From Train Spotting during a trip to the countryside to do some walking in the hills. Excuse the language (which I've censored) but Ewan McGregor's speech I find both profound in its own way and funny. Tommy (leading on) "What are you waiting for" Tommy's friend "This isn't natural man" Tommy. It's the great outdoors. Doesn't it make you proud to be Scottish?" Ewan McGregor's character "It's s**te being Scottish. We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the f***king Earth. The most wretched miserable servile pathetic trash that was ever sha**ed to civilisation. Some people hate the English. I don't. They're just w***kers. We on the other hand are colonised by w***kers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonised by. We are ruled by effete a***holes. It's a sh*te state of affairs to be in Tommy, and all the fresh air in the world won't make any f***king difference." Reply #123. Mar 11 18, 9:32 AM |

Further to my quote at #113 when Butch Cassidy and Sundance are guarding the (mining company's?) payroll. Coming down the mountain bandits ambush them and the boss is shot dead. The menacing looking bandits ask them to hand over the payroll. Butch says something like "I'd like to oblige, but the thing is it's not our money". "No Senor" says the bandit with an evil grin. "It's our money" At the end of the film when Butch and Sundance are holed up and besieged, you see what looks like most of the Bolivian army lining up with rifles in wait for them hidden behind a high wall. Butch says to Sundance "Did you see LaFors out there (the fiendish bounty hunter who has been following them) "No" says Sundance." I didn't see him". "Phew" says Butch visibly relaxing. "For a minute I thought we were in trouble". Reply #124. Mar 11 18, 9:51 AM |

I'm just watching an old film called "Green for Danger" with Alastair Sim as a Scotland Yard detective investigating some murders, and Trevor Howard. I only caught it part way through but there are some great lines. After one murder Sim says. "There's one good thing. The suspects are now reduced to 4" and he counts the 4 people in the room. How is that good says one? Sim says "It's good for me. My ideal is a 40 hour week". In another scene a doctor (one of the suspects) says to Sim that all he's succeeding in doing is going round in circles to which Sim replies "One day I must try my hand at removing an appendix".
