Kobe Bryant has had both the number 8 and the number 24 retired for the Los Angeles Lakers. After eight years with the number 8 Kobe changed to 24 because he said he had experienced growth in his career and life outside of basketball.
When late Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Fame shooting guard Kobe Bryant changed his jersey number from eight to 24 during the 2006-07 season, he explained it at the time as "growth" from his prior digits.
