If you mean books that you just can't put down then I would have to say any of the three books by Stieg Larson - they are each about 600 pages and I just kept turning page after page. Such a pity there is only ever going to be three of them :( Reply #266. Feb 21 10, 10:11 PM |

There's an excellent challenge that goes on each year for readers. It's called the "15,000 pages challenge" How many books will it take you to reach such a number? Reply #269. May 05 10, 5:59 PM |

I think Stephen King's "IT" although I'm not sure of the number of pages - it's either that of Harry Potter 7, but I'm sure IT is longer. :) Enjoyed both immensely Reply #271. May 28 10, 12:29 PM |

A (hopefully) unabridged translation of The Count of Monte Cristo--over 1200 pages. Great read, something for everyone. Reply #272. May 28 10, 3:09 PM |

The Oxford English Dictionary. I kept it in my bathroom for over two years, and would read it whenever I went in. If your planning on reading it I think that's the best way. Reply #273. May 29 10, 11:18 AM |

Longest individual book was Spenser's The Faerie Queene at 1055 pages and toughest was Joyce's Ulysses at 732 pages. A couple of years ago though I read all 15 of Dickens novels, his Christmas Books, his two travel books, his Sketches by Boz and a 1083-page Dickens biography by Peter Ackroyd - all back-to-back, between a week to three weeks for each novel. That's 12,456 pages. Reply #277. Jul 04 10, 9:00 AM |

The longest book for me would have to be Great Expectations by Dickens. I had to read it for school and felt like my whole life was emirsd in it. Reply #278. Aug 08 10, 8:03 PM |

Pilgrim's Progress when I was at school. They made me write out extracts for punishment for misbehaviour, so over the years, I think I wrote the whole boring old thing out about three times. Reply #279. Aug 08 10, 11:14 PM |

'War and Peace' and 'Les Miserables' were definitely long. I don't know which is the longest. I recommend them both, they are worth the effort! I can also think of Chateaubriand's Mémoires d'Outre-tombe and Rousseau's La Nouvelle Héloise. They were interesting, although I had to struggle to read them until the end. (I went through a phase when I was 18 when I mostly read the classics, that's when I read all these books.) Reply #280. Oct 28 10, 9:18 AM |
