Anybody have any movies about musicians or bands that they really like? Or even just movies about music itself? I hated "The Doors" but I'm wondering how long it'll be before a movie is made about the Stones. Hopefully it won't be made by Oliver Stone. Maybe when they're dead.
Did anyone see the movie about a hypothetical reunion between Lennon and McCartney called "Two of Us"? It was much better than I expected, especially the ending. Very well done.

Lot's of great rock movies. Here's a few memorable ones that come to mind. The Harder They Come-A great reggae doco starring Jimmy Cliff. A Hard Day's Night-The Fab Four in full Beatle mania.Directed by Richard Lester with interesting Special Effects(Ground-breaking for the time) Sympathy For The Devil-Jen Luc-Godard's doco on the recording of the iconic Stones song. The Last Waltz-The Band's farewell concert with special guests like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. Great direction from Martin Scorcese. Reply #1. Oct 11 12, 4:11 AM |

The Last Waltz was good but I couldn't make any sense out of Sympathy For the Devil....very weird. The studio scenes were cool but the junkyard and bookstore scenes were odd to say the least. Some political statement that neither I, nor Keith Richards could understand. In his book, Richards wrote that he just figured Godard had taken something he shouldn't have. Two somewhat interesting facts about that movie: It was originally called One Plus One and during the filming at the studio the lights caught the ceiling and roof of the building on fire with the band and crew inside. I liked the movie Ray. Jamie Foxx won the Oscar for playing Ray Charles. Also, I really liked Immortal Beloved. It was a fictionalized story about Ludwig van Beethoven. Reply #5. Oct 11 12, 8:10 PM |

3 that come to mind are Heavy Metal, Ladies & Gentlemen: The Fabulous Stains with a young Diane Lane & Laura Dern. Also Streets Of Fire, hmmm Diane Lane was in that too, anybody sense a pattern here? My favorite rock & roll fable movie has got to be Eddie & The Cruisers, great soundtrack by John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown band plus a fantastic performance by Michael Pare. Reply #8. What can I say? I'm a child of the 80s, loved the music & the movies. BTW did you know that Michael "Tunes" Antunes was the only member of the Beaver Brown Band to appear in the movie? He played Wendell Newton the sax player who died in the movie. I'll have to add Another State of Mind a documentary following the 1982 tour of Social Distortion & Youth Brigade, two hardcore bands touring the country on beat up old school bus. Also meeting up with Minor Threat along the way. If you're fan of early hardcore or even if you're not it's well worth a look at the stuggles of bands that don't have big media & big money backing them. It's real & it's raw. Reply #10. It's fictional, but the movie "Once" is incredible and basically a music movie. As for nonfiction, I thought the U2 documentary was pretty good, called "From the Sky Down". I also enjoyed "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne". Reply #14. Oct 18 12, 2:56 AM |

Watched the Stones doco 'Crossfire Hurricane' on telly last night. Very good. I liked the way that the faces of the Stones weren't shown when they were answering questions; it felt to me as if the viewer was being allowed into their minds and memories while they privately reflected on their past.
