I also love the Mississippi, partly because of the changing geography as it moves south, but also because of its twists and turns and the incredible variations in its width. My vote for favorite, though, because of its history and amazing beauty is the Danube. Reply #2. Jul 20 12, 4:14 AM |

Gotta be the mighty Fitzroy ! You can be standing in a dry river bed.. and hear a roar, get the hell out of there and watch this awesome river come back to life..spent a few great days camped alongside the de Grey also.. another great river in this great state of Western Australia. My favorite river is the Kings. I grew up by it and every summer spent many hours swimming and swinging on the rope we had tied to a big oak tree with brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends. Reply #4. Jul 20 12, 7:37 AM |

I did a lot of fishing in the Potomac River but nothing compares to catching gators on the Mississippi in Louisiana (I was the frightened one in the boat and I lived with gators in Florida). Reply #5. Jul 20 12, 8:20 AM |

I loved canoeing on the Wapsipinicon in Iowa. Nothing like a slow river in flat farm country with trees all around. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wapsipinicon_River The Pegnitz and Rednitz rivers in Germany. Nice walks along these two rivers in a quite a few places. The Regnitz is also a calming flow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegnitz_(river) Reply #11. Jul 25 12, 6:13 AM |

I'm surprised not to be the first one to nominate the Athabasca River. It begins in the Rockies as a beautiful mountain stream, and runs clear across the province of Alberta, a length of well over a thousand kilometres, to end as a very large, muddy river in the remarkable Peace-Athabasca (freshwater) Delta. I've been to Alberta, but didn't know about that river. Oh well, another must see place for the future! Reply #15. Aug 05 12, 2:17 PM |
