I actually read "A Christmas Carol" all the way through. What's the longest book you have read all the way through?

Ditto, War and Peace definitely springs to mind. I read it when I was a teenager and really enjoyed it despite length. I think as long as the book is well written you stay absorbed no matter how long it is.

The longest book I ever read was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott when I was 12. One of these days I'm going to attempt to read Gone with the Wind. I loved the movie.

I'm not sure about actual length, but Tolstoy's War & Peace is up there, as are Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. James Joyce's Ulysses was not really so long as it seemed. I thought I would never get to the end!

The Lord of the Rings, although that is three separate books so it doesn't really count.

Other than that, I think it's "Darksong". The second book in a series by Isobelle Carmody. Well worth the read. I don't know when the third and final book is coming out, but I'm anticipating it!

Pikekinggirl, you'll whiz through The Stand. It's long but so well written it'll grab you from the start. I couldn't put it down. I too have read the Diana Gabaldon series, varying in page length anywhere from 800 to 1100 pages, but her last one is a real slog. Three times I've picked it up but I can't seem to get past page 29 before losing interest. I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet someday. And Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged is so huge I now use it as a bookend!

Harry Potter. Only around 700 pages but you know. Haven't had the oppotunity to read any thick books really.

If I had to guess (which I am doing) - it would be Stephen King's unabridged version of The Stand. I just checked - it's 1153 pages.

The Bible. Also "Forever Amber" -- over 900 pages, but very good.

"Moby D%*k" not for page length, but in terms of suffering. And they won't let me post the name of the book!

Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset, it was over a thousand pages. Often published as a 3-volume set.

Probably "War and Peace" by Tolstoy which had nearly 1500 pages and took nearly fourteen hours to read.

"To Green Angel Tower" by Tad Williams. 1066 pages in hardcover format. I notice that the publishers now split it into two books.

The worst thing (or best, since I love the stories), is that it was book three in a trilogy, the first book was 638 pages(HC), and the second was 569(HC). I had been hoping that the last would be around the same size.
