Subject: Headbanger's Ball Revisited

Posted by: sadwings
Date: Aug 27 19

Anybody remember Headbanger's Ball on MTV in the 80s and 90s? This is the place to be if you like that kind of noisy stuff. Thought I'd throw a bunch of boss-rocking videos from that era, and I'm sure many from outside that era, and please do feel free to contribute. If it isn't exactly classified as metal or if you aren't really sure, don't worry about it. As long as it rocks a little bit on the harder side. Anything with bands performing on stage or anywhere else along with out of control fans stage diving and crowd surfing is great, but this is certainly not intended to be limited to that. Just grab a fistful of metal and see if you can punch my lights out with it. :-)

You guys know I've gotta start out with the Priest Beast, right? Here's one of the deadliest heavy metal beatdowns those guys ever delivered.

Through boiling clouds of thunder
Blasting bolts of steel
Evil's going under deadly wheels....

Keep in mind that your welcome contributions don't necessarily have to be raging hellfire demonic onslaught. I've got nothing against melody. This one is a great example of what I'm talking about.

Here's another great example of the same thing, along with one that doesn't necessarily have to show any band members or screaming fans at all. Feel free to look at this thing with the volume turned down if you like. Lots and lots of really awesome and beautiful shots of the NYC area in this one.

I'm honestly not sure if these next guys would technically even be classified as heavy metal, I'm thinking probably more like hard rock, but they are rock and roll legends and this is a really fun video. Feel free to make comments even if you don't have a video to post. Guess I should have included that in the thread description. In the meantime, let's rock and roll! :-)

I'll be the first to admit that sometimes rock and roll just has a bad influence on some people. We have ourselves a little out of control trouble maker in a huge mask in this next video who seems to think it's cool to spray paint things and destroy property. Sooner or later people like that always make a mistake, and this joker made his when he pulls off his mask and reveals his identity for the whole world to see at the very end of the video. Let's do what we need to do and report this maniac to the authorities so we can get this guy arrested and behind bars where he belongs.

We haven't had any stage diving and crowd surfing fun yet, have we? Well, this next video is just loaded with it, and what do you know, this also happens to be a remake of a very popular Chuck Berry song.

Remember the crazy trouble maker in the huge mask a couple of videos back? Well, that maniac is evidently a bigger rock and roll outlaw than I had thought. Here is film footage clearly showing his out of control antics, including actually having the nerve to throw buckets of water on innocent people. I will admit, sometimes rock and roll can be a dangerous thing indeed.

No doubt we live in a world that has gone absolutely stark raving mad all because of rock and roll, and the madness continues right here in Headbanger's Ball Revisited. Check out the drummer in this next video and see if he might resemble a very well known and loved rock and roll icon. Maybe it's just the glasses, I don't know, but I would Imagine many of you will see the resemblance .https://tinyurl.com/y27w3wm3

This rock and roll stuff really has gotten totally out of control. There's just no place to run and hide from it. Sooner or later it will find you. Not only did these guys write a song about it, they actually had the nerve to perform it live right in the faces of thousands of maniacs....

Here's one for my pal Elle, aka Blackdresss. She's all goo goo over the studly lead singer guy. Hee hee! The cat's out of the bag now, Elle! :-p This swinging cat really is one of the most boss-rockin' vocalists in rock and roll history. This one will punch you square in the grill, so be careful. Rock and roll isn't a play toy, boys and girls.

Been playing these things in groups of three and then kicking back for a while to let others join in on the fun if it suits them. Everybody is certainly welcome. No need to worry at all whether or not I'm going to like it or whether or not I think it rocks hard enough. This thing isn't about me, it's about the music and the spirit of rock and roll.

Anyway, I honestly don't know where these next rockin' cats got their name, and I never really would have figured a band with a name like theirs could rock like they do, but they do rock indeed and I have videotaped evidence right here. Hey, Jo, are you out there? Who is that one long-haired rock and roller guy that those girls run to at the tail end of this video, do you know?

Dude! I swear, I am going to watch and listen to all these videos, but I have to wait another... counting...17 minutes until this day ends! But I'm coming, I promise!

Oh yes! You've got a Skid Row video??? Wait for me, wait for me! I'm going to watch and listen to all of them! But I might have to watch that one first... First you hit me with Heart, and now this? You're wreaking havoc on my blood pressure!

I swear, that is the most beautiful man on the planet...

I love how this video has two hard guitar bangs, and then it's just right into the song. BAM! SLAM!

"My nasty reputation takes me everywhere!" I wanted to put this in my profile, but I was a tad concerned it might be misinterpreted.

"Well I tell ya Park Avenue leads to... Skid Row!"

"They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild!

We stand and we won't fall
We're one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild!"

I also love these lyrics from "Piece Of Me" and thought about putting them in my profile, but same concern:

"Sleazin' in the city
You know I'm lookin' for a fight
I got my heels and lookin' pretty
On a Saturday night, night, night!"

Along with:

"I got nasty, nasty habits!
And that's all she's gonna get from me!"

They just don't write them like this anymore, unfortunately.

Somebody posted on my outrageously out of control music thread! :-) Look, everybody, it's the same pal I was just talking about. Thanks for stopping by, Elle. Explosive punch-in-the-mouth rock and roll is happening all over the place around here!

Speaking of that, we can't really have a proper rock and roll party without stuff like this next tune. Pretty hard to get more rocky and rolly than this next one, boys and girls...

Hey, no problem! Happy to oblige and be here, watching and listening!

But I have to admit something, and you're going to be so ashamed of me... I really have no idea what "Headbangers Ball" is. I mean, I can guess, but I've never seen it or watched it, nor have I partaken of it or whatever you do with it.

But if it's approved by you and your friend Troy, count me in. I am here to watch and listen and learn! I need to LEARN!

But wait! I have to play a couple of Duels first. We've got LOST and Shania Twain and I don't remember what else, but I should leap on in now for a couple of those.

I am pretty much played out, and I'm ready to kick back and watch videos, while Tory is helping me type (if only he were better at trivia, but sadly, he kind of stinks,) and I'm here to LEARN! I need to LEARN! Just hold on one little second while I at least play LOST. I could. go. all. the. WAY! with that topic.

Okay, I'm ready to rock out. Starting at the top, since I've already watched "Youth Gone Wild," but that doesn't mean I'm not going to watch it again!

I'll let you know what I think about every last one of them, dude. Because... and say it with me... I need to LEARN!

WOW...

Okay, brace yourself, but while that first visual video made my eyes fritz out, and the audio scared the hell out of my kitties, I LOVED it! I know, I know, I've continually said I do not like Judas Priest or Rob Halford, but I really, really loved "Painkiller." I'm as shocked as you are.

His voice is really powerful, and I seriously love his lower register -- just beautiful. Nice vibrato, too!

I may need to stare at a blank wall for awhile, but it was worth it!

What is happening to me???

Give me a minute or two to move on to the next one.

Okay, brace again...

Much like your first Judas Priest video, the flashing fritzed out my eyes, and when the song started, it freaked out my kitties just one more time (and I've got headphones!,) and while I've never heard of Helmet, so I've never heard the song "Unsung," I really, really like it! I'd like more Helmet, and I don't know if that's a them or a him or just what it is, but I like it!

What is happening to me?
