Japan does not have an officially named national flower, therefore the answer may depend on the person you ask, but it will be either the cherry blossom or the chrysanthemum. They are both used as symbols of Japan, and perhaps the answer may be that they are both national flowers of Japan.

The chrysanthemum is an ancient symbol of Japan associated for centuries with the royal family and nowadays still used by the government for official purposes such as passports or stamps etc.

The cherry blossom is often cited as the unofficial (de facto) national flower of Japan, it is a sign of spring and renewal and strength, and a national symbol that persists throughout old folklore as well as in modern culture.
