Corner Gas - Season 1
Lacey. Seems she had an ulterior motive in going over to help Brent babysit! Thanks for playing!
No. The show ends after Tanner is finally sleeping, and Hank arrives and is surprised to find Brent uninjured. Brent tries to take credit, but Lacey tells Hank that Brent phoned his Mommy. "You mean Wanda?" She replies that he phoned his OWN Mommy, Emma, and Hank reveals that Lacey must therefore have won the bet.
Rugby. Hank thought it was soccer.
A woman at the gas station is thinking of buying some licorice at the counter. What does Oscar do? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Yells at her and tells her to leave. Oscar also yells at a couple who are looking at magazines. I think he is my favourite cranky character of all time!
The other residents of Dog River have had traumatic experiences babysitting Wanda's son. What happened to Hank? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Tied to a recliner directly under a bottomless bird cage. The lasting effects of this experience are apparent when Hank becomes distraught seeing someone pour mayonnaise out of a squeeze bottle.
"You're like Yoda.". Emma replied, in her typical serious style, "I don't know what that means."
Brent ends up phoning his mother Emma for help babysitting. She arrives to find Brent and Lacey hiding under a table, barricaded with pillows. Emma quickly gets the child's cooperation and sends him off to bed. According to Emma, what are her two tricks for dealing with children? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Use their full name, and open-ended threats. Using their full name "gets their attention". Open-ended threats such as "I'm coming up there, and I won't be coming empty-handed" and "If I have to come in there you're not going to like what happens" work, because according to Emma a child's imagination is a child's greatest strength and also their weakness. They will fill in the blank with the most awful thing they can think of.
What is the title of the library book about child psychology that Brent borrows from the library? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Groovy Parents, Cool Kids. By Dr Spearmint Fir, who gives hippie-era advice on things like respecting the child's "headspace"... The librarian insists that Brent whisper, even though they are the only two people in the library. When he whispers that he is looking for a book on child psychology, she is puzzled and asks "Chives all over me?"
While Brent is babysitting, his father Oscar is left in charge of the gas station. Oscar insists everything will be fine, and Brent mentioned something that happened 7 times during the last 35 years when Oscar worked there. What happened 7 times? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Fires. The ever-crotchety Oscar insists "That wasn't my fault!" Later, while he is alone in the station, he begins playing with a lighter and drops it, starting another small fire (which luckily he was able to put out quickly). Again he says "That wasn't my fault!"
Hank is eventually overcome with concern for Brent's safety, and leaves the bar to go and help him. He reuturns a few seconds later. Why? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Locked his keys in the truck. He struggles in vain to unlock the door using a wire coat hanger, and when Davis the police officer drives up he asks for his advice. "First thing you shoukd know is your passenger side window is open." Hank opens the passenger door, climbs in and reaches across to unlock the driver side door, then gets out of the truck, walks around to the other side to get in. I guess just sliding over didn't occur to him...
While Brent is babysitting, the child keeps throwing things at him, and when Lacey stops by to see how they're doing the adults are forced to take refuge under a table. What is the child throwing? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Toy cars. "Why do they make these things out of metal?" Lacey asks whether Brent tried asking Tanner to stop throwing cars, and Brent replied, "Yes. He threw a truck."
At the cafe, Brent is pleased to discover that Lacey has put hot dogs back on the menu, and bites into it with obvious enjoyment. Lacey informs him it is a tofu dog, but he is not so easily fooled. What does he identify as the actual type of wiener in the hot dog? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Maple Leaf Top Dog. Lacey admits "They were on special."
Later in the bar the townspeople learn that Brent will be babysitting for Wanda's son. What is their response? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Taking bets on Brent's potential injuries. Bets are placed on such lovely outcomes as concussion, general ankle injury, and stitches. In another funny exchange during this scene, Lacey orders a glass of wine ("Not that bag, that's the ketchup. The other bag."). Wonder if it was good vintage?
Dentist appointment. Wanda refuses to see the local "sadistic" dentist ("His first name is Lance!") so she and Brent look for one in the phone book. Brent selects a dentist with a good, "solid" name that could sound like someone you'd want to help you work on your house ("Want to go for a beer later, Sammy?") but Wanda will have to go in to Sasaktoon for the appointment.
Brent volunteers to babysit Wanda's 6 year old son in an effort to impress Lacey. What is the child's name? | "Corner Gas" Part #2
|
Tanner. We never actually see Tanner, just occasional camera shots from his perspective and projectile toys from off-camera. It adds to the sense of danger and menace...
They are towns in Saskatchewan.. This information is given to us in the commentary for the episode "Tax Man".
just outside Rouleau, Saskatchewan. This knowledge is given to us in the commentary of "Ruby Reborn"
all of them (Canadian flags in front of register lessened., Davis always wears a t-shirt under uniform now, as opposed to none in the first episode shot., Brent drinks rye and water in most of the season as opposed to beer.). We find this information out in the commentary of "Tax Man", which was infact the first episode that was filmed. The flags in front of the register they felt were too distracting, Lorne thought he was showing too much chest, and also Brent just doesn't like beer, so he sticks to what he likes!
Vancouver. Most of them are indeed from Vancouver. There are only 3 people from Saskatchewan including Brent Butt and Eric Peterson. We are told this in the "Ruby Reborn" episode commentary.
Yes!. This is infact some of Brent's own material. We find this out in the commentary from this episode.
Colin Mochrie. Yes, it is Colin Mochrie, most well known from tv's "Whose Line is it Anyway?".
In "Face Off", what does Emma say she gets if she forgets her seat cushions for the cold seats at the arena? | First Season - "Corner Gas"
|
the frosty piles. Yes, yes. The frosty piles. One of my favourite lines of the season.
Nope, they don't.. Yea, that's right. They get the opportunity a couple of times, but it never happens, first they are interrupted by a farmer and second Brent just doesn't pick up on Lacey's 'signs'. In another episode, specifically "All My Ex's Live in Toronto" Lacey kisses Hank, but not of free will.
In "Cousin Carl", who is the woman at the beginning and the end complaining about the movies she has rented? | First Season - "Corner Gas"
|
Mrs. Jensen, Fitzy, the mayors' Grandma. Fitzy's grandma is the one who's complaining and we know that she is Fitzy's grandmother because of the "Worlds Biggest Thing" episode.
Oscar's friend, Russell's belt. Only Oscar would be low enough to try to steal a dead mans belt!
The Dog River River-Dogs. The Dog River River-Dogs are the horribly pitiful Dog River team who, with the help of new coach Lacey, tie a game against their biggest competition, for once.
In "Hook, Line and Sinker", what is the phrase that Wanda comes up with when she switches the letters around in the slogan Brent puts on the Ruby/Corner Gas sign? | First Season - "Corner Gas"
|
both of these. Yup! That certainly is an interesting talent and one of the reasons why Wanda's my favourite.
barbie phones/little girl phones. This prompts both men to go back to the huge cell phones that were being sold when the technology first came out.
the heeby-jo-jeebies. He says this as they're walking into the talent show. It always struck me as weird because people usually refer to having the heeby-jeebies.
Peter Parker, Jean-Luc Picard and Marge Simpson. Those are in fact the three and then Brent makes the comment that Oscar is still trying to track down Arthur Fonzerelli.
Davis. Davis is the only one to go. Wanda runs her own pilates class, which she calls mat class, Karen isn't interested, and Brent doesn't exactly understand what it is and is really not interested.
