I can't believe that I haven't contributed yo this thread until now! I read so many different genres that I have some difficulty coming up with a top five, so I'm doing three lists - classics (pre-20th century) and contemporary (20th and 21st century) and poets Classics: Jane Austen Geoffrey Chaucer Charles Dickens William Shakespeare Oscar Wilde Contemporary: Kate Charles P.D. James C.S. Lewis Ruth Rendell Joanna Trollope Poets: Rupert Brooke Robert Browning George Herbert A.E. Houseman Dylan Thomas Reply #103. May 22 10, 1:14 AM |

Aargh! I left John Keats off my poets' list. I also read theology, and my favourite authors in this genre are Marcus Borg, James Carroll, John Dominic Crossan, Manuel de la Torres, and Bart Ehrman, St.Teresa of Avila. And there are the beloved authors from my childhood, too - L.M. Montgomery, Geoffrey Trease, Arthur Ransome, Robert Louis Stevenson....whose books I read and re-read, even as an adult of advanced years. Dang, I either read too much or I enjoy too many authors! It is *too* cheating, Creedy! The Bronte sisters were *not* co-authors! I'll let it go this time, though, since you just mentioned the metaphysical poets in another thread. :) Reply #112. Aug 08 10, 11:47 PM |

I do also enjoy the classics. My favorite author to read there is definitely Shakespeare. His prose is legendary. Reply #116. Sep 09 10, 8:25 AM |
