I'm finding it a very interesting book though and a worthwhile read. I'm quite gripped by it where I am at the moment. Reply #1281. May 02 17, 3:05 AM |

I just finished reading "Dark Entry," the first in a series of mystery novels by J.M. Trow with Christopher Marlowe as the protagonist. It was only so-so. I am now starting a book called "In the Legion of the Vanguard," an autobiography of a soldier who served in the Free State Army during the Irish Civil War. Reply #1283. May 02 17, 12:50 PM |

I've just bought the "Regeneration Trilogy" by Pat Barker in one volume, in a charity store, to take away for a holiday read. The guy at the till asked me if I'd read it before. I said "no" and he told me what a good book it was. I had heard about it before and heard it was good. I was looking for Sebastian Faulkes' books, something like "Birdsong" which is set in WW2 I believe. They didn't have that. Pat Barker's trilogy is set in WW1 I understand. Reply #1285. I'm re-reading The Deed of Paksenarrion", a military fantasy trilogy about a sheepfarming girl who becomes a mercenary, and then a paladin. It's really fantastic--check it out if you like fantasy. Reply #1286. May 14 17, 10:55 AM |

Mix - think that Birdsong is WW1. Charlotte Grey by same author is WW2. Reply #1287. May 14 17, 12:22 PM |

Caseena's description of the "Deed of Peskarrion" reminded me of the story of St Joan. Reply #1289. May 20 17, 3:12 AM |

Sorry, "Paksenarrion". I wish, when posting, we could still see the comments our posts relate to. Reply #1290. May 20 17, 3:13 AM |

I'm also re-reading Douglas Adams's "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe". It has a character called "Hotblack Desiato", a rock musician, which makes me laugh as it's the name of a London estate agent (realtor). The estate agent existed before the book, so that must have been Adams's inspiration for the name of his character. Reply #1291. May 21 17, 2:08 AM |

I'm reading 'The Last Hero' by Terry Pratchett. I'm slowly making my way through the Discworld books. But at the same time, I'm waiting as long as I can before I read the next in the series. I don't want them to end :( Reply #1292. Jun 15 17, 6:42 PM |
