Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919).

Carnegie was born in Scotland. His family moved to the US in 1848. He later became involved in the expansion of America's steel industries. Over the last 18 years of his life, Carnegie the philanthropist gave away some $350 million ($6.5 billion in 2023 terms).
Carnegie's first job in 1848 was as a bobbin boy, changing spools of thread in a cotton mill 12 hours a day, 6 days a week in a Pittsburgh cotton factory. His starting wage was $1.20 per week ($41 by 2023 inflation).
