My favorite is by Bill Paxton's character in Aliens. After Ripley tells him that the young girl Newt has managed to stay alive quite some time on her own, he replies with "Why don't you put HER in charge?" That line makes me crack up every time I think about it. Reply #104. Apr 08 17, 6:41 PM |

From The Outlaw Josey Wales: Carpetbagger: "Do you really think you can shoot all those men down before they shoot you? Really, Mr. Wales. In this country we have something called JUSTICE!" Josey: Well, Mr. Carpetbagger......around these parts.....we've got what we call a Missouri boat ride..." (Boom! Ferry line severed. Captain Redlegs and crew drift off on a fun little Missouri boat ride.) Later in the film.... Josey: "You a bounty hunter?" Bounty hunter: "Man gotta do somethin' for a livin' these days." Josey: "Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy." Reply #106. May 17 17, 2:44 AM |

From "Tombstone"- McMasters speaking about Wyatt Earp: "where is he?" Doc: "Down by the creek walkin on water" McMasters: "If they were my brothers, I'd want revenge too" Doc: " Oh, make no mistake about it. It's not revenge he's after. It's a reckoning" Reply #109. Dec 08 17, 8:44 AM |

A movie I really like is "Songcatcher." It is about a professor, Dr. Lily Penleric, collecting folk songs in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina in 1912. As a pure-blooded Hillbilly myself, I especially enjoyed this exchange between her and Tom Bledsoe, one of the local people. Lily: "Well, the common view is that there is no culture here, and that the people are dirty, ignorant, and savage." Tom: "You forgot illiterate and inbred." Reply #110. Jan 05 18, 11:59 AM |

terraorca. Oh yes. I loved that refrain. Another one I now recall from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance team was when they were working for the Bolivian (tin mining?) company guarding the payroll. Sundance was looking warily about him on his first trip looking nervous and the man they were working for, a tobacco chewing hard boiled character, spit and said "Morons!". " I got morons on my team! We ain't gonna get attacked going UP the mountain. We ain't got no money going UP the mountain. It's when we're going DOWN the mountain. That's when we got the money. That's when you gotta worry" Or words similar. I'm relying on memory here. Also in "Little Big Man" the main character Jack Crabb keeps running across this quack medicine man, and each time he meets him the man has lost more body parts. He says something like "Lord how they're whittlin' you away". Reply #113. Jan 20 18, 3:14 PM |

In "The Black Shield of Falworth" a good laugh throughout, though it's not intended to be quite as funny as it is. Tony Curtis, playing a trainee Knight with a Bronx accent says something to an opponent like "I come to challenge thee as thou ist an unknightly knight" (again from memory) and also "yonder is the castle of my fodder" (father). It's an engaging story suitable for family viewing. Reply #114. Jan 20 18, 3:25 PM |
