carry

He said sh*t up -- he said sh*t up
Oh God, can't you keep it down
Voices carry

Hush hush, voices carry
I wish he would let me go..."

I’m sorry, sadwings, you were right, I’ve been pretty busy.

I could not agree more with what you said about an “ultimate” rock band. Chemistry is so important and just because you have a great bass guitarist with a great drummer, doesn’t mean they’d get along or mesh well. Funny how you came to that conclusion. It really is a matter of opinion and really… I’m happy with where guys are now!

Elle... thanks for sharing! Those are some good lyrics. And thank you too, that's one of those songs I've heard over the years here and there without knowing who sings it.

Yeah, Elle, that's a pretty cool song. There is something very captivating about it.

You know, Jen, I was going to mention something about the ultimate band thing. Not saying that either of these combos would be the ultimate band or anything of the kind, but I have wondered over the years what Iron Maiden might have sounded like with Rob Halford singing, and I have also wondered what the Priest Beast may have sounded like with Steve Harris, the bass player for Maiden. Not saying any one guy is better than another guy, I have just always wondered what those matchups may have possibly sounded like. I bet it would have punched people in the head pretty hard! :-)

Sadwings, when I think about things like that, I have to hope that one day we’ll find out. My hope is that in heaven I can find answers to a lot of things I’ve been curious about! Or family members will come up to me and say something like, “You have to listen to Jim Morrison singing with this other band. It’s amazing!”

(this is not me scolding sadwings for wondering things… I do too! This was just next up on my list of favorite lyrics, haha, random timing)

Hee hee! You are so silly, Jen. :-p The thought of you "scolding" me would never have even come into my mind from reading those last lyrics.

Man, you really touched on a very, very fascinating subject for me - basically what heaven will be like and just exactly what knowledge will be imparted to us - knowledge that there will be no waiting time for. Every last tiny little piece of knowledge that we are meant to know will be imparted to us instantly - in the blink of an eye. Notice I said "what we are meant to know." I believe there will be certain things that we and not even the angels will ever know for all eternity.

I'll let you in on something else as well, Jen. Because of certain things I learned from a very deep and detailed regiment of studies that I had partaken in about 20 years ago - as in several hours a day, just about every single day for a couple of months or so - I honestly with all my heart and soul believe that none of us are going to have the tiniest little shred of memory whatsoever of our lives here on this earth. Absolute zero. Nothing. When we see our loved ones - our parents and siblings and kids and grandparents and everyone we shared our lives with - yes, we will recognize them instantly, but there will be absolutely no memories of what we shared with them here on this earth. I know how very hard that has to be for anyone at all to understand, believe me. The whole concept of it blows my mind to this day, but you know what? All of it makes perfect sense when you really think about it deeply enough. What it all comes down to is that there is just simply no place in heaven for worldly thoughts. Period. None. Virtually non-existent in the slightest form whatsoever. We will all become one with the Holy Spirit, and it is such an indescribably different realm than the one we live in now. The comforting thing about all of that is, we won't have the slightest desire to know those things. None of us. The old world will pass away and the new one will begin. There is really nothing more I can add to that particular thought.

Anyway, I suppose I should wrap this up for now before I get carried away. :-p

Jen, I thought of one thing I might add to my last post. Something I know you already know, but something you could maybe really think about and focus on for a bit in relation to what heaven will be like. A thought - any thought whatsoever - is the same thing as a fertile seed.

I'm not pointing at any post or anyone in particular but this is just a reminder that references to religion are against chat board rules so please be careful about what you post on this and other boards.

Freedom, taken for granted
'Cause we don't know what oppression means
Freedom, taken for granted
By the leaders who would crush the dream

A crack, exposing human rights
Light against a granite sky
A crack, exposing human rights
A FIRE BURNS

For the freedom, for the freedom
For the freedom never given but taken
For the freedom
Die for the reason
One man stands

Hard as he waits for freedom's hand
A unified voice for freedom of choice
One man stands for life

He'll give his
Would you give yours to fight for a cause?
One man stands

And the wall cracks, and the wall cracks
And the wall cracks, and the walls come crumbling down...
