Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary - he was the first admitted prisoner and also the first prisoner to pass away there (tuberculosis).

In 1903, John Grindstone was the first person admitted to the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.He holds the distinction of being assigned inmate Prisoner No. 1 at the newly constructed federal prison in Kansas. He also became the first inmate to pass away there, succumbing to tuberculosis.
