Color Study, Squares with Concentric Circles
By Wassily Kandinsky
Author Award for March 2024
Wassily Kandinsky believed that color was the soul of his art, and his other compositions go a long way toward utilizing color in complex, intricate ways. So perhaps it is a little bit ironic that his most famous artwork is a more simplistic color study with a mosaic of circles.
"Color Study: Squares with Concentric Circles" is by no means an elementary effort; in fact, the layout of Kandinsky's circles and their bright, vibrant colors are believed to be a precursor to the serial imagery technique popularized by Warhol (think Marilyn Monroe and Campbell's soup cans).
