Where is the nave of a cathedral and why is it called a nave?

The central part of a church is known as the nave. It's where you'll find the majority of worshippers, but is separate from areas for choir and clergy.

"Nave" is derived from "navis" meaning "ship" in Latin. Connections suggested for this term include the "Ark of Noah", "Ship of Saint Peter" and even the keel shape of a church's structure.
