War and Peace. Although when I was 12, I read the Bible, and that seemed longer. I never checked. Reply #225. Jul 11 09, 9:59 PM |

I read The Talisman when I was 12, about a hundred years ago, and my English teacher said I deserved a medal for stamina. Then Crime and Punishment, Gone with the Wind, and the Lord of the Rings books. All quite big, I seem to remember, but I have no idea how they compare. Perhaps that's why my attention span and patience have shrunk - I used them up when I was in my teens. They were all long books, but the Scott did seem to go on and on (and on) more than most. Shogun by James Clavell, The Harry Potter books and Gone with the Wind were the longest books I've completed. I've tried Crime and Punishment and Grapes of Wrath, but those were just too boring. Reply #229. Jul 26 09, 9:54 AM |

Anna Karenina. I originally thought it was only 700 pages, only to realise the book was divided into two parts with 700 pages each. Reply #237. Aug 14 09, 2:59 AM |
