While it's technically possible in theory, it hasn't been recorded as happening in any pro tournaments and therefore the professionals don't generally attempt it.

Whilst it is true that professionals seldom attempt the shot it is certainly possible to pot a red off the break and this has been done countless times , if only by amateurs. Simply by the law of averages , a forceful shot rebounding from the bottom cushion so as to smash the pack will , on occasion result in a fluked pot of a red.

A red has been sunk off the break in a televised professional match. Here's one example:

I've watched Neil Robertson sink a red off the break, but I can't find a video of it.

Neil Robertson smashed the reds off a break, vs. Ken Doherty in the Welsh Open, and sunk a red.
