The first public performance featuring an electric guitar took place on 31 October 1932, when bandleader Gage Brewer played an early prototype of the Rickenbacker Electro A-22, which would later become known as the "Frying Pan". The instrument was made of cast aluminium and equipped with one of the first magnetic pickups.
