What happened to Spicer Lovejoy in the movie 'Titanic'?

He fell in the chasm created when the "Titanic" split in two. At least that was Hollywood's way of getting rid of him. The scriptwriters were not just imaginative in his disposal. I wonder who thought of a name as nauseating as Spicer Lovejoy?

Spicer Lovejoy was beaten up in a deleted scene by Jack Dawson. They show Lovejoy in the movie in the middle of the ship and he dies when the ship splits in two and he goes into the hole.
