"Les Miserables", "Anatomy of Melancholy" and The Bible. I really did not like "War and Peace", so I didn't bother finishing it Reply #83. Dec 20 06, 6:51 PM |

I read all seven volumes of Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past" and don't remember a word of it. Reply #87. Dec 30 06, 11:08 PM |

Probably M.M. Kaye's 'The Far Pavilions'. Very thick, although not at all a scholarly read. Reply #88. Dec 31 06, 2:37 AM |

I've read the Bible, front to back, about 4 times. Each time I got a little more out of it. Reply #93. Feb 21 07, 1:40 AM |

The Bible - except that it's not just one book, but a collection of books - so I'm going to say Edward Rutherfurd's 'Sarum'. Reply #96. Mar 15 07, 9:23 AM |

I don't know which one was longer, but I've read "Gone With The Wind" and "The Stand". Both were worth every minute! Reply #97. Mar 15 07, 11:24 AM |

I cant remember how many pages these all have, (they were all long) so I will give a list off the top of my head. I have read: *War and Peace *The Tanakh (Torah, Nevi'im, Kethuvim) *The King James Bible *The Living Bible *The Catholic Bible *The Life and Works of Josephus *Asimov's Guide to the Bible *Shakespeare (which included all his plays & biography) *The Holy Scriptures (Masoretic Text) *Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths & Secrets (just a few of the long reads that I recall) ~Joanie~ Reply #98. Went through a phase of reading the longest books I could get my hands on. Some Notables; "The King James Bible", (Tom Clancy) "Red Storm Rising","Executive Orders" and "Debt of Honor" (paperback), (Stephen king) "The Stand" (paperback),(David McCullough) "Truman" (hardcover), [ These were all unabridged Penuin Classic Paperbacks... (Leo Tolstoy) "Anna Karenina" and "War and Peace" [Think I would forget this one?], (Dumas) "The Count of Monte Cristo", (Dostoyevsky) "The Brothers Karamazov". As printed all were 900+ pages not including Notes and Introductions which of course I read as well. Reply #99. Mar 15 07, 3:32 PM |

Looking through posts and wanted to say this;(Hugo) Les Miserables and Lord of the Rings Tril. is on next years list, and nearly forgot (Clancy) Bear and the Dragon. Still I would do not count Series/ Trilogy books or collections and/or "Compleat Works of..." for the purpose of this reply. Doing so is like putting all of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series together. In wich case my list also includes Harry Potter 1-6 along with Compleat works of Shakespear and Edger Allen Poe to name a few. As for Page Length, it's tricky. Translations, book size and style (paper or hardback) can alter page count drasticly. Reply #100. Mar 15 07, 3:57 PM |
