The singular of pence is penny, both before and after the revaluation. Various compounds like halfpenny and threepenny also used the term. The term penny has been on the coins all along, e.g. link https://www.baldwin.co.uk/product/victoria-1837-1901-1881heaton-mint-penny/, link https://www.gbclassiccoins.co.uk/shop/pennies/1971-decimal-1-new-pence-4-x-50-sealed-mint-rolls-200-coins-bu/.
