Clingmans Dome near the Tennessee/North Carolina border is the highest point on the Appalachian Trail at 6,643 ft (2,025 m).

The lowest point on the Appalachian Trail is in the Bear Mountain Zoo within Bear Mountain State Park in New York at an elevation of just 124 ft (38 m).
